What happened Marina's Purge the Poison? It's her best song in years 😯

T

Marina is great. Loved Radioactive. Such a great driving tune.

I love Radioactive too. Great dance song so. So is Living Dead and Power and Control.

T

TruthHurts

-1

Niall there are so many great tunes from Marina. Was quite disappointed by the second half of the last album though. Orange Trees was quite nice. But Valley of The Dolls is a great tune. You inspired me to dig out some of the older stuff. Cheers for that!

Lol. I got down-voted by some girl who didn't understand the comment because she obviously isn't old enough to actually drive a car that isn't made by Fisher Price. Ha ha ha ha

Looking at this weeks Top 5 “widget” got me thinking…
Has anyone else noticed that short song titles are becoming a thing at moment?
The Top 10 titles being in 21 words, or 16 if you exclude out #1’s brackets “( )”.

Hey, OCC, is that another record?

avatar

Ireneusz Chmielewski

2

Only 3 new entries in the Top 100? What happened to the new singles released last Friday of such well-known artists as 3Oh3, Armin Van Buuren, Cash Cash, Gorgon City, Jorja Smith, Katy Perry, Lawson, Shif K3Y or the Veronicas? All of them had Top 10 singles in the past. In my opinion the problem is that many of old singles are still present in the Chart like the songs of the Killers or Fleetwood Mac blocking the new entries.

avatar

⁉️

2

This is one I haven’t seen before. :O

I kinda agree, although most of those artists are quite irrelevant now (especially 30H!3, most of their stuff is awful).

"Heat Waves" & "Kiss Me More" Climbed and inspite of everything, "Martin & Gina" is still peaking

‘Body’ going Top 5 this week certainly surprised me, but I’m not exactly complaining about it either!

Sure, it’s not the kind of rap song that I would normally get behind, there’s just something about Russ’ & Tion’s energetic chemistry that works so well here. :)

avatar

GS

1

definitely wasnt expecting body to hit the top 5, but im glad it did

avatar

Piran

6

‘Anywhere Away From Here’ making a return to the Top 40 so soon is amazing to see!

It might not be getting much streaming at all right now, but it continues to be really massive on sales & airplay.

Very powerful duet! :D

avatar

Ian Robert Herechuk

2

I predicted a bounce back, but didn't expect it to be that quick. Am hopeful now it will make Top 20

avatar

Piran

1

It’s the kind of song that I could see being used in a lot of trailers for popular TV series, as well as getting massive promotion on the radio. :)

avatar

Piran

8

This week’s chart gives us a big example of why ACR doesn’t work!

The rule is meant to knock older songs down the charts, yet ‘Save Your Tears’ rebounded a place despite being placed on ACR this week! Sure, I know that it got a remix with Ariana, but it really should’ve been inside the Top 5 today, or the Top 10 at the very least, when you look at how it performed in comparison with other songs in the chart in terms of combined sales.

I’m also kind of annoyed that Ariana didn’t get credited (since I think that the remix is even better than the original), but that honestly doesn’t surprise me either! :P

avatar

Marcothedonjuan

3

I don't like recurrent and ACR rules on Billboard and UK Official Chart. Songs should be allowed to shine until they fade by lack of public interest. Billboard will remove the song literally from the chart. Like kick it off.... Lol

avatar

Piran

3

I can understand with Billboard's recurrent rules, since the songs are minor hits by the time that they fall off the chart & they've already peaked in performance in almost 100% of cases, but ACR can kill off songs that are already among the most popular songs in the Official Chart for that week. :/

avatar

Marcothedonjuan

3

True :(

But sometimes I have never heard certain songs when they peaked. And might enjoy them for the first time they so kindly got kicked off... Lol

avatar

Piran

3

Yeah, I'd rather have songs stick around in the Top 40 for months on end than ACR for the three songs rules! :P

avatar

Marcothedonjuan

2

So is it best for songs not to chart until they get released as singles with ACR? How do you get multiple No. 1 's on a popular streamed album? ACR seems to discourage that. Do it quickly or times up?

avatar

Piran

3

Songs won't be placed on ACR until they've charted for 10 weeks & declined in performance for three consecutive weeks, so I don't think that'll work anyway! :P

At least it caused a solid 0/10 song ('Don't Play') to fall this week though, haha.

avatar

Marcothedonjuan

2

So after 10 weeks if the song isn't declining... It's still OK?

avatar

Piran

3

Yeah, then it stays off ACR. :)

K

Kiesling

3

I actually really enjoyed this chart. No song fell ridiculously except for"Don't Play". All the good songs climbed and the popular songs retained their spots or climbed as well.

avatar

wendellcharlesblackett

0

Sorry but good gracious need for it to be more knocking old songs off No song should be on a whole year.

avatar

Marcothedonjuan

2

Thanks Piran. 😎

avatar

Blank

2

Does Save Your Tears come back off ACR now that it's climbed?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's being reset this week. :)

avatar

Piran

1

You're welcome! See you on the Hot 100 article tonight. :)

avatar

Piran

1

I'd rather have a stagnant chart than an inaccurate one, to be honest. :/

avatar

Piran

2

I hate 'Don't Play' so much, but even with the massive drop for it this week, I still don't agree with the whole idea of ACR. :/

K

Kiesling

2

Yeah the song has aged badly, even though it was just released this year. If ACR wasn't here, some good songs would've still been in the top 40.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I just found it mediocre at first, but now it's my least favourite song of the entire decade so far! :O

K

Kiesling

2

The decade just began so let's not jump to conclusions... Yet

Oh, sure, that's why I said "so far", haha. :)

Yeah, there are actually a reasonable amount of Nigerians in the UK. They won't say anything but Dele Alli is Nigerian :P

K

Kiesling

2

You see they used to allow Nigerians to travel to UK for free those days without a Visa but then the whole Visa thing came in and a lot of Nigerians stayed behind. I even have cousins living in London

K

Kiesling

2

I mean living in Africa isn't bad but everyday I feel like we're being screwed constantly :P

avatar

Piran

1

I really like the African culture, but yeah, I'm really sorry about the political side of things out there. :/

avatar

Piran

1

Oh yeah, Visas make it so hard to get anywhere, even before this pandemic made things even more difficult. :/

avatar

Piran

1

Oh wow, I didn't know that! :O

That's my fun fact for the day, haha.

K

Kiesling

2

Thanks and the politics are just on the surface. There's also corruption and insecurity. The whole thing is kinda a mess :/

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I've heard about how bad the corruption is out there! Do you live a populated city or a less dense rural area then? :)

K

Kiesling

2

I actually live in a more populated city but it isn't my home town. Living in rural areas is actually more peaceful 😌

avatar

Piran

1

Funnily enough, I live in the countryside with family whenever I get to go home, but I live in a very big city for work! :P

K

Kiesling

2

Sounds stressful :/

It's not too bad actually! It's in a relatively quiet part of the city, haha. :)

K

2

Oh OK. In London ??

No, I'm actually in Bristol. :)

K

K
