Alyssa Reid and Jump Smokers leading the Official Singles chart race

18 year old Canadian newcomer Alyssa Reid takes up pole position on the Official Singles Chart Update with her first UK single release Alone Again FT Jump Smokers.

The track is based on the song Alone by ‘80s rockers Heart, which reached Number 3 in 1987. Alyssa’s version of the song went to Number 3 in her native Canada upon its release, where it stayed in the charts for seven months. The track is taken from debut studio album The Game, and features guest rapper P.Reign. Alone Again leads today’s singles race by 5,000 copies ahead of David Guetta’s Titanium FT Sia (2).

The only other new entry in today’s Update is Feeder’s new single Borders (35), taken from forthcoming eighth studio album Generation Freakshow. As well as its digital format, Borders is available to fans in CD, 7” vinyl and for the first time since 2001’s Just A Day, cassette format also.

The highest climbers so far this week in the singles race are Christina Perri’s Jar Of Hearts, which leaps 16 places to Number 21, and Ed Sheeran’s Drunk ascends 12 places to 17. And finally Gotye FT Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know continues its unrelenting ascent up the chart, climbing one place to Number 6. If the Australian-Belgian singer/songwriter can maintain this performance through to the weekend then he will have secured his highest chart position for the track which has consistently climbed and climbed throughout its five weeks on the Official Singles Chart.
