Greetings OCC community. I have finally created my new account. I don't expect to be particularly active, but I'm here. Hoping to see Billie take the #1, if not now, when Sprinter hits ACR (as Sprinter is decent, but there would be more deserving rap songs to reach the 10 week mark first). What's everyone thinking about this week's big three albums? I can't say I plan on listening to Anne-Marie following PSYCHO and Sad , unless it's particularly good in its deep cuts? I was fairly indifferent to AUSTIN, although it had a few high highs. UTOPIA will be on rotation for quite a while though.

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

Which Billie Song are you hoping reaches number 1, I assume you're talking about what was I made for (Unless there's something new coming out) but that probably won't reach the top spot as the movie just came out, hype is going to decline, I assume when the next chart comes out it will be lower. I just checked the Midweek and while Dance the Night has reached 3rd, what was I made for has plummeted to 12th place. And Sprinter will have likely another 1-3 weeks before ACR kicks in, I don't know what's being released then that could take the number 1 spot before then but to me it seems entirely possible that after ACR kicks in, Vampire will top the chart, which is well deserved in my opinion.

Foxes

That Billie song is pretty dreadful imo but as long as Sprinter can reach 10 weeks at #1 then idrc what replaces it lol. UNHEALTHY was pretty bad, but AUSTIN and UTOPIA are both great imo, though AUSTIN is probably still Post's weakest.

This is the Officially Crappiest Collection (OCC) website in the world... slow, no response acknowledgments, illogical (can't step to latest chart from week view), error prone (2005 chart refs in 1995 charts), unintuitive links... nothing to do with the fact that Adblock blocks 152 adverts on this single page - sod the customer let's just make money.

avatar

Half Giant aka Ethan

0

In all fairness to the adverts, how else would they make profit? Radio 1 and MTV probably don't even pay OCC enough to cover the interviews they do with artists, so for a company whose business revolves around a free website, the adverts are understandable. The fact that you're using the adblocker is exactly why they have to have 152 adverts.

Can somebody tell me why Kylie is already on ACR after just 10 wks and the song still being strong?? Dont understand

avatar

THIERRY

me neither Damian!! But she may bounce back the following week...fingers crossed!

X

Xander

1

ACR isn't active yet, it's declined in chart position 3 weeks in a row but I think it increased in sales one of these weeks or else it would have already taken effect because 10 weeks have passed and that's the minimum for ACR to take effect. I think it inceased in sales in the most recent week but fell down the chart thanks to the songs related to barbie. If Kylie's song was on ACR it would have fallen to like 50th place or something it wouldn't be at 16th

Good to see Dua now matching the record of Rita and Jess (Glynne) for most UK female top 10 hits..think Dua has the best chance of breaking that record and extending it the most..

Really hope to see either BILLIE or DUA getting the number 1 spot next week...8 weeks at number for the current number 1 single is too much!!

avatar

itsnoodleszn_

3

as much as i love dave, 8 weeks is a long time. i really hope billie eilish can get the number 1 spot she deserves or even ice spice

avatar

Foxes

1

8 weeks is a long time, but if it gets 2 more weeks then it will be the only rap song ever to reach 10 weeks at #1. it's not Sprinter's time to go until it can break that record lol

avatar

macie

1

yeah if it ties flowers or gets like 1 more week after that’s fine

avatar

itsnoodleszn_

1

so you’re telling me no rap song has hit 10 weeks before, like ever? i’d love dave to be the one to do it because i’d rank him as one of my favourites of all time, plus if it can beat that npc flowers song thatd be great

Starlight deserved 10 weeks I fear

Indeed...either Billie, DUA or even better ICE SPICE!!

Happy to see ZAYN back inside the Top 40!! Hopefully he will have more success with LOVE LIKE THIS than his previous singles....

