EVERYBODY NEEDS A HERO
by ORLA GARTLAND
Everybody Needs A Hero, released 4 October 2024, is the eagerly-anticipated second studio album from Dublin-born Orla Gartland.
Containing 12 new tracks, including the previously released Little Chaos, The Hit, Mine, Kiss Ur Face Forever, and Late To The Party feat. Declan McKenna, as well as anthemic single Backseat Driver, co-written with Orla's close friend Lauren Aquilina.
London-based Orla is bold, brash and increasingly self-assured on Everybody Needs A Hero. Sonically and lyrically louder than ever before and underpinned by brutal honesty, this second album, with its poignant and tongue-in-cheek storytelling, tracks the journey of self-discovery you go through within the confines of a long-term relationship. Often an internalised struggle, Gartland voices these intimate intricacies and details the inescapable individual and collective compromises.
Taking a hands-on approach, Gartland was across every aspect of building the world of Everybody Needs A Hero which was created between her London studio and Middle Farm Studios in Devon. Co-producing the album along with long-time collaborators Tom Stafford and Peter Miles, involved in the mixing and mastering processes and working collaboratively on the project’s creative direction, Gartland approves every decision - a power she notes may have been relinquished had she opted to release the album via a traditional record label rather than her own independent imprint, New Friends.
On the release of the album, Orla said “This record is about one relationship and detailing the multitude of feelings I had about that person all at once. One feeling doesn’t cancel another out but instead they co-exist; that has been my experience.”
