iTunes is shutting down in the next few weeks and being merged in to a brand new Music app from Apple. It'll tie in well with Apple Music and provide both download and streaming services alike Tidal. It will be very interesting to see the impact of iTunes shutting down.
What's even more interesting, is that one of the main competitors for the Official Charts (the Vodafone Big Top 40) relies completely on iTunes and Apple Music to provide for their charts, and with only 15% radio airplay in their algorithm.

Music downloads wont be touched, music downloads will remain.
http://www.metalsucks.net/2019/05/31/apple-is-discontinuing-itunes/
The Music app replaced iTunes
on iPads and iPhones some time ago, and that app will now be unrolled
on desktops along with separate TV and Podcasts apps to replace all of
the functions that iTunes had been serving. Users
will be able to access all of their downloaded audio files through the
Music app and paid downloads will still be available. A report
that surfaced last year claiming Apple would stop selling music entirely
on March 31st of this year proved to be untrue.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always...
- 'I Don't Care' by Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber remains at #1 on the singles chart for a third week in a row. It accumulated 83,500 combined sales this week (including 10.9 million streams). However, that's only 1,300 combined sales ahead of its nearest competitor!
- 'Me!' by Taylor Swift ft Brendon Urie spends its third non-consecutive week atop the national airplay chart.
- 'Old Town Road [Remix]' by Lil Nas X ft Billy Ray Cyrus dominates Britain's YouTube chart for a sixth week in total. The release of the official video for the remix version gives it an 86.4% boost to a massive 7.01 million weekly views!
- ED SHEERAN FT CHANCE THE RAPPER & PNB ROCK - CROSS ME (#9)
I'd been wondering when Ed was going to back to his urban side for a while now & with the second single for his upcoming collaborations project, it looks like that finally happened! Unfortunately though, while it's still okay, it doesn't hold up to the original to be honest. While many critics have called out the production here, I actually like the bubbly beat & groovy bass, while Ed & Chance continue to have enough charisma to carry this into an entertaining enough tune. That said, I really don't like how the lyrics come across as so over-protective to the point where the trio seem rather clingy? Also, PnB Rock opening the song so monotonously doesn't exactly give a strong first impression, even if his vocals are actually sampled from a freestyle. Overall, there's a lot of potential here, but sadly, it's only partly fulfilled. As such, strong 6/10!
- NSG - OT BOP (#17)
It might've taken literally a few weeks, maybe even a couple of months, but despite a negative review for 'Options' when it charted here, I think it's alright now. I've got to hope this new song of theirs can also grow on me slightly, because right now, I'm just not interested. Okay, one thing I can give NSG credit for is that despite having six members, their songs never feel like they're too long... just a shame that nobody outside of maybe Kruddz on the hook sounds like they care at all here! Yes, the hook is groovy, the content is somewhat playful, but the production from 4Play & JAE5 has seriously gone downhill here compared to their last hit! Again, I'm not ruling out the possibility that I can eventually see the appeal to this, but right now, it adds nothing I care about to the British rap scene. 4/10.
- YOUNG THUG FT J COLE & TRAVIS SCOTT - THE LONDON (#18)
This is one of those few songs where I didn't know what to expect going in & I'm also not sure how I feel coming out for it either. I was particularly impressed with how grounded Young Thug is while also switching up his flows with ease, even if he wailing in the second verse is also very off-putting. As for his collaborators, well Travis Scott sounds the same as always with excessive yet not annoying auto-tune, but J Cole appears to be really focused & motivated here, which might've worked better if the content actually stood out (which it doesn't!). I do at least like the blend of the gentle whistle over the trap beat, so for that, I'm thinking a very light 6/10.
- 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER - EASIER (#29)
Despite me going on a short holiday earlier this week, I've just been very behind on catching up with a lot of new music lately. However, this 5SOS comeback was definitely near the top of the list for songs to check out when I got back & I'm certainly pleased with this one! I love the general '80s pop-rock throwback vibe, Luke Hemmings has a gentle & fun falsetto, but it also shows the mature side of the group once again. It's clear that the relationship they're involved in is toxic & they accept that if things can't change, it'd be easier both of them to go they're separate ways. Yeah, it's also clear that they're going for another big pop radio smash with how safe it is, but that's also how you get a song with a dark subject matter to be accessible. Yeah, like I said, I'm happy these boys are back! Strong 7/10 at the moment.
- JESS GLYNNE & JAX JONES - ONE TOUCH (#31)
I was expecting this to enter the chart a lot higher this week to be honest, given how much traction Jax Jones has been getting as a DJ recently & Jess Glynne has just been smashing records over the past few years. That said, what I'd take more is that the song is actually mostly good! Jess knows how to sound full of life in songs that capture that moment of excitement of love & when you combine that alongside the piano line & warm build-up from Jax (who's really grown on me a lot lately!), you get a song that I could totally see being an early summer smash & it's one that'll be on my playlist too! For me, this is a strong 8/10 for now.
- SIGALA & BECKY HILL - WISH YOU WELL (#39)
I guess it's fitting that as summer approaches, Sigala finally gets another hit despite falling a bit short recently & yes, I do think this'll climb in the coming weeks. Although, like the last song I reviewed, I could see this getting played in a ton of places going into June! Sigala has more of a knack for a piano melody here, but that's more down to the chords rather than the individual notes. Becky Hill also brings even more passion than Jess Glynne this time & since the latter is one of my favourite singers of the decade, that's really showing how much I'm getting into this song! It doesn't stand out when I look back at the rest of the summer anthems Sigala has released, but that still doesn't mean it's awesome. Strong 8/10 for this too!
- On the albums chart, Lewis Capaldi spends a second consecutive week at #1 with 'Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent'. His debut album is still outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined!
- Speaking of which, the rest of the Top 5 this week is: 'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?' by Billie Eilish (stationary at #2), 'The Greatest Showman' [Soundtrack] (7-3), 'California Son' by Morrissey (debuts at #4) & 'Rocketman' [Soundtrack] (debuts at #5).
- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: 'Never Really Over' by Katy Perry, 'Let You' by Cheryl, 'Shine Girl' by Mostack ft Stormzy, 'Press' by Cardi B, 'Find U Again' by Mark Ronson ft Camila Cabello, 'Ritual' by Tiesto, Jonas Blue & Rita Ora, 'Bruises' by Lewis Capaldi, 'Truth Hurts' by Lizzo, 'What Do You Mean?' by Skepta ft J Hus & maybe even more.
- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