2

Over the moon to see finally "DIAL DRUNK" having a great week and up 49 places this week!! Yippee..what a song, what a voice...Nonetheless i much prefer the solo version than the one with POST MALONE!!

avatar

3

i liked dial drunk enough but getting postie on the remix was a great idea, him and noah have some amazing chemistry

one thing i’ve noticed is that after seeing him live, i’ve become a bigger postie fan than i was in like 2018/19 😭

avatar

macie

1

I mean his album made Chemical go from a 4/10 to a 9/10 for me so 😳 The Dial Drunk remix is very good though

avatar

THIERRY

1

Amazing artist...he is having a blast right now in the US as well!! Finally a talented artist who is having a success well deserved!

avatar

THIERRY

2

Didn't expect to see "SO MUCH IN LOVE" dropping the Top 20 this week after having a very good run to break it!! Hopefully it can bounce back next week!!

avatar

THIERRY

3

Happy to see BECKY getting another Top 20 this week! "DISCONNECT" already at number 17 after only 2 weeks on the chart!! Wish "SIDE EFFECTS" has more success: hardly broke the Top 40!! Go figure!!

avatar

THIERRY

3

As much as i dislike DUA, i actually really like "DANCE THE NIGHT" and so glad the single made the Top 5 this week!! still surprised to see the amazing BILLIE getting higher than DUA this week as much as i like BILLIE, "what was..." isn't as good as DANCE THE NIGHT...

avatar

THIERRY

3

Glad to see "NOTHING COMPARES TO YOU" back to the Top 75 and hopefully will make the Top 40 next week? Still cannot believe the amazing SINEAD is gone! So sad..56 years old is too young to die! Gone but not forgotten obviously!

It's good to see Dua Lipa up there in the charts again🥳.

But unfortunately the rest of the chart isn't my favourite by any means I just really hope some EDM summer bangers will come and take over

avatar

itsnoodleszn_

-1

yeah the charts have fallen off in comparison to the brilliant start of this year. i love the top 5, sure, but most of what’s hot right now is trance garbage (arguably the “edm summer bangers”) or generic drill. my taste has been very anti-mainstream for a year now, showing that you have to dig deep and push your boundaries to find stuff you love, like true music fans! (formal apologies to anyone who knew me when i had a basic taste 💀)

Chart Update 28/07/2023

'bout time the chart answered my prayers about how static they are

ANYWAYS. The chart. Uploaded on time. Brilliant. And with it, comes an absolute shedload of stories, ready to fill up the next few paragraphs, whilst everybody else sees more -1s than my average ratio uploading these. Starting, however, with the biggest NON-story of the week, and Dave & Central Cee.. are.. zzzzz. AAAH. SORRY THERE. I just fell asleep because it was so predictable. But yeah, 8 weeks now, biggest UK rap song of all time, can I go home now?

Oh wait. I'm already at home. And O-Rod is STILL NO.2. The four weeks she's spent here feel like four months, it's that gutpounding. Either she tops the chart, or I do. Or, perhaps, one of the Barbie songs.

Yeah, Barbie happened. There's more hits relating to this topic than a UFC combatant and a punching bag. We could be here all day talking about some of the stuff here, but suffice to say, the streams have taken off. So that's why Billie Eilish is up to 3rd spot with What Was I Made For, Dua Lipa finally breaks into the upper regions with Dance The Night, and who could forget Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice doing everything they can to turn your ears into brattenburg. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Out of the 7 new hits and 1 re-entry, 3 of them have quite obvious links to the hot new thing of 2023. Charli XCX grabs her first Top 20 hit since Brexit was relevant in the form of Speed Drive (5.6/10), which is fine when it's not racing to the finish line at 2 minutes long, Lizzo firing her way back into the 40 with Pink (5/10), which, sadly, I have already forgot about since listening to the chart show. You may have also forgotten that yes, celebs CAN sing, and Ryan Gosling is here to prove it. Even if his attempt comes in the form of a pretty tame ballad (5/10). But just remember, no matter how many people ridicule you, repeat to yourself, 'I'm Just Ken'. I can guarantee you the enjoyment levels will soar when you say that.

In other news, Jung Kook is a 1-week wonder, as expected, Becky Hill starts her (well-deserved) regular assault on the upper reaches, but most importantly, BYRON MESSIA GOT PLAYED ON RADIO 1. It only took 8 weeks and a Burna Boy remix, but a jump up to No.12 means that for the first time ever, casual listeners can be engrossed in the predictable afrobeats sound that plagues Burna Boy's other hits. I'm not dissing him or anything, but that's just how it is.

