In what will be an extraordinary cap off to a most extraordinary breakout moment, Chappell Roan’s long-gestating 2023 debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is currently expected to reach Number 1 in the UK for the first time this week.
Originally released in October last year, the last few months have seen Chappell’s profile explode, thanks to the success of one-off single Good Luck, Babe!, and a support slot on Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS tour. Good Luck, Babe! currently sits at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess vaults up three places midweek thanks to the release of a vinyl variant. Two singles from the LP have already charted in the UK Top 40; HOT TO GO! (Number 19 peak) and Red Wine Supernova (Number 38 peak).
As her single Guess battles to become the UK’s Number 1 single this week, Charli xcx’s party magnum opus BRAT could lift back up to its previous Number 2 peak.
Former White Stripes frontman Jack White’s latest record No Name could become his sixth solo Top 10 album (6).
Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s latest collaborative record VULTURES 2 also aims for a Top 10 debut after its surprise drop, currently predicted to enter at Number 9.
Sam Smith’s emotional 2014 debut album In The Lonely Hour could re-enter the UK Top 40 for the first time in three years (22), thanks to the release of a special 10th anniversary edition. Upon its original release, In The Lonely Hour peaked at Number 1 for eight non-consecutive weeks.
Finally, Indie-rock outfit 86TVs – comprised of former The Maccabees members Hugo and Felix White, their brother Will and Stereophonics drummer Jamie Morrison – could see their self-titled debut album enter the Official Albums Chart at Number 27. As members of The Maccabees, Hugo and Felix White previously scored four UK Top 40 albums including a Number 1 with 2015’s Marks to Prove It.
