Calvin Harris leads incredibly close albums race
The Scottish DJ’s fourth LP Motion is currently leading the race on today’s Official Chart Update, just a little over 1,000 copies ahead of Ed Sheeran’s X at 2.
Calvin’s album includes the Official Singles Chart Number 1s Under Control, Summer and Blame. His previous collection 18 Months – which re-enters at Number 22 today - set a chart record after becoming the first to feature nine Top 10 singles.
Meanwhile, last week’s Number 1 album 1989 by Taylor Swift slips to 3, and Dutch violinist Andre Rieu is new at Number 4 with Love In Venice.
Completing the Top 5 is a new entry from Damien Rice. The singer/songwriter’s new album, My Faded Favourite Fantasy, marks his first release in eight years after 2006’s Platinum-selling 9.
New entries and high climbers
Following his performance on last week’s X Factor results show, John Legend’s Love In The Future vaults from 89 to Number 6. The collection, which originally peaked at Number 2, has been re-released with new tracks that include production from Pharrell Williams and Kanye West.
Scottish alt-rockers Simple Minds debut at Number 9 with their 16th album Big Music, while Bob Dylan & The Band’s The Basement Tapes lands at 12.
The Who enter at Number 16 with their compilation anniversary album The Who Hits 50!, Neil Young is new at 19 with Storytone, and London rapper Fuse ODG starts at 21 with his debut album Tina. The record includes four Top 10 hits: Antenna, Million Pound Girl, Dangerous Love and Tina.
Elsewhere, Paul McCartney’s former band Wings land at 31 and 37 respectively with reissues of their albums Venus And Mars and The Speed Of Sound, and John Rutter enters at 39 with The John Rutter Songbook.
