Who are Amyl & The Sniffers?

Amyl & The Sniffers are an Australian four-piece rock band, with a sound inspired by 1970s punk groups such as Iggy Pop and The Stooges as well as influences ranging from AC/DC to Dolly Parton, Minor Threat and Sleaford Mods.

Based in Melbourne, the band was originally formed by housemates Amy Taylor (vocalist), drummer Bryce Wilson, guitarist Declan Mehrtens and Calum Newton who was later replaced by Gus Romer.

The band's name is Australian slang for amyl nitrite, in an interview with the BBC Amy compared their music to the drug "In Australia we call poppers Amyl. So you sniff it, it lasts for 30 seconds and then you have a headache - and that's what we're like!"

Their first Official Chart entry was with their 2019 eponymous debut, they broke the Top 40 with its follow-up Comfort To Me in 2021, before ascending to Top 10 status in 2024 with Cartoon Darkness, peaking at Number 9.
