Chris Cornell was born July 20, 1964 in Detroit, Michigan and was an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the rock bands Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog. Chris Cornell formed Soundgarden in 1984, initially as a drummer, along with bassist Hiro Yamamoto and guitarist Kim Thayil. Chris Cornell graduated to lead vocals, and after a few shuffles in the band line-up, Soundgarden released their debut Ultramega OK in 1988, winning a Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 1990 and released a string of million-selling albums and classic songs such as 1994’s Black Hole Sun until splitting in 1997 and reforming again in 2010. Chris Cornell launched his solo career in 1998, and recorded the theme to the James Bond film Casino Royale in 2006 You Know My Name which became his biggest hit. Also during this time, Chris Cornell formed the supergroup Audioslave in 2001 with three ex-members of Rage Against The Machine. Chris Cornell was found unconscious by his bodyguard in the bathroom of his hotel room in Detroit, Michigan, after performing at a show with Soundgarden at the Fox Theatre on May 17, 2017 having taken his own life by hanging.
