GREAT to see lost by frank ocean at 44 and someone else by private zero at 89, both 10/10 tunes and to see some proper music in the lower ends at least is pleasing - kids donât know proper music so thatâs why thereâs so much edm in the chart đ

Hello everyone, how are you all?
We don't talk about Bruno getting to number 1 is just crazy, I mean it's just slow and boring and something that the only reason it's number 1 is because 3 year olds will probably be streaming 50 times on repeat. Anyways, on a happier note the motto is an absolute banger so good to see that climb. Where are you now is also so good and that's climbing rapidly. Erm a bit of a surprise to see packs and potions at 26,I heard it on soccer AM the other week and thought it was just some random football doing they'd found,I also joked that Steven Gerrard was singing.
𧥠oliviasnoodles đ
packs and potions sounds like a parody if iâm being honest - i havenât laughed at an unintentionally funny song like this in ages! iâll admit i do have a soft spot for the scouser accent, so i donât hate the song because of that, but this song is just bad because the beat is really blocky.
packs and potions is a strong 2/10 from me - like, pick a better beat and iâd bump it up higher.

the 3 song rule and acr should get scrapped occ is an idiotic baby hope they will learn their mistake and album bombs are normal they fade away after 2 months who cares and acr should make only songs older 20+ weeks or they should scrap both those rules cuz they are an idiot baby

OCC is an idiotic baby for adding the 3 song rule and ACR those rules need to get scrapped or occ will end up just as a baby and get fired

I was so shocked at #1 when I first heard, but I'm so glad my recommendation has now topped for a month and become an 11/10 rating!
Piran
Not only that, but that's longer than any other recommendation has ever spent at #1 for me! ;)
DamiĂĄn
I'm glad Ella Henderson has climbed in your personal chart. Otherwise, she only lasted 1 week on the top 100...

I really can't understand why the UK just slept on it like that. :/

WEEKLY CHART REVIEW (21/01/2022 â 27/01/2022):
đŽ (Negative)
1) âWaiting For A Lifetimeâ appears to have underperformed massively! I was hoping that it would get at least a bit of recognition given how similar this is to âIf You Really Love Me [How Will I Know]â by David Guetta & MistaJam, but apparently John Newman trying a similar sound by himself wasnât anywhere near as successful.
đ (Mixed)
1) In easily the biggest news of the week, âWe Donât Talk About Brunoâ becomes the new #1, which even though I have no strong opinion on it, is a massive moment in history for the Latin musical culture! Iâll admit that itâs tough to review a song from a movie when youâve not seen the film itâs from itself, but understanding the context of where the character of Bruno lies in âEncantoâ, I now get why this would be the breakthrough hit (even if they say his name an awful lot for someone who they claim not to discuss). Even outside of that, with as many cast members as possible getting solo parts here, it has a very theatrical & eccentric take to it, which is definitely makes it an amusing listen, but I just have more of a personal connection to the big anthemic & motivational hits when it comes to these kind of musicals. So yeah, itâs still not my favourite track from the soundtrack by any means & I remain completely baffled that of all the Disney classics over the years, this is the one that makes it to #1, but the song has grown on me at least a little over the past week! Weâll see it where it goes from here, but honestly, it doesnât look the hype is slowing down anytime soon.
2) As a result of the above, âABCDEFUâ falls from the top spot! Itâs unfortunately soured on me a little, but thatâs only by too much exposure to the ânicerâ version on the radio (which is significantly less sincere than the âangrierâ version) rather than anything Gayleâs done as such. Although itâll be interesting to see how well her new single âUr Just H0rnyâ performs in the weeks ahead! No, guys, Iâm seriously not making that up, thatâs the song title.
3) Unsurprisingly, âSurface Pressureâ is also gathering even further momentum! However, unlike âWe Donât Talk About Brunoâ, this is song that Iâve been fairly lukewarm on from the start & my opinion on it hasnât really changed at all. I donât know about you guys, but I feel that in âEncantoâs case, a majority of people are going to see the film purely because of the music centred around it, while with other recent musicals, e.g. âThe Greatest Showmanâ, âA Star Is Bornâ, âMamma Mia 2â, âFrozenâ, etc., a lot more people checked out the full soundtrack after seeing the film, but that doesnât really seem to be the case with âEncantoâ! Partly the reason for this is also the increased access to streaming since the turn of the decade & honestly, I think we wouldâve been seeing an even bigger album for âEncantoâ than we wouldâve had for âDawn FMâ without OCCâs rules in place, even if on the flipside, the soundtrack itself is selling far less than youâd expect given all the recent discussion that itâs been generating. Maybe itâs not as hyped as the other aforementioned films here are, especially when you look at the box office figures for it, but as a long-time regular chartwatcher, thereâs definitely still that sense of curiosity here to see the film given how unique these kind of songs are compared to others inside the Top 10!
4) Iâm fine with Adele pushing âOh My Godâ as the next single, given its early commercial success & relatively quality compared to other tracks on â30â, but even then, all the second singles from her previous albums just wipe the floor with this.
5) While âPacks & Potionsâ is kind of forgettable & itâs hard to even understand what Hazeyâs saying, the tropical beat is certainly unique for this kind of rap song & his Scouse accent makes this stand out from his peers even further.
6) Even though it didnât end up relatively high, âEazyâ is still the only notable debut of the week! Iâll say this, The Game & Yeâs rap performances here were definitely above my expectations. The formerâs always been one to wear his heart on his sleeve & when you look at the storytelling in his lyrics around the battles he has to face in his life for being in the rap industry, the storytelling makes his part all the more evocative. Of course, like anytime Kanye features on a song, he almost always steals the headlines! That kind of frustrates me when his verse is significantly less memorable & unfortunately far more petty, especially with the shots taken at Pete Davidson, although outside of that line, I can somewhat get his frustration given the trials & tribulations heâs recently had to go through in his own personal life. My larger issue is that sincerity like this deserves far better production than that swampy, frail bass & Michelâleâs vocals mixed into this do the song no justice either because of just how out-of-place they feel in already glitchy production! Overall, I unfortunately donât see myself revisiting this, but at the same time, I canât really get mad about it either.
7) âSweet Talkerâ fell back out of the Top 40, but Iâm not disappointed about it because itâll return next week thanks to the new Years & Years album.
đą (Positive)
1) âPeruâ made it into the Top 5! Even if itâs only really here because of Ed, itâs awesome to see another major landmark for Afrobeat hits in the UK & yet, itâs probably better than any single on â=â except âVisiting Hoursâ. Edâs always been at his most interesting when he explores cultural music (itâs probably why âĂ·â is my favourite album of his) & while this is far from the best thing heâs hopped on, it has a really chilled vibe to it with just enough chemistry with Fireboy DML to stick the landing!
2) âWhere Are You Nowâ makes yet another climb! Top 10 for this next week? Itâs literally within touching distance of making it, haha.
3) âDown Underâ got another small push! The 1984 original rock smash from Men At Work & the 2021 DnB remix from Luude both work for me, even if theyâre entirely different songs.
4) âMake Me Feel Goodâ completely exploded by the chart! Yeah, itâs repetitive as , but the retro disco feel to it definitely makes it a standout as far as more recent EDM songs in the charts go.
5) âThe Mottoâ is back inside the Top 40! A rebound for this perhaps isnât surprising given how much Iâve been hearing it everywhere lately, but a new peak for it? I didnât see that part coming, but Iâm so happy that it did!
Have a nice weekend everyone! â€ïž

