Children, with its instantly-recognisable piano riff, is an instrumental dance track by late Italian producer Robert Miles who passed away in May 2017.
Released in November 1995 as the lead single from Robert Miles' debut album Dreamland, Children peaked at Number 2 on the UK Official Singles Chart, where it sat for three weeks held off the Number 1 spot by Oasis's Don't Look Back In Anger and Take That's How Deep Is Your Love.
A pioneering track of the Dream house genre, Miles was inspired to create the track both in response to photographs of child war victims that his father brough home from a humanitarian mission in the former Yugoslavia, and also as a go-to song to end DJ and calm ravers on their exit to encourage safer journeys home.
Children was crowned Essential Tune Of The Week at the time by influential DJ and broadcaster Pete Tong. Robert Miles scored 3 UK Top 10 singles in 1996 including Children, which spent 10 weeks in the UK Top 10.
In 2023, Switch Disco and Ella Henderson sampled Children for their Top 10 single React, reaching Number 4.
