Uh oh, it seems to be an all-male top 5 this week, especially with the hip-hop songs that are male dominated. That's gonna have to change ASAP.

Hey guys, here's a not so brief review of the Chart
I was really hoping that "Blinding lights" will
be number 1 this week but Lewis Capaldi held it down. Both Tracks got significant boosts due to the release of their official music videos, both of which I really like by the way. It's quite impressive to see Burna Boy having his Fourth appearance in the Top 20
Now for the new entries
#11. Play play - J Hus feat. Burna Boy. It's really great to see J Hus back in the Charts. I really like the Reggae-dancehall inspired beat of this track, it's not too heavy and not too light also. Lyrically, J Hus talks about his experiences with the different girls he's into, burna Boy also gives an interesting hook to it. Not bad at all, really hope it sticks around for a while. (8/10)
#19. Big Conspiracy - J Hus ft. Iceè Tgm. This is a good track with a classic R&B inspired beat. In this J Hus talks about people who judge him and suppress him, he made reference to Donnie, a guy he tweeted some things about, apparently they have a big Conspiracy against him. Iceè Tgm is speculated to be J Hus' Sister but none of them have confirmed but anyway her vocals fit well in to this and I'll like to see music from her. It's a good song generally (8/10)
#21. Repeat - J Hus feat. Koffee. This is one very good song off the album. The song has an upbeat vibe and it sits well with the content. Just talking about the money that's coming, celebrating and being thankful. Love it (8/10)
#30. Ode To Joy - André Rieu. Generally, ode to Joy is my favourite orchestral song all time. Well this is here because of Brexit. The song got the boost it got this week due to the anti-brexit movement yet the song remains pleasant and I'm really glad to see it in the chart, in fact I'm glad to see a classical song in general make the chart, not to start a frenzy or anything but as a remainer, I even more glad 10/10
#32. Pee Pee - M Huncho. The track is fair enough. Nice production. Lyrically, it's just blah blah but at least it has a groove. I like it but I'll get sick of it soon (6/10)Trust me, it's the best from him so far.
#40. Roses - Saint Jhn. I would have been mad at the UK if this didn't get to the 40 but here it is. Yay!! So the major push for this song globally is the "Imanbek remix" which has been quite popular for a while now in Eastern Europe. It's has a massive EDM groove which I really like. The original version on the other hand has an eerie like production that goes well with the lyrics but it's quite boring. Speaking of lyrics, it's a pretty much a $£>< song, do it raw and he won't tell anyone apparently. Not bad for me (8/10 - Imanbek remix, 4/10 - Original)
Thanks for reading.

