I think the Manics' "Empty Souls" single should have been the 1,000th No.1, still one of my fave singles of theirs, but it didn't stand much of a chance against those Elvis reissues.

Why were there Elvis Presley songs in the charts of 2005? I thought he would of been more 1955 not 2005

All his previous UK number ones were re-released on a weekly basis. I can't remember the reason, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly as the first few got to Number 1, but I think by the end they were only just getting in the Top 20.

It was his birthday (January 8th). He would have been 70. Also his debut single was reissued in the previous year as it became 50 years old, and the recording came out of copyright. All 17 chart-eligible reissues hit the top 10, but fell out more quickly as it went on. Almost all spending exactly 4 weeks in the top 75.