Stormzy makes his return after the quick in-n-out form of Toxic Trait, by grabbing RAYE by the coattails and forcing her to remind us that she was on a DBE song once. Albeit a good one, but still. The Weekend is fine, the lyrics are fine, the melody is fine, but you know what's her fine. Her being up for a Mercury. Great on her I suppose, but my money is on either Fred Again, Jessie Ware, or the Arctics winning it. I was a bit sickened at the sight of The 1975's latest collection not being up for it, but that has less to do with the music and more about how Matty Healy's brain works. It's that old Morgan Wallen situation, isn't it.

In other news, Travis Scott has a new album out now, and with it comes a song with The Weeknd on it, so you knew it'd be here. On the plus side, K-POP isn't that bad, but on the negative, is has the musical stain that is Bad Bunny, so that kinda evens itself out (5/10).

Also helped by an unecessary remix is Noah Kanah, who rereleased her album Stick Season because A) I guess he got bored, and B), Dial Drunk went big on TikTok. It did not make the Top 40 however, so here comes Post Malone to throw his hat in the ring and force it up to 32. An alright song and all, but I can't help feeling this song is just a little tryhard. Still, it's certainly better than some of the other country stars out there (5.5/10).

It may have also come to your attention that Zayn Malik still has a music career. Currently he is battling to be the 3rd most popular 1D man after Harry and Niall, and given none of the stuff from his last album, Nobody is Listening (how ironic) made the Top 40, I guess you could consider Love Like This (4.4/10) a return to form. Even though he'll fall so far away from the Top 40 next week, you'll be convinced his legs are made of gravel.

Sam Smith, Ava Max and The Kid LAROI's Barbie contributions are also in the chart somewhere, Leigh-Anne Pinnock still can't get anywhere, Beebadoobee and Ice Spice also have new songs dabbing their way in, but there is other news. Blur have yet another chart topping album, in the form of The Ballad of Darren, although none of the songs are on the chart. Lead single The Narcissist made it to 81 a few months ago, which is a bit loserish until you realize that no songs from Blur had made the chart in over a decade. Oh, and Aqua are back at 40 with Barbie Girl. That says it all, really. What do you want me to say about this song that hasn't been said already? Apart from, this is Nicki Minaj's fault?

But yeah, what a week. Finally the charts are getting a sense of craziness back. Hopefully next week will be of similar qualities, once Drake and Central Cee's latest freestyle stops banging on the door. G'day.

(P.S. Sinead O'Connor has also taken off on Spotify, and with it seems Nothing Compares 2 U re-enter at 45. I never really liked her stuff, but I respect her stuff, I wish her family some love, and I always had a soft for Special Cases by Massive Attack, or Illegal Attacks by Ian Brown. Bless ya Irish hart. 🙏🏻

I never thought I'd see the day you'd give 'Chemical' that high of a score! 😅

Glad to see it though, as well as a fairly high overall average for the album. :)

Yeesh. Cruel Summer hasn't gone down well, has it.

Still, nice to know that it's physically impossible to really rate Aqua anywhere.

It got downgraded... to a 10/10! 😳

Yeah, I don't know whether or like 'Barbie Girl' or not lmao.

Finally, ‘Dial Drunk’ got its Top 40 breakthrough after all! 🥳

I liked the original, but the Post Malone remix is even better! Him and Noah have incredible chemistry.

Speaking of Posty, his new album was very good and hopefully it can make a bit of an impact here next week!

ah fair enough, it was just about blocked from #1 for me in a last minute #1 surge for If Only I 😩 I reckon Post could get a small album bomb for me but I’m not sure

i would say The Weekend should be stable for me next week but between austin and utopia it'll probably fall, would normally be stable or potentially climb to #2 though lol

‘The Weekend’ is such a good collab! 😍

Hopefully it can become an even bigger hit for Stormzy and RAYE later in the summer. :)

The Barbie soundtrack was a bit of a mix on the whole, but the singles have that charted have been generally good.

Pleased to see both ‘What Was I Made For?’ and ‘Dance The Night’ in the Top 5, especially the former climbing all the way to third! 😊

RIP Sinéad O’Connor! ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was an absolute classic, wish it could've returned to the Top 40 this week.

I can only hope she’s with her late son now! 🙏

She defined a generation in the early 90s. And as you said mate, I guess she'll finally be in peace along with her son