Love seeing your input on the chart as per usual! I'm certainly looking forward to some of those new entries in the chart next week. I'll check out your Crownnote chart as soon as it comes out. Have a nice weekend!

Hey Piran! It's definitely good to see 'I Don't Care' spend a 3rd week at #1, though it was an extremely close race this week! As you said in your other reply to me, the new acoustic version could be enough to save it for a 4th week at #1 (I actually like the acoustic version more than the original), but personally I think it'll be another close race with 'Old Town Road' ending up on top. Other than that, I love that Ed gets his 23rd Top 10 hit, and I'm surprised (but happy) that 'Location' hasn't been put on ACR yet, letting it get a 12th consecutive week in the Top 12 now! At this point it's actually holding out better than 'Funky Friday'.
As for the debuts, I don't think it'll really be much of a surprise that 'Cross Me' is my favourite. I really like the return of urban Ed, showing that he continues to have an extremely wide musical range. PnB is definitely the weakest part of the track, but even his parts grew on me after quite a few listens, as did the entire track. Strong 9/10 from me. Conversely, 'OT Bop' is by far my least favourite track of the week, with a light 5/10 at best from me. 'The London' is far better in my opinion, and another track that grew on me a lot with subsequent listens, so I'd now give it a strong 8/10 - light 9/10. 'Easier' would be a solid 7/10, while 'One Touch' and 'Wish You Well' would both be strong 7/10s. Overall, a very strong week for debuts, even if 'Isis', which I'd give a light 9/10, did get stuck at #42.
Next week 'What Do You Mean?' looks like it'll definitely be the highest debut, #9 on Spotify and #8 on Apple Music, while Skepta himself looks very likely to have 3 Top 40 entries with it, 'Greaze Mode' and then either 'Redrum' or 'Bullet From A Gun'. He should get a Top 5 album as well, and may even have a shot at #1. 'Shine Girl' also looks very likely to debut, as do 'Never Really Over' and potentially 'Mother's Daughter' as well. Sadly, 'Find U Again' is only a maybe at this point. It did manage a #32 debut on Spotify, but it's only at #79 on Apple Music and #40 and falling on iTunes (which actually shuts down fairly soon). At least 'Wish You Well' looks pretty likely to climb. I think 'Press' also has a slim chance of making the Top 40, though it doesn't look super likely.
Piran
Hey Gameskiller! :)
So for the most part, we mostly agree on this week's debuts, except you appear to like 'Cross Me' & 'The London' a lot more than I did.
I always find it interesting that UK urban acts usually get the biggest success on the singles chart, although lose out on the #1 album (unless they're Stormzy or Dave).
Between: 'Never Really Over', 'Mother's Daughter' & 'Find U Again', this past week has been the best one for new music in a while now! I think the latter might miss the Top 40 given how little sales it has now, but it'll have a better chance when Mark's album comes out in just under three weeks. I still think it's cool that I was the one that told you about the Mark Ronson & Camila Cabello collaboration, then it gets released as an official single only a few days later, haha!
Piran
Thanks Ben! :D
Hopefully you had a good weekend too.
I also wanted to ask what day you usually update your Crown Note charts on? Just so I can comment on it quicker that way!
I.B.
I wonder if Cheryl will do it next week.

Oh for goodness sake. Baby Shark has re-enterted the top 100 at #92. When will people ever stop listening to it.
JH
James Hammond
Yeah I agree. That "Babyshark", song is I still don't understand why anyone would listen to that rubbish. Plus it's a kids song and not a normal one.
BJ
Ben Jordan
As of last year, videos now impact the UK Singles Chart. Baby Shark is a viewing fanatic and kids of a young age (of course, to parents' love) enjoy watching the same thing over and over again.
Baby Shark is already the 9th most viewed video on the entirety of YouTube ever worldwide, up there with the likes of pop sensations such as Katy Perry and Taylor Swift.
The constant amount of views add up and impact the Official Chart, though the song has been hit with rules such as the 10 week rule in which streams are halved and the 3 week decrease rule too. In fact, if Baby Shark wasn't hit with those two rules, it could potentially still be Top 40.
Piran
I was definitely expecting a close race for #1 this week, but I think ‘Old Town Road’ might reclaim it next Friday if the remix video for it holds up well enough!
Good to see ‘Cross Me’ debut in the Top 10, along with ‘If I Can’t Have You’ returning to the region.
My usual full review of the chart should be up later today or tomorrow! ;)
Conner Harper
Hoping to see Katy Perry's new hit be number 1 next week, however I'll be happy with a top 5 :)
Piran
Since streaming isn't Katy's strong point, I don't think it'll get #1, but it could very well do decently enough everywhere else to get a Top 10 debut!
Hopefully it will! It's the best thing she's done as a lead artist in years now. :)
