Bee Gees star Robin Gibb loses battle with cancer
Robin Gibb passed away yesterday (Sunday, May 20) after losing his battle with cancer.
The Bee Gees star, who was diagnosed with liver cancer in November of last year which had reportedly spread to his bowels, passed away in London. He was 62.
In 2003, Robin's twin brother, Maurice, died from complications resulting from a bowel obstruction.
"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery,” said his family in an official statement. "The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
During their career, the Bee Gees sold over 200 million records and had over 30 Top 40 hits (including five Official Singles Chart Number 1s) and 19 Top 40 albums. You can see their full Official Chart history here.
Gibb was also a prolific songwriter and had penned over a thousand songs during his lifetime, including hits for Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers, Barbra Streisand and Dianna Ross.
Shortly before his death he completed work on The Titanic Requiem, a classical album to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic.
