Jess Glynne's "I'll Be There" is #1 in Scotland! Let's hope it makes its way to #1 in the whole UK! "One Kiss" has had its run and it really is time for a new #1.

Receiving good Radio 2 support, We Can Get Better by Matt Simons is the best song going.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

- ‘One Kiss’ by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa is #1 on the singles chart for a seventh consecutive week, allowing it to become the former’s longest #1 of his career.

- ‘One Kiss’ has a 15,000 combined sales & streams lead mainly thanks to Dua Lipa’s performance at the UEFA Champions League Final last Saturday.

- ‘I’ll Be There’ by Jess Glynne becomes the new #1 on the airplay chart.

- ‘Praise Da Lord’ by A$AP Rocky ft Skepta is this week’s highest of the three new entries, entering at #29. While I might not be the biggest fan of either US rap or UK rap, when the two nations meet in this genre in particularly, I’ve always things to get very interesting, so I was certainly intrigued to hear this. It turns out that I can mostly believe the favourable hype for this song among rap critics & grime fans. We get a cool mix of bouncy production & slick lines from both artists, but Skepta sounds better out of the two to me due to how strong his flow is. If anything, the flute melody is slightly irritating & this could’ve done without that, or at least something that blended in with the trap production a little better, but at it is, I don’t mind this, although I don’t think it’ll be a big hit by any means.

- From his upcoming studio album ‘Scorpion’ to be released later this month, ‘I’m Upset’ by Drake debuts at #37. Honestly, I’ve struggled to even care for this new album of his; not because the buzz for it is negative, but because of how overexposed he is & that’s releasing music in general, not just chart performance & these songs might not be bad, but they’re very rarely memorable. Anyway, can ‘I’m Upset’ at least increase my interest in his latest project? Well sadly, no, not in the slightly really! Outside of one particularly charming stretch, the song is above all boring. Drake has gone back into the habit of not switching up his flow which made ‘God’s Plan’ so forgettable to me, but at least the hook there was a little catchy. I think a big reason that this song does nothing for me at all is that the minimalist beat just drones on, but the bigger issue; are we seriously being asked to take a rap song with “I’m upset” being chanted through the chorus seriously? It’s coming off as way less emotional than it’s trying to be & just moody for that matter! It’s not like anyone would be paying much attention to the lyrics either outside of the beef between Drake & Pusha T, which I’m sure a fair few of you have heard of by now. I’m sorry, I tried to give this a chance, but it just became more irritating with every listen for me & the title of the song sums up how I’m feeling about seeing it in the chart.

- The final new arrival of the week is ‘Oh My’ by Dappy ft Ay Em, which makes its chart debut at #39, becoming the former’s first Official Chart appearance in three years. I’ve always wanted to like Dappy way more than I do & even though I can understand his appeal, mainly because he is slightly distinguishable from other grime rappers, there’s something about his rap performance that I just can’t connect with. To his credit though, he’s not only sticking with his flow that’s made him so prominent in the rap industry for years now, but his voice can blend in with the afrobeat production fairly well. What caught my attention was the part from Ay Em, a rising Fulham artist, who clocks in with an awesome melodic style which merges incredibly with the track. I’m not sure how much I’ll remember this, but I see myself coming back to this a couple of times, so good to have Dappy back on the chart I guess!

- On the albums chart, ‘The Greatest Showman’ continues to fend off competition to secure an 18th non-consecutive week at #1. However, it only had a 900 combined sales & streams lead this week.

- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘Wildness’ by Snow Patrol (debuts at #2), Shawn Mendes’ self-titled album (debuts at #3), ‘MTV Unplugged: Live At Roundhouse’ by Biffy Clyro (debuts at #4) & ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ by George Ezra (stationary at #5).

- In other album news, ‘÷’ by Ed Sheeran passes the three million combined sales mark this week, which is a milestone that only 10 other albums have achieved this millennium.

- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Give Yourself A Try’ by The 1975, ‘You Deserve Better’ by James Arthur, ‘Rise’ by Jonas Blue ft Jack & Jack, ‘Girls Like You’ by Maroon 5 ft Cardi B, 'Lovely' by Billie Eilish & Khalid, 'Youngblood' by 5 Seconds Of Summer, 'High Five' by Sigrid, 'Nevermind' by Dennis Lloyd & maybe even more.