john newman will probably debut in a few weeks/months, but i doubt he can go top 40 even if he does

Yeah, for as much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree. :/

I can't believe that Bruno thing is number one - it's just so dull! I did think that about Let It Go to start with though but THE ATTRITION got me on that one. I can't see it happening with Bruno though somehow :-/
Piran
I personally think 'Let It Go' was a better song myself! Surprised it never made it into the Top 10. :/

I wouldn't call it dull. I'm probably biased because I like it but there's so much going on in the song that I don't see why it is dull.

Nice chart review but given how much Peru has been played in my country, (since June 2021), I won't be really happy if this song reaches No. 1. What next the new Ckay song ??
DamiĂĄn
Great, great review Piran! I absolutely agree on John Newman's song. It's so catchy and danceable but I don't know what has happened to him in the UK? He used to have success with every single release back in the day!
DamiĂĄn
I hope he can get it
Piran
I think it's because he's always been more of a sales & radio act, but that's sadly not sufficient anymore when we're in an era that's so reliant on streaming. :/
Piran
I don't think 'Peru' will get to #1 in the charts over here anyway, despite Ed featuring on it! :P
Piran
I think 'Let It Go' has aged better than 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' will though, haha. :)
DamiĂĄn
Yep, I can tell. All my fave artists are from the physical sales and radio airplay era, that's why I can hardly get close to the charts nowadays

packs and potions is awful - not cause of the accent, itâs quite amusing - but because the beat is godawful. itâs really blocky.

Here's a thought. Next week a bunch of songs that got manual resets over Christmas will be back on ACR if they have decreased over these 3 weeks. That means we could be seeing the following songs on ACR - Easy On Me, Coming For You, Better Days, Alone With You, Tell Me Something Good, I Wish, Enemy, All Too Well and probably a lot more. This means the Top 40 (especially the bottom half) will be extremely different.
Piran
I'm genuinely curious to check out 'Encanto' given how well the songs from it are doing in the charts!
To those of you who've watched it, would you recommend going to see it?
Other than that, I'm really hoping to see 'Where Are You Now' in the Top 10 next week! đ

AT
Andrew Tomlinson
Jim Steinman wrote it for Meat Loaf, but he felt it was more suited to a woman (it was inspired by Wuthering Heights). Meat wanted to use it on their next collaboration, but Celine's manager phoned Jim's asking for him to write a song for her, and they cut a deal for her to do "It's All Coming Back...". after Pandoras Box had originally made their version. Meat was a bit , Jim had always considered it a woman's song, but Meat felt it was a duet. He eventually recorded it himself as a duet with Marion Raven.
It;s very good.
DamiĂĄn
Thanks for the nice story behind the song Andy! Loved it. It fits so much better on Celine's voice imo
