Who is Gigi Perez?
Gigi Perez is an American singer-songwriter, born in New Jersey in February 2000, and is now based in Florida.
In 2024, a snippet of her unreleased track Sailor Song went viral on TikTok. When the track was finally released on July 28 2024, it became an immediate viral sensation, becoming Perez's first-ever Top 40 single in the UK. By October Sailor Song had climbed all the way into the Official Singles Chart Top 10, and on 1 November 2024 Gigi Perez toppled reigning queen of the Singles Chart Sabrina Carpenter to land her first ever UK Number 1 single.
Reacting to her first chart-topping success, Gigi said to Official Charts “What the hell? Oh my God, this is amazing! There’s such a big hole in the conversations that we’re having in mainstream music. There’s an entire group of people [the queer community] who need representation. Knowing that Sailor Song is a vessel for that, it’s amazing. Thank you!”
