ZUTONS

Liverpool indie band The Zutons formed in 2001 and comprise members Dave McCabe (singer, songwriter and guitarist), drummer Sean Payne and Abi Harding on saxophone. Their name is taken from Captain Beefheart's Magic Band guitarist Zoot Horn Rollo.

The band's Mercury Prize-nominated Top 10 debut album Who Killed....The Zutons? was released in April 2004 and peaked at Number 6 in the Official Albums Chart the following January. The Zutons' first Top 10 single came two years later in April 2006 with Why Won't You Give Me Your Love, but it was the follow-up Valerie which would become the band's best-known hit, peaking at Number 9 and later reworked by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse whose version went all the way to Number 2 the following year. Both of their highest-charting singles were taken from The Zutons' second studio album Tired Of Hanging Around.

The Zutons disbanded shortly after the release of third studio album You Can Do Anything. In November 2023 the band announced that their fourth studio album The Big Decider, produced by Nile Rodgers, would be released in April 2024 and a series of 22 gigs in smaller UK venues would take place in the lead up to its release. The Big Decider gave The Zutons their first Top 10 album in 16 years. Image: Jonathan Turton
