GLEN CAMPBELL

Glen Campbell was born in Billstown, Arkansas on April 22, 1936 and was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, television host and actor. Glen Campbell began his professional career as a studio musician in Los Angeles, spending several years playing with the group of musicians later known as The Wrecking Crew playing on iconic recordings by Frank Sinatra, Phil Spector, Beach Boys and the Monkees. Glen Campbell launched as a solo turn in 1962, recording a host of classic songs, mostly written by songwriter Jimmy Webb, such as Galveston, Witchita Lineman, and Where’s The Playground, Susie? and won four Grammys in the country and pop categories in 1967: for Gentle on My Mind, he received two awards in country and western and By the Time I Get to Phoenix did the same in the pop categories. Glen Campbell also helped out the Beach Boys on tour, and built up an acting career during this time, most notably as La Boeuf in alongside John Wayne in True Grit. Glen Campbell calmed down during the 1970s and had a few bursts of success with the 1975 song Rhinestone Cowboy, and announced his retirement from entertainment in 2010 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's and one final studio album 2011’s Ghost On The Canvas, and died on August 8, 2017, two weeks after the release of Adios. Glen Campbell achieved one UK Official Album Chart Number 1 in 1976, with 20 Golden Greats.
