BRIT Award winner Tom Odell is set to storm this weekend’s Official Albums Chart with his debut album, Long Way Down.
It’s all change on today’s Official Album Chart Update as newcomer Tom Odell looks set to knock current chart king Kanye West off the top spot!
Odell, who won the Critics’ Choice Award at this year’s BRITs,is poised to go straight in at Number 1 on Sunday with his debut album, Long Way Down. At this mid-way stage, the album has nearly sold as much as the rest of this week’s Top 5 artist albums combined!
The 22-year-old singer/songwriter is the latest in a long line of UK acts who have been tipped for greatness at the BRITs; previous winners of the Critics’ Choice Award include such household names as Adele (2008), Florence And The Machine (2009), Ellie Goulding (2010), Jessie J (2011) and Emeli Sande (2012).
Mike Rosenberg, AKA Passenger, climbs three places to Number 2 on today’s Update with All The Little Lights. Rod Stewart’s Time (climbing one to Number 3), Kanye West’s Yeezus (down three to Number 4) and Michael Buble’s To Be Loved (up nine places to Number 5) complete today’s Top 5.
New Entries
In addition to Tom Odell’s Long Way Down (Number 1), there are three other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart Update.
Australian electro duo Empire Of The Sun are new in today at Number 14 with their second album, Ice On The Dune. If they can maintain momentum though to Sunday’s final whistle, it will beat the success of their debut album, Walking On A Dream, which peaked at Number 19 back in 2008. However, the group’s Nick Littlemore scored a Number 1 album in the UK last summer with his other band, Pnau, and Sir Elton John, with Good Morning To The Night.
Meanwhile, Swedish metallers Amon Amarth look set to make their UK Top 40 debut this weekend with their ninth studio album, Deceiver Of The Gods (37). And finally, New Zealand seven-piece Fat Freddy's Drop are at Number 39 today with Blackbird.
