Carly Rae Jepsen, Canadian Idol contestant and last week’s surprise chart topper, this week accelerates sales to break the 100,000 copies barrier and land the Official Singles Chart Number 1 for a second week running.

Despite ending last week with an impressive opening sale of 107,000 units and becoming the second fastest-selling single of the year to date behind DJ Fresh FT Rita Ora’s Hot Right Now, the pop starlet has gathered even more momentum in her second week on chart, Call Me Maybe has cleared over 110,000 copies this week alone.  Not too shoddy for a debut performance at all!

Carly’s monster sales tally also puts her a league ahead of fellow Canadian Justin Bieber who entered the ring this week with new single Boyfriend (Number 2), and on Wednesday’s Official Chart Update it looked like it would be a closely fought pop battle through to the weekend.  Carly Rae Jepsen outsells Justin Bieber two to one this week.

Call Me Maybe became an internet phenomenon last month when Justin Bieber himself, Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale and Big Time Rush recorded their own spoof video and uploaded it to YouTube. It was also Justin Bieber who first tweeted his appreciation of Carly Rae Jepsen. Speaking about Bieber’s support, Carly recently commented 'They say it's called paying it forward since Usher signed Bieber and then he signed me, so I'm gonna hope that I have the opportunity. That'd be pretty rad.”

Gotye FT Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know is this week’s Number 3, with Usher’s Climax at 4 and Nicki Minaj’s Starships at 5.

New entries

The week’s highest new entry came courtesy of Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend (Number 2), the first track taken from Bieber’s forthcoming third studio album Believe, Boyfriend is a slight departure from his usual sound.  Written and produced by Mike Posner and Mason Levy, the track has already been compared to the likes of Justin Timberlake.

R’n’B star Usher is back with new single Climax (Number 4), while American indie pop band Fun. have rocketed through the chart 36-7 since midweek with the US smash hit track We Are Young FT Janelle Monae.  The first single taken from the band’s second studio album, there is no doubt we will be seeing much more from this grandiose alternative track next week.

Sway enters at Number 8 this weekend with new track Level Up.  Meanwhile Breathe Carolina rest just outside the Top 20 with Blackout (21), Jessie J FT David Guetta (26) and John Legend’s Ordinary People (27).  The weeks’ new entries are completed by Alex Clare’s Too Close (37).
This week’s highest climber is Train’s Drops Of Jupiter, climbing 15 places to land inside the Top 40 at Number 35.
