GARY
by BLOSSOMS
Gary is the fifth studio album, and fourth Number 1, from Stockport indie band Blossoms. Released 20 September 2024, the album landed straight in at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart a week later.
Produced by J Lloyd (Jungle 12M MLs) and James Skelly, the album title Gary is named after an 8-foot fibre glass gorilla that was stolen from a Lanarkshire Garden Centre in early 2023, and since then there has been a campaign to locate him. His rear end was found, but his frontage remained missing.
Gary marks Blossoms's fourth Number 1 album of their career, and their fifth Top 5 placing in a row. Blossoms’ 2016 debut topped the album charts for two consecutive weeks and went on to earn the band BRIT Award and Mercury Prize nominations, while 2018’s Cool Like You charted at Number 4 in the UK album chart, spawning the anthemic singles I Can’t Stand It, There’s A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) and How Long Will This Last? Their third studio album, 2020’s Foolish Loving Spaces was the band’s second UK Number 1 album, while 2022's Ribbon Around The Bomb and Gary bring their total to four Number 1s.
