Glad to see a new number one this week, don't see the appeal for some of the top 5 songs though, specifically 'Great Expectation' and 'Boston' both songs I find incredibly irritating. Would have loved for 'Material Lover' to be there instead.

My ranking list of songs in this week in top 40 (not ALL of them, only the ones I consider most signifiant):

S TIER

Great Expectation - SIENNA SPIRO [2]: What can I say? We have a worthy successor to Lewis Capaldi's Someone You Loved. SS's music is just so beautiful, PURE and natural-sounding. The amount of emotion in her voice throughout this song caused me to dissolve into happy tears the first time I heard it, and still be stunned every later time I listen to it. In fact,GE s so stupidly superb that I have to NOT listen to it in my playlist so that I don't lose the extraordinary aura of hearing it on the radio naturally. Another thing I really like about SS is her attitude. Far too many singers (particularly women) are incredibly sexually explicit and graphic about the contents of their songs. Besides the potentially-dubious cover of the Visitor album, I've NEVER seen SS sexualise herself/her listeners, write songs with a large amount of profanity that needs umpteen censors, or make herself inappropriate for young listeners in any way. Beautiful, kind and emotional are words I have to use to describe this song, as well as all of SS's other songs and herself.

Die On This Hill - SIENNA SPIRO [13]: Deciding whether GE or DoTH is the best song in this chart was so difficult. Since DoTH never had the same success as GE, I'll always feel more happy and emotion when I hear DoTH since it's newer to me (I also have to exclude DoTH from my playlist.) DoTH is also more melodically advanced and the bridge is utterly brilliant with all of the violin arpeggios, in contrast GE is literally just the four chords song. But in the end, I chose GE since it was the one and only song that cemented SS as my favourite female artist of all time (after Lewis Capaldi and Sam Fender for my very favourite). 

A TIER

Rein Me In - Sam Fender and Olivia Dean [7]: Well, well, well. As everyone knows, this song took an insane 23 week streak at number one before falling onto ACR. When I listened to the chart last night, I knew EXACTLY what Jack Saunders meant when he said "This is not a drill!" and acted very surprised, even though it was blindingly obvious that it had gone on ACR. RMI is about the only song in 2026 I have more than 1000 streams of, and that's because it's just so well-written and memorable. I don't get the same extraordinary vibe fromRMI as I do with any SS music, but it's still,  in my opinion, a very long-lasting and deserving number one. And I was disappointed when I heard it had gone on ACR. There's something about it that makes it impossible to click the "Not Interested" button on YouTube for this song - I always feel happier after I've heard it. But I would say, I do prefer the earlier SF half to the later OD half - I often even prefer the version that only has SF. I do understand that the female aspect that OD brings is the reason it came even close to number one, so I do have SOMETHING to thank her for.

Ordinary - Alex Warren [29]: The RMI of 2025. But like RMI itself, it's a song that I just can't let go of. It's far better melodically, religious (which is unusual for a number one pop song), and just well-made in general. I think it deserved all 14 weeks it got in 2025 and am pleased to see it still hanging in there, even under the influence of ACR.

My Body Isn't Ready - Sombr [19]:  I really didn't think that a Sombr song would impress me as much as MBIR has, but here we are. While somewhat repetitive, it still has a lot of emotion and melodic development - something which I think is a core part of writing a good song. Before this great song came out, none of Sombr's hits had impressed me (Back To Friends was decent, but Undressed and particularly 12 to 12 seemed incredibly monotone to me)

Sign of the Times- Harry Styles [24]: Like Sombr, I really didn't think a Harry song would be as good as this. In particular, I found As it Was hugely overrated and unnecessarily long time at number one. But this, this is much better. After doing some research on the song, I found out that this is NOT his newest song, but infact his debut one. This suggests to me that HS was a far better songwriter in 2017 than now, with the amount of variation and melody in this song.

The Cure - Olivia Rodrigo [8]: Yet another artist I'd not been impressed by before (I thought her music was a little effeminate), but this is a huge improvement and I'm pleased to know how much it has avoided ACR, because it deserves better than that.

B TIER 

PURE - SIENNA SPIRO [36]: The only song by SS which I don't consider to be one of the best in the history of music. But it's growing on me - it might be in A tier next week. And another favour to this song is that it's knocked out the lame Material Lover which is, in my opinion, the first truly bad SS song.

