Can Gotye withstand the force of Alexandra Burke’s Elephant?

Alexandra Burke’s new single Elephant is set to take on Gotye’s long-running Number 1 this weekend.  Elephant, produced by global DJ and Subliminal Records label owner Erick Morillo, is currently hovering at Number 2 today on the Official Singles Chart Update. But with just 7,000 copies separating the two, all eyes will be on the X Factor 2008 winner to see if she can accelerate enough to knock the reigning champion from the top spot.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the officialcharts.com announced last week that Alexandra’s 2008 cover of Hallelujah is the second biggest selling single of the 21st Century by a female artist, behind Adele’s Someone Like You.  See full list here.

Jason Mraz enters the Official Chart Update at Number 23 with new track I Won’t Give Up taken from forthcoming album Love Is A Four Letter Word, while Noel Gallagher is still flying high on the back of his triumphant BRITs performance last month, with new single Dream On on target to enter the Top 40 at Number 28 this weekend. 

Swedish House Mafia have recently teamed up with Absolut Vodka to pen a track for the alcohol brand’s advertising campaign in the US.  The song entitled Greyhound is out of the traps and taking up a midweek position of Number 40.
