ABRACADABRA
by LADY GAGA
Abracadabra is the second single taken from Lady Gaga's seventh studio album, MAYHEM.
The chaotic, operatic dark-pop banger (written by Gaga, Cirkut and watt, who also produced it) was first debuted on a Mastercard advert during the live broadcast of the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday February 2nd, the single and its accompanying choreography-heavy music video (directed by Gaga, Parris Goebel and Bethany Vargas) were then released to streaming services via Interscope Records.
The single - which recalls Gaga at her outré best, with sonic similarities to older material such as Alejandro and Born This Way album track Schieße - is a heady trip to the dark side between life and death, with repeated references to a 'lady in red,' who you will meet when you cross to the other side.
'Abracadabra! Amor-ooh na-na,' Gaga chants on the gothic chorus. 'In her tongue she said, "death or love tonight."' In the track's music video. this becomes more explicit, as we see two seperate sides of Gaga battle it out on the dancefloor for life and death, light and dark. Following on from the industrial-pop howl of MAYHEM lead track Disease, it's clear this is the darkest, most chaotic version of Gaga we've seen since at least 2013's chaotic dance opus ARTPOP.
Siouxsie and the Banshees members Siouxsie (Susan Ballion), Budgie (Peter Edward Clark), John McGeoch and Steven Severin are also credited as writers on the track, given a sample of the Siouxsie and the Banshees track Spellbound.