Congratulations on, I think, a legit leader for the first time this year. It looks like it was by a razor's margin, since Before You Go was at 65k units, #10's 34.5k, and Dance Monkey's only down to #12, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt considering the metric imbalance and no third-party report confirming.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
'Before You Go' becomes Lewis Capaldi’s second #1 single! It accumulated 66,000 combined sales over the past week (13,000 of which were from physical copies of the song).
‘Blinding Lights’ might’ve missed out this week, but it does tie ‘Starboy’ for The Weeknd’s highest charting song to date!
‘Blinding Lights’ also becomes the new #1 on the national airplay chart! ‘What A Man Gotta Do’ by the Jonas Brothers is by far the biggest climber on the radio this week (34-3).
‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones & I was the most watched song on YouTube for a 15th non-consecutive week (-5,3%, 3.07 million). Elsewhere in the Top 10, there are debuts for DigDat & Aitch with ‘Ei8ht Mile’ (#2, 1.85 million) & Eminem with ‘Godzilla’ (#3, 1.48 million) & ‘Darkness’ (#7, 1.28 million). There’s also a big gain for ‘Blinding Lights’ following its official video (33-9, 1.04 million).
J HUS FT BURNA BOY - PLAY PLAY (#11)
So since there are a lot of debuts from mostly either albums or Brexit this week, I’ll keep the reviews fairly brief this time round. As for this, yeah, I can definitely see why it’s the standout track from the album! J Hus’ delivery might be a bit rough for my liking, as I’ve always liked his smoother flow, which is probably why Burna Boy’s hook really connected with me here. On top of that, the reggae-inspired beat kind of gives this a cool enough vibe to serenade a lot of J Hus’ previous crushes that he mentioned in the lyrics & what makes this work even better is that he seems to be more cheeky rather than disrespectful towards them here! I think the song runs a bit too slow for me to like a lot, but it’s still pleasant nonetheless. Light 7/10!
J HUS FT ICEE TGM - BIG CONSPIRACY (#19)
Speaking of a “big conspiracy”, while Icee TGM might not be a familiar name to any of you, fans are spectulating that it might actually be J Hus’ sister! In fact, I can see why, since it’s immediately clear that both J Hus & Icee TGM have a lot of chemistry here & play off each other incredibly well. Since that’s not confirmed yet, I can only really say that Icee TGM is a new & upcoming R&B artist who’s probably most comparable to Jorja Smith from what I’ve heard here! In fact, I really love her vocals here & while J Hus definitely takes a softer touch here, his vocals can get a bit nasally at points! I’m also not sold on the muffled guitars that open the song, but when the beat hits all of a sudden & you get those trumpets closing things out, you realise that this could have a shot at being a successful future single. I might even enjoy this more than ‘Play Play’, so I’m giving this a solid 7/10!
J HUS FT KOFFEE - REPEAT (#21)
Okay, what I said over on the singles chart article was very wrong indeed, because J Hus has genuinely got me interested in the rest of his album & this improves things even further! J Hus hasn’t sounded this relaxed in ages, while Koffee is super addictive throughout, as she goes for a flow similar to what we’d hear from Stefflon Don, only far better. That said, what’s really selling this for me is the sparkly production that runs from start to finish, even if I do think we’re missing a bridge & third verse, but with what we’ve got, yeah, J Hus completely surpassed any expectations I had for him this week! Maybe I will love this new era of his after all. Light 8/10 for this one!
ANDRE RIEU & JOHANN STRAUSS ORCHESTRA - ODE TO JOY (#30, Best Of The Week)
Hmm… well, this is going to be an awkward one to talk about, given what's due to happen to the UK later this evening! Anyway, if you’re wondering why this song in particular is here, it’s because it’s been taken on as an anti-Brexit anthem & as more older people voted “Remain”, it became the most downloaded song of the week. As I’ve stated before, I’m keeping my political views impartial on a music forum, but wow… looking beyond that & analysing this as a song, it’s just beautiful! The suspense is immediately set with those sustained strings, along with the skittering drums that creep up faintly in the background, along with a flawless harmony between all voice classes here, although it’s really the tenors that stand out to me, at least until about the three minute mark where the sopranos just belt it out & that insane whistle note when the song reaches it’s inevitable climax! I’m not sure how I feel about the horn section in the introduction to drop out again shortly after which nothing that I remembered later on, but I truly felt some incredible passion here (especially in the conducting) & this also gave me the opportunity to review classical music, which is something I’ve always wanted to share with you guys. For me, again, politics aside, it’s the highlight of the week for me among the new entries! I’m thinking a light 9/10.
M HUNCHO - PEE PEE (#32, Worst Of The Week)
Despite this being lower down in the chart, I honestly reviewed it first, because I just wanted to get any song by M Huncho out of the way fast! Okay, I’ll give him this, despite the incredibly embarassing title, ‘Pee Pee’ is nowhere near on the level of awful that ‘Thumb’ was. Honestly, given the mixing around M Huncho’s vocals & the wavey melody at the end of the first verse as the production drops out actually gave this the potential to be a passable song… until you take on board what he’s actually saying! I have to hope lines like “Order my wrist, order my $hit, order my tea” or “When I bust my nut, I go & take a pee pee” are just jokes for the sake of people laughing with him instead of at him, especially when he tries to squeal in the last two syllables in the hook. That said, when you’re stuck with the $exual innuendos that plagued so much of it’s predecessor, yeah, I just think he’s a generally immature guy & this isn’t “funny” at all! Maybe when he actually grows up, he’ll have a song that I can at least tolerate, but no, until then, I don’t care! Light 4/10.
SAINt JHN - ROSES [IMANBEK REMIX] (#40)
I’m feeling two kinds of emotions seeing this here! The first is confusion, given how I first heard this back in October when it entered the Top 10 of the global Shazam charts, so why it is only charting now? That being said, the second is joy, since I adore this remix so much! In order to explain that, I think I need to talk about the original first; a terribly boring dreck where SAINt JHN’s vocals were too distorted to have any impact & a beat that was almost put you to sleep by the time you reached the end of the song. However, the remix from Kazakh DJ/producer Imanbek fixes all of those problems in just the first few seconds, where SAINt JHN sounds so much more energetic & convincingly, as his voice is pitched up two whole octaves I believe, along with the tempo becoming much faster to match the hard-hitting drop from Imanbek! I do feel that the bridge is a bit too high by doing this, but since the whole song is about $exual encounters with a girl, it kind of works here. Honestly, while it took a while to grow on me, I’m very happy that Britain are potentially making this the next big dance smash, because it’s awesome! Strong 8/10 from me.
On the albums chart, J Hus earns his first #1 album with ‘Big Conspiracy’! It debuts with 24,000 chart sales, 96% of which coming from streaming.
The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘Music To Be Murdered By’ by Emine (1-2), ‘Hotspot’ by Pet Shop Boys (debuts at #3), ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ by Lewis Capaldi (3-4) & ‘Huncholini The 1st’ by M Huncho (debuts at #5).
Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Only The Young’ by Taylor Swift, ‘Physical’ by Dua Lipa, ‘Lonely’ by Joel Corry, ‘Wake Up Call’ by KSI ft Trippie Redd, ‘Desires’ by Future & Drake, ‘Better Off Without You’ by Becky Hill ft Shift K3Y, ‘Suicidal’ by YNW Melly, ‘Say So’ by Doja Cat, ‘Power Over Me’ by Dermot Kennedy & maybe even more!
Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