Boston - STELLA LEFTY [4]: I don't mind a bit of country music from time to time. In fact, I think that this is one of the best country efforts in the current chart. If it's on ACR right now, I don't understand why - it's not really declined too much. Then why has it dropped to number four?

Islands in the Stream - Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers [9]: The only song by Dolly Parton that I think I would like if DP was an entirely new artist. While I do think DP deserves the three entries in the top 10 after she inspired everyone (I'm looking at you STELLA LEFTY!) this is the best one in my opinion.

Be Her - Ella Langley [30]: In my opinion, a much better effort than Choosin' Texas and probably my second favourite country song in the chart, after Boston.​

Stupid Song - Olivia Rodrigo [20]: While it's not the best song that's ever hit the charts (the bridge is really annoying in my opinion), I think a bare minimum ACR is not what this song deserved. It was even a number one before RMI took control again - which is one of the major downsides of RMI that I didn't mention, it blocking other good number ones like this.

C TIER

Blessings - Calvin Harris and Clementine Douglas [37]: The only dance song in the whole chart that  has truly earnt its place. Nothing more to say.

Hate That I Made You Love Me - Ariana Grande [27]: Nothing special about it, it's just a decent song that I can listen to quite happily (unlike Petal which is so extraordinarily high it's hard to cope with.) But no new Ariana Grande song is going to top the great We Can't Be Friends, Wait For Your Love.​

Choosin' Texas - Ella Langley [1]: Even though I've been a RMI supporter, a new number one was going to have to happen. And it's okay - the chorus is catchy, but there's a few bits that I don't consider to be too good - particularly the incredibly cringe "C'mon, baby", after the second chorus.

9 to 5 - Dolly Parton [5]: What a throwback. But it probably wouldn't be anything special for me if it wasn't for DP passing away.

Animal - KATSEYE [16]: Infinitely better than Hootie FrutiI, but still not really my kind of music.

Man I Need - Olivia Dean [10]: I'm not saying that OD is a bad singer or songwriter - especially after she had a half-decent solo in RMI. It's just she seems very dull and repetitive. I had it on my playlist for a short while, until I got bored of it and clicked "Not Interested". In particular, the video is ridiculously "on the nose" and not creative at all.

D TIER 

Dai Dai - Shakira [14]: Not too familiar with Shakira, but this song is just really dull. Absolutely no sense of structure, melodic talent or any of the rest. Not the one for me.

Movin' To The Sun - Hugel, Amel Angel, Ultra Nate [3]: No good. The only reason I actually danced to it yesterday was of the excitement that Great Expectation might be number one. Not deserving at all.

Petal - Ariana Grande [35]: Not a bad tune, but the chorus is so extraordinary high I can't cope with it.

LOSER - Tame Impala [12]: Nothing of essence to hear, nothing beyond a flimsy rockish song. Not for me.

E TIER 

Jolene - Dolly Parton [6]: So repetitive and dull. I love DP but this just isn't the right one for me.

Sue Me - Audrey Hobert [21]: Again, nothing I really want to say about this one.

F TIER

Hootie Fruti - KATSEYE [33]: Disgusting. Like WHAT IS THE POINT?

On 2Nite - Silva Bumpa [11]: No. Just so boring, repetitive and tuneless.

Training Season - Dua Lipa [18]: No. Just no. I will literally walk away from my computer/turn off the radio the moment this foul monstrocity gets played. Not deserving the return AT ALL.

such a horrible number one. since when have we cared for country music in the uk? this is the epitome of playola and botted playlisting. 

dolly was supposed to be number one. i would've even preferred movin' to the sun. this maga lassie and that stupid song is a no no. 

This morning on BBC1 Breakfast Show they announced that 9 to 5 was the new No1 Single. A very unusual announcement. Usually they might say a particular single is "on track" or "looks like" but this morning it was a definitive statement. So what happened between 8. 15 am and 6.00pm? Dolly was at No1, No2 and No7 on the midweek chart- if her streaming numbers had peaked earlier in the week then surely that information would've been intimated to the BBC.

This is the only time I can remember such a definitive statement being announced prior to the chart announcement later on the day.

