CIRCA WAVES

Indie band Circa Waves formed in Liverpool in May 2013. After writing a batch of songs and putting some demos online, lead singer Kieran Shudall recruited band members Joe Falconer (guitar), Sam Rourke (bass), and drummer Sian Plummer who was replaced by Colin Jones in 2015.

With a buzz in the air early on, Circa Waves earned favourable comparisons to the likes of indie icons The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, and The Vaccines before they scored a Top 10 debut album on the Official Albums Chart with 2015’s Young Chasers, released via Virgin/EMI. Featuring breakthrough singles T-Shirt Weather and Stuck in My Teeth, the album paved the way for a series of live shows including a sold-out date at London’s O2 .

Staying true to their influences, the band matured through their later albums like 2017’s Different Creatures (11), and 2019’s What’s It Like Over There? (10), showcasing their knack for crafting infectious, post-punk anthems. 2020 saw Circa Waves score a personal best on The Official Chart, breaking the Top 5 for the first time with Sad Happy (4) before returning in 2023 with a further Top 20 placing for Never Going Under. Image: SJM press shot / credit Polocho
