Ariana Grande's new album: Release date, sound and everything we know so far
Greedy for some new Ariana Grande music? Fear not – the singer is gearing up to release her fourth album in 2018.
Ariana’s got a tough act to follow; 2016’s Dangerous Woman was her first Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart and it included a strong run of hits – Dangerous Woman, Into You and Side To Side. But if what we know so far about her next collection is any indication, it could be her biggest yet. Here’s everything we know so far.
When will Ariana Grande’s new album be released?
Ariana's fourth album is called Sweetener and will be released on July 20, as announced by the lady herself in a recent interview on US TV. The singer also teased plans to do "something special" on the 20th of every month in the lead up to its release.
The star has also shared some song titles from the collection. As well as lead single No Tears Left To Cry, there's R.E.M, God Is A Woman, The Light Is Coming, and album opener Raindrops.
Ariana has been in the studio a lot over the past two years, revealing she was recording a little as a month after the release of Dangerous Woman. Last January she declared the album finished, though she later clarified by saying that she had recorded lots of songs “that I really, really like”.
She then told Billboard in September 2017 that after taking a break from recording following the tragic events that took place at her concert in Manchester Arena, she was now going to continue to create and "take my sweet ass time, so I’ll be rested and ready to go again as soon as possible.”
Ariana also shared a series of snaps in front of the mic on her Instagram stories in December, a selection of which you can see here.
Meanwhile, in a Q&A some months ago, Ariana revealed she’d like her fourth album to be ten tracks long compared to 15 on Dangerous Woman, saying she wanted to “make it count”.
Who is working on Ariana Grande’s new album?
Ariana has teamed up with Pharrell Williams for the first time for this record, with the producer telling the LA Times last November her new music was “pretty amazing. The things that she has to say on this album, it’s pretty next-level. Her album is amazing.”
R&B producers Hitmaka and A1 have also revealed they’ve been working with the singer. Their previous credits include Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown and Ty Dolla Sign.
Ariana has also teamed up with hit songwriter Savan Kotecha - who co-wrote No Tears Left To Cry - on much of the project.
What will Ariana Grande’s new album sound like?
In terms of sound, expect some big vocal moments. Ariana’s manager Scooter Braun told Variety at the end of last year: “She has such an extraordinary voice and it’s time for her to sing the songs that define her. Whitney, Mariah, Adele… when they sing, that’s their song. Ariana has big vocal moments; it’s time for her song."
