We love a sleeper hit on the Official Singles Chart – and Calum Scott's Dancing On My Own is the perfect candidate.

First performing the track in his Britain's Got Talent audition in late 2014, Calum received Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer that put him straight through to semifinals – and the rest is history.

Finishing up in 6th place in the May 2015 final, Calum went on to independently release the Robyn cover he'd grown to love. As the song began to gain fans and entered the lower reaches of the Official Singles Chart, Calum was "happy that it was just outside the Top 40", but that soon changed when he signed a deal with Virgin EMI and Capitol Records.

Following the release of a new music video, the song has hot a new peaof Number 27, but if this week's Official Singles Chart Update is any indication, the track could be heading for the Top 10. when the final chart is announced this Friday.

But what about the woman who made it all happen? The question on many people's lips is whether Calum has managed to meet Dancing On My Own's original singer, Swedish popstar Robyn.

"I would love to say I have but I haven’t," Calum told OfficialCharts.com. "I really want to be able to speak with her, whether that be on a call or an email and just thank her. Without that song, if she hadn’t have written that song, I might not be in the position that I am today."

Even social media hasn't managed to hook up the tuneful pair. I’ve tried tweeting her too – it would be amazing to get that chance to thank her," said Calum. "If you tweet her, watch her reply to you guys instead!"

With a current midweek position of 14 and a steady performance on the singles chart spanning nine weeks, there is a very good chance that Calum's version of Dancing On My Own could outpeak Robyn's original, which hit Number 8 in 2010. How does Calum feel about that?

"To take somebody else’s song and to put my interpretation on it and for it to chart higher, that would be a massive privilege," said Calum. "I would need her to know how I feel about it though. I wouldn’t want her to think ‘oh, he’s done this, this and this with it’.

"I remember when I laid the first verse and the chorus down in the studio, my mum and sister were crying over it. If it relates to me and translated to others that strongly, then hopefully she would understand why I wanted to cover it. This song literally changed my life... but sorry that it beat yours!"

Although Calum hasn't been able to speak with Robyn yet, we're sure she'll be happy with his rendition. Now for us to play matchmaker on Twitter...
