Ariana Grande extends her reign at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with thank u, next on to a fifth week, setting a new streaming record.

The track notched up a massive 14.9 million streams this week, 7.9 million of which were from its music video, released last week. It’s the highest number of plays in a week in UK chart history, overtaking Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, which racked up 14.2 million streams in a single week last year.

Grande’s fifth week at Number 1 gives her the longest-reigning chart-topper for a female artist since 2008, when Katy Perry managed a five-week stint with I Kissed A Girl.

Meanwhile, Ava Max climbs to Number 2 with Sweet But Psycho, up four positions from last week, and Halsey’s Without Me hits a new peak at Number 3.

This week’s highest new entry goes to X Factor champion Dalton Harris, whose winner’s single The Power Of Love ft. James Arthur debuts at Number 4.

New entries and high climbers

James Arthur has a second Top 10 entry as Rewrite The Stars with Anne-Marie leaps nine spots to 8, 6ix9ine rockets 29 places to Number 9 with Kika ft. Tory Lanez, and Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus debut at 10 with Nothing Breaks Like A Heart.

US rapper Meek Mill scores his first UK Top 40 single with Going Bad ft. Drake at 17, 6ix9ine features a second time with Mama ft. Nicki Minaj and Kanye West at 29, and Tom Walker returns to the Top 40 following his X Factor final performance with Leave A Light On at 31.

Finally, eight Christmas favourites feature on the chart this week, led by Mariah Carey, who zooms 28 places to Number 6 with All I Want For Christmas Is You. The others are: Wham’s Last Christmas (14), The Pogues’ and Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale of New York (18), Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas (26), Michael Buble’s It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (30), Merry Christmas Everyone from Ariana Grande’s Santa Tell Me (35), Shakin’ Stevens’ Merry Christmas Everyone (36), and Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee (39).

i wonder if somebody could sing this song along after 10 years?.... and know that it was a record...totally forgettable tune and a real shame that stars and silly songs are anthems these days..most songs are hits because people are too lazy to search and thay just make streams from playlists just to listen to something...its easy but it just shows how teenegers are lazy these days haha

Much like the Radio 1 audience then? Glad I'm not part of it at my age now. You'll never get me fully converted to streaming.

A sad state of our contemporary culture. Trash seems to be very popular now days

With this new streaming record, I think Ariana is certainly the biggest contender for Christmas #1 now! :)
I love 'Sweet But Psycho' climbing up to the runner-up position, as well as: 'All I Want For Christmas', 'Rewrite The Stars' & 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' going Top 10, but not so thrilled about 'KIKA'.

No one not even Official Charts is daring to mention the new kiddie power novelty called BABYSHARK this year. Remember Mr Blobby and Bob The Builder? What an embarrassment that would be to Ariana or anyone else to be beaten by a fictional cartoon character??

'Baby Shark' has been lingering around the lower end of the Top 40 for a while. I don't know if it's on ACR or not, but the campaign behind it has nowhere near the hype in either sales nor most streaming platforms to make it a contender for Christmas #1 at the moment.