Something seems very strange about this...

This is what I suggest but still may like need more planning

Acr is what 25% increase and maintaining for over 3 weeks to get off acr and just over 27% in 1 week.

I rather keep the 25% over 3 weeks to go from tier 3 to 2. 1 week from tier 3 to tier 2 being 30% then the following week has to be 32.5% further increase to from tier 2 to 1. Then tier 1 to acr the following week another 35% increase. 

So for example say if 3,500,000 streams from YouTube, tiktok, apple streaming and Spotify combined is the benchmark then tier 3 to 2 would be 4,550,000 streams instead of 4,445,000 then following week for tier 2 to tier 1 would have to be 4,637,500 streams and tier 1 to scr the following week 4,725,000 streams. From tier 3 straight scr 97.5% would be 6,912,500 week 1 and from tier 2 to scr be 62.5% at 5,687,500 streams week 1 and tier 1 week to scr 30% at 4,550,000 streams. Market Numbers required to change over time though. So could end up being higher or lower numbers required. Over 3 weeks decline songs have to in just 1 week have to increase over 6% in streams to reset the 3 weeks decline clock. I rather have that changed to like to 6.5 or 7%.

Songs over 3 years old charted would be tier 3 to 2 then be 32.5%. Tier 2 to 1 the 35% and tier 1 to scr 37.5%. So using 3,500,000 has the same benchmark for example again. Tier 3 to 2 would be 4,637,500, tier 2 to 1 be 4,725,000 and tier 1 to scr 4,812,500.

Tier 3 to scr 105% so 7,175,000

Tier 2 to scr 67.5% so 5,862,500

Tier 1 to scr 32.5% so 4,637,500

Remember

Tier 1: 200 streams = 1 sales point.

Tier 2: 250 streams = 1 sales point

Tier 3: 300 streams = 1 sales point.

Need to figure out on the falling onto acr with declines per week though.

Rein Me In took 36 weeks to reach #1, and holds the record for the longest climb to number one in a single, consecutive chart run. Choosin' Texas has taken 35 weeks to reach #1, so has had the second longest consecutive week climb to #1 in UK chart history.

Rein Me In is, as we all know, the longest-running #1 in UK chart history, and, currently on 20 weeks at #1, Choosin' Texas is the longest-running non-Xmas #1 in the US, and is only 2 weeks away from being the longest-running of all. 

Dolly Parton may get #1, #2 and #3 next week. Always a possibility. Perhaps bring Luke Combs to the top 40 as well.

Sienna Spiro will probably go to #1 next week since Great Expectation has been skyrocketing in streams over the past few days. :)

I’m genuinely quite surprised that Choosin’ Texas has gone to #1 considering that we are not the first country that people think of when it comes to country music lovers. 🤠

I honestly thought Animal would have been higher on the chart. Yes, I know radio play doesn't influence the charts, but it's definitely overplayed. "It has to be popular, right?" was my thought.

Bye Bye won't be missing you up there. There is that still what if thing though would the chart have reformed away from the +5 million - 5 million ACR/SCR bull if it had broken Robin Hood 16 weeks of not being toppled in a row. I would have thought it would have been only a couple more weeks to cope with it to hit a Robin Hood beating 17 by now anyway then our silly chart company Kantar Official Charts Company would have had to de stupify the chart rules from chart fixing to real results.

Happy choosin' texas gotten to no.1

Has it increased enough to reset the 3 weeks decline counter towards acr? 

It looks like ‘Training Season’ might get a big second chart run during the autumn. Dua Lipa is a fantastic popstar, so I’m not exactly complaining about that.

That said, I wish ‘Maria’ and ‘Happy For You’ became hits for her. Easily among the best tracks from that album.

‘9 To 5’ may not have reached #1, but it does at least give Dolly Parton a new all-time peak on the singles chart today.

The fact that she has three songs in the Top 10 this week shows just how loved and respected she is. Her name will go down in country music history forever.

We finally have a new #1… and it’s yet another single that was released last year. Personally, I was hoping it would be Dolly Parton in tribute to her remarkable career.

Oh well, at least the run for ‘Rein Me In’ has come to an end. I think it has to be up there as one of the longest overdue ACR hits of all-time.
