Aimée: "I went to Max Martin's house, he's so humble"

Dublin-born Aimée on why the Swedish pop connoisseur's her dream collaboration

It's safe to say we've been all sorts of obsessed with Dublin-born singer Aimée for years now. Marrying the nostalgic sounds of early noughties pop with 2022 subject matter and vocals for days, Aimée's an artist with a lot to say and a vision to match.

Now, as she releases her irresistibly-catchy new single Nobody Else, Aimée talks us through what the year holds,

Telling us the inspiration behind Nobody Else, Aimée said: "At the time it came about, I'd been writing a lot of ballads and songs with a deeper meaning. I got into my car one day, put a Backstreet Boys playlist on and thought to myself 'this is f***ing medicine.' People need fun, upbeat pop music that they don't have to [think] too much about.

"I wanted to write something more light-hearted. I'm lucky enough to be in a great relationship, which is something I've never written about; I automatically go to the great break-up songs.

"I wanted it to be a song that people can sing about a friend or family member, too. It's enjoyable. It's fun."

Chatting about her love of Swedish pop and its influence on her own sound, Aimée explained: "I'm back over in Sweden soon. Swedish pop is just...me. That's my vibe. I enjoy writing music in Sweden more than anywhere else in the world; it's just so much more fun. The songs flow better because all insecurities when it comes to writing go out of the window. Everybody's so chilled and open-minded, which I love."

Now, of course, Max Martin is the king of Swedish pop. Surely a collab would be absolutely top tier?

"I met Max Martin in January," Aimée spilled. "I went to his house in Sweden and we spent some time together in the studio; he'd be my number one collaboration. He was one of the coolest, nicest people I've ever met.

"Every time I send a musical reference to somebody, it's Max. I said to him 'I'm here, holding your dog, and you're my reference to every producer or songwriter I ever work with.

"But he's so humble. He's like 'play me another song,' and I'm like 'I don't want to take up too much of your time.' He's so nice, he's an absolute genius. He's number one on my hit list of people to work with."

So, what does the rest of the year hold for Aimée? "To be honest, I made a plan in January to write with people as much as possible," she said. "I've been busy writing over the past couple of years, but it's all been over Zoom. It's not the same.

"I'm going to LA for the whole month of June to write, then I have a summer full of festivals and shows. I'm buzzing.

"It's been so long since we've been together at festivals. I can't wait to get outside in those summer vibes. My tour in February was amazing; getting to hug people and see people face-to-face. I feel like it's easy to forget the faces and the humans behind the streaming numbers. These numbers are people.

"Being on tour re-lit the fire in me."

Nobody Else by Aimée is out now via Universal Ireland.