Sergej Dordij
Hey Piran!
Again, REALLY wanted "Blinding Lights" to be at the top, but hey "Before You Go" at #1 is fine, as long as "Blinding Lights" reaches #1 someday.
My best of the week is the same as yours, so classical and so perfect, fitting for Brexit. (Still mad about Brexit)
And yeah, my worst of the week is the same as yours too, anything that has "Pee Pee" as a song title is immediately makes it bad.
Great review!
Hoping next week for a high position for "Physical" (heard it for the first time and it could challenge "Blinding Lights" for the #1 spot in my chart)!
Also, little error you said that "Roses" could enter the top 40 for the first time next week, however it did enter the top 40 for the first time this week.
Piran
Hey Sergej! :)
Sorry for the late reply! I know you've had a bit of a mixed week, but I hope you're okay now.
I actually thought 'Blinding Lights' was going to be #1 this week, given that it's top on the radio, got an official video (as did 'Before You Go' though), has massive sales & growing fast on streaming, but I guess 'Before You Go' was just more stable throughout the tracking week across all metrics!
Obviously, with a 52% Leave/48% Remain vote over here back in 2016 & that the whole Brexit situation has changed a lot since then, the news is getting a very mixed response over here.
I'm glad we have the same best & worst of the week, along with us potentially having mutual #1s for a third consecutive week, since 'Physical' is highly likely to enter at #1 on my next chart with the biggest debut of 2020 so far!
Oh yeah, thanks for letting me know about that. I've corrected it now, haha! I usually do that part first as I don't have to wait for the full chart to update before I enter that part in, but I should probably wait until I review everything now.
David N'jama
Nice review piran.
I don't mind Before you go being number 1 but do you think Blinding lights will have a shot next week?

Do you think Grace Davies has a chance of charging with her new single invisible it’s a great song
Damián
I didn't know Grace had launched a new single?? Woww, I'm going to check it out!

I haven't seen it become big anywhere enough for it to chart well unfortunately, but I'll still keep an eye out for it!

