LABOUR
PARIS PALOMA
- Peak: 22,
- Weeks: 8
Paris Paloma is a rising indie-folk artist who began writing her own songs age 14, but it was in 2023 when excerpts from her alternative folk ballad, Labour, went viral on TikTok.
A rallying cry across the globe, women the world over were drawn to the song's lyrics, which criticise the patriarchal expectations of women performing unpaid labour in marriage, particularly childcare and domestic chores. The song gave Derbyshire-born singer-songwriter Paris her first Top 40 appearance on the UK Official Singles Chart, and laid the foundations for the release of her debut album, Cacophony, to follow in summer 2024.
Armed with a Fine Arts degree from Goldsmiths, Paris Paloma's song-writing and visuals draw inspiration from mythology, art history and the Romantics, alongside the human experience. Through her lyrics, Paris paints pictures with her songs, drawing parallels between the past and present to bring her own perspective on themes of love, grief, death and power.
Paris Paloma has completed a busy summer of festival appearances including a debut Glastonbury slot, sharing a stage with Stevie Nicks at BST Hyde Park, plus sold-out UK and US shows and a chill-inducing appearance on BBC's Later...with Jools Holland.
