Aretha Franklin all-star tribute concert is being planned for later this year
The Queen of Soul's former label boss Clive Davis is organising the event
Stars are being lined-up to perform at a tribute concert in honour of Aretha Franklin, who is "seriously ill" at her home in Detroit.
Record executive Clive Davis, who signed Franklin to Arista Records in 1980, is said to be organising the event at Madison Square Garden this November, according to Showbiz 411.
No further details have been revealed yet but the concert, which has been approved by Aretha, is likely to feature stars performing her best-known songs, including Say A Little Prayer, R.E.S.P.E.C.T and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. Jennifer Hudson, who Aretha approved to play her in her biopic, is likely to be involved. Look at Aretha Franklin's complete Official UK Chart history here.
Aretha's publicist Gwendolyn Quinn told Associated Press that the 76-year-old has been visited by family and friends including Stevie Wonder, her ex-husband, actor Glynn Turman and US activist Reverend Jesse Jackson.
Quinn, speaking on behalf of her family, told People: “The love she has for her family is above reproach and was evident in the warm smiles she was able to share with her nephew during his very brief visit two weeks ago.
"She is seriously ill and surrounded by family members who appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received."
Meanwhile, Beyonce and Jay-Z dedicated their On The Run II show in Detroit on Monday to the singer, saying "we love you".
