Arctic Monkeys spend a second week at the Official Albums Chart summit with AM, while Avicii, Elton John and Manic Street Preachers debut in the Top 5.
Arctic Monkeys claim a second week at the top of the Official Albums Chart today with AM.
The Sheffield-based band, who set a new chart record last weekend by becoming the first independent act to have five Number 1 studio albums in a row, have fought off tough competition from Avicii and Sir Elton John to hold onto their Number 1 position for a second week.
Avicii scores this week’s highest new entry with his debut album, True, which enters the Official Albums Chart at Number 2. True features collaborations with the likes of Adam Lambert and Chic’s Nile Rodgers, as well as Aloe Blacc and Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger, who worked with the superstar Swedish DJ on his Number 1 smash, Wake Me Up.
Sir Elton John is new in at Number 3 with his 31st studio album, The Diving Board. The chart legend, who has the has the UK’s biggest selling single of all-time to his many credits, was honoured by the British music industry earlier this month as the first recipient of the newly created BRITs Icon Award. Manic Street Preachers are new in at Number 4 with Rewind The Film – their eleventh Top 10 album – while London Grammar round off this week’s Top 5 with If You Wait (5).
New Entries
In addition to Avicii (Number 2), Elton John (3) and Manic Street Preachers (4), there are seven other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 40.
Katie Melua scores the sixth UK Top 10 album of her career today with Ketevan (Number 6), while US folk singer / songwriter Jack Johnson notches up his fourth with From Here To Now To You (7).
King’s Lynn rockers’ Deaf Havana are new in at Number 9 with their third studio album, Old Souls, and The Temperance Movement, who feature former members of Jamiroquai, Ray Davies’ band, and Ben’s Brother, enter at 12 with their debut self-titled album.
Loud Like Love (13) gives Placebo their eighth Top 40 album to date, while Wise Up Ghost, Elvis Costello’s collaboration with The Roots, and Diana Vickers’ Music To Make Boys Cry complete this week’s new entries at 28 and 37, respectively.