Thanks David! :)
It would appear that way...

disappointed ...i was expected Weeknd at no1. this year is gonna be full of new 80s and hopefully we re gonna hear more of this sound in the next months

i would have liked to see BILLIE at number 1 this week after her amazing winning gongs at the Grammys...I am happy LEWIS is getting a second number 1 but still would have preferred DERMOT KENNEDY to get the top spot.
Piran
You've got to admit, whether or not you like his music, Lewis Capaldi is such a funny guy;

Piran
To quote Shawn Li from the other singles chart article;
"Before EU go?"
Piran
Aw man... I won't lie, I'm a bit disappointed with the #1 race this week.
I mean, 'Before You Go' is still a good song, but that means 'Blinding Lights' could get blocked from getting there, which it really doesn't deserve. In fact, I'd upgrade my rating for the latter to a 10/10 & it's very likely to become one of my favourite songs of 2020 at this point!
That being said, I do feel like 'Before You Go' is an appropriate title for the country's #1 song in the same night that the UK leaves the EU.
Speaking of which, I still need to hear both Brexit songs, although I really love 'Everything I Wanted' returning to the Top 10 & 'Roses' finally getting mainstream success!
I can't comment on the J Hus & M Huncho tracks yet, but I sadly don't think either are going to impress me much! Still, I'll post my full review a little later this evening as usual. :)
bartbart2003
I'm happy with Lewis Capaldi being at #1. I think he deserves it, even though I would prefer "Blinding Lights" on that spot.
Why is "Someone You Loved" still in the top 10??? It's been around for way too long in my opinion.
I didn't think "Roses" would become popular in the UK, but it's getting higher and higher in the charts, so that's a surprise for me. I hope more similar songs won't get big there though, because on Polish radio there are sooo many songs in that same style (I don't know how to describe it, listen to "Stars" by Vize or "Outta My Head" by THRDL!FE & Sleepwalkrs) playing on the radio and it's getting really annoying.
Also, "Baby Shark" is going higher...
MH
Mark Hudson
Another one week wonder I reckon. Dua Lipa new single is ace
Ten weeks for that I reckon.
Piran
'Before You Go' is just a version of 'Someone You Loved' I like a little less to be honest, but given how much I enjoyed the latter, the former is still really good.
That being said, 'Someone You Loved' is getting so overplayed, but consistent streaming & the fact that it was recently taken off ACR has kept it in the Top 10 this long. I think it'll be back out soon, but not falling too fast either!
'Roses' becoming a hit here doesn't surprise me too much, but it's more how long it took to impact our charts.
Yeah, why is 'Baby Shark' getting a rebound all of a sudden? Also, the re-entry for 'Perfect' is a little random too!
bartbart2003
Also, why is Baby Shark generally higher in the mid-week charts than the Friday ones? Smaller sample size I guess (?).
Piran
I guess it's because 'Baby Shark' tends to do better on YouTube than anywhere else.
Also, I'm not sure how this affects 'Baby Shark'. but mid-week updates are based a lot more on sales than streaming!
R
riley
I do disagree there piran! With the Brit awards incoming I don’t think someone you loved in going anywhere anytime soon! That will make all of Capaldis songs jump back up. He could quite easily have 4 songs in the top 20 right now if HMWYW wasn’t stopped by the 3 songs rule. This is chart dominance to another level as even Ed SHEERAN didn’t sustain this level for this song!
Very strange chart tho how baby shark is climbing
Glad to see how dance music seems to be on the rise. One night by MK is starting to rise if that could hit the top 40 I would be over the moon! (Give that a listen if u ain’t yet)
Agree with how good it is seeing roses in the top 40 aswell!
And as we said during our discussion on Sunday, another week now where lose control is in the top 20! 5 months for it now :D
Inevio
"Before You Go" got a bump from the video and the physical units so I imagine "Blinding Lights" will have a shot next week. Hopefully it can avoid ACR long enough to get a week in.
SH
Scott Harris
I personally don't like 'Roses', I think it's pretty boring.
Piran
The original or the remix?
Piran
It looks that way after all, since 'Blinding Lights' is #1 in the "First Look" update.
That's awesome news! :D
Piran
It could be the case where 'Someone You Loved' goes on ACR, then comes off it after the BRITs! :D
I think Lewis Capaldi would want to promote 'Before You Go' more though, since 'Someone You Loved' is like over a year old now, unless he does a melody or something.
