MID AIR
by ROMY
Mid Air is the debut solo album from The XX's Romy, released 8 September 2023.
Produced by singer, songwriter and DJ Romy, in partnership with Stuart Price and Fred Again..., Mid Air charted at Number 15 on the Official Albums Chart. Its release was preceded by Grammy-nominated lead single Strong in November 2022, and later Enjoy Your Life in April 2023 - a track that was co-produced with bandmate Jamie XX.
A critically-acclaimed dance-pop record influenced by the likes of Everything But The Girl and woven together with Romy's trademark translucent vocals, Mid Air was mostly written during lockdown, as a love letter to the queer clubs she frequented and found community in growing up. The album touches upon themes including grief, love, identity, sexuality and mental health, its sound hits the sweet spot between euphoria, melancholy and escapism, and counts the likes of Jessie Ware among its biggest fans.
The Fred Again...-produced Loveher was the first track penned for the album. A declaration of falling in love, the song was originally written together when the pair were teamed up to write for other artists. Romy tentatively chose to keep the track for herself and it became the opening track on Mid Air.
