BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Allstars leading the way to Number 1 with charity single Times Like These

Can the mega-collaboration take the Official Singles Chart top spot?

BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Allstars are currently leading the charge for Number 1 with Times Like These.

The cover of the Foo Fighters classic is performed by 23 of the biggest names in music and was released last Thursday (April 23). Impressively, it debuted at Number 5 last week after just a few hours of sales and streams.

Things are tight at the top however with The Weeknd expecting to close the gap before the week is out; the Canadian’s former Number 1 Blinding Lights trails behind by only 5,300 chart sales and is the stronger of the two tracks on streaming services. For Times Like These to hold on to the top spot, fans will need to continue their support by downloading and streaming the song throughout the week.

Proceeds of the song are going to BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief, to provide essential support to people across the UK who will be significantly impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

If the Live Lounge Allstars can maintain their lead, it will mark two different charity singles topping the chart in as many weeks.

Meanwhile, Last week’s record-breaking Number 1 from Captain Tom Moore and Michael Ball could see a second week in the Top 10, currently sitting at Number 3.

The 1975 could earn this week’s highest new entry with If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know), at Number 7 on today’s sales flash. KSI could appear in this week’s chart with Houdini ft. Swarmz & Tion Wayne (11) – his fourth Top 40 single if it stays on track.

Finally, after premiering the single on online multi-player video game Fortnite, Travis Scott and Kid Cudi could make a Top 20 debut with The Scotts (13).

The Official Chart First Look is based on preliminary sales and streaming data from the first 48 hours of this week’s chart race, the fuller picture will emerge as more data arrives throughout the week.

The final Official Chart Top 40 will be unveiled on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills this Friday from 4pm, with the full Official Singles Chart Top 100 published on OfficialCharts.com from 5.45pm.

The Scott's is pretty good in my opinion, although it is a little short. I'm always happy to see Travis charting highly anyway!

Go on, Times Like These. That song is a brilliant cover of the Foo Fighters. Meanwhile at #2 I hope Blinding Lights gets ACR’d ASAP. It’s overstayed it’s welcome and I’m sick of hearing a painful performance high up! Also, we need to push What’s Poppin in the Top 40 and get some Travis Scott in there after his Fortnite appearance (I hate Fortnite but love Travis).

Seriously, go on Travis. At first I was like “What was he thinking?” but then realised he could re-enter and I’ve wanted to share my Sicko Mode review with you guys!

I really hope goosebumps can get into the top 40, and it looks like it might! That's one of my favourite Travis songs of all time, and I've always thought it deserved to be bigger

Goosebumps was amazing! I thought it deserved better too. It’s a 10/10 in my books and hopefully it’ll have enough units to finally crack the Top 40.

If The 1975 get a Top 10 debut, nothing will make sense anymore, in the best way.

I predict Radio 1 will overplay Times Like These to get it to number 1, it's not that great of a song, but has good intentions, let's see how well it will do! If Blinding Lights indeed takes back Number 1, that will be amazing, first song to have four stints at number 1! ( I show bias for this song because I love synthwave songs). The Scotts is a great song and the concert on Fortnite was amazing! I wonder if Sicko Mode can re-enter the charts? Houdini is OK, better than Poppin and Wake Up Call for sure.

Also, 'If You're Too Shy [Let Me Know]' possibly debuting in the Top 10?! Given that song is among The 1975's best, that's amazing news too! :D

Among The 1975’s best... man, I can’t wait until May when Notes On A Conditional Form releases and you rave about it lol. ;)

Haha, yeah, this upcoming album from The 1975 is shaping up to be one of my favourite indie releases in a long time if there are more tracks like this one there.

It turns out that this new song was actually a huge fan favourite when they performed it on tour at the start of the year & for good reason. I can't wait to review this one on Friday, because it's also heading for the Top 10 in my next personal chart! :D

OMG! I never thought I’d see another instance where one charity single replaced another at #1 on the Official Chart, but I guess that just shows how important this situation is & how much it’ll be reflected upon in history.

As for this cover of ‘Times Like These’, yeah, I’m bringing it up to a 10/10! It shows that while we’re all in quarantine, the music industry can still come together thanks to the power of technology & deliver us something absolutely beautiful!

Not only that, but I like almost every artist who features on this! Some of them are up there among my all-time favourites, including: Dua Lipa, Hailee Steinfeld & Sigrid (the last two are so underrated, absolutely thrilled that they’re here!). :)

I feel like "Times Like These" is way further ahead already than whats being made out, just feels like with 43K sales on Friday after 12 hours, they would be at 60K or 70K sales at least.

Yeah, even 'You'll Never Walk Alone' sold 36k in its first 48 hours & ended the tracking week 82k chart sales.

It's possible that 'Times Like These' might even become the first song of 2020 to pass 100k in a single tracking week. If it was released a few hours later, it definitely would've got there! :O
