Totally 1000 % agree with you, trade discription I'm sure it has to be renamed the songs chart and not the singles chart if it stays the way it is. It defeats the purpose of releasing a single, just release albums and people can download or buy tracks off of it. Preferably do as you suggested though, they have to stop non singles qualifying

Due to the way its compiled, The Singles Chart is meaningless these days. What a shame. It used to be a much anticipated thing

Alright, I'm officially bored of One Dance at number 1 now. As much as it deserves to have more weeks at number 1 than 7 Years, it does NOT and I repeat NOT deserve to tie Uptown Funk.

7 years is a great tune as is uptown funk, but yep one dance doesnt deserve to be number 1 its awful

The rival chart - Big Top 40 - has Stone Roses new song at number 11. It's dropped out of the official chart top 100. Interesting comparing the two charts. The rival chart has Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop The Feeling at number 1.

Congratulations to Drake for a seventh week at #1 with 'One Dance'. It now ties 'Uptown Funk's record for the longest #1 single of the decade so far! :) It's one of my favourite singles from him & also good to see 'Too Good' & 'Controlla' climbing as well.
Great job to Ariana Grande for 'Dangerous Woman' entering the albums chart at #1 & all of the 3 new entries in the Top 40 singles chart are all really good ones.

I hope that Hair will break the top 10, New Girl top 20 and IKWYDLS top 40.

I don't think new girl will get In the top twenty, it will probably exit the top 40 next week.

new girl doesn't have an official video yet, and they've only done one TV performance. it still has every chance.

I agree with the last one, it's not great but it at least deserves to hit the 40.

I'm not a fan of the Stone Roses but it was good to see a proper band who could play instruments in the Top 100 last week. This week they've dropped out of the Top 100 completely and dropped from 5 to 72 in the salews chart, while all this dance is staying in the charts for months. Somethings not right

Including streaming has killed the chart.

I agree but it could easily be resolved if they made the sales chart the principle one.

Streaming is really popular at the moment

10 non movers within the top 25.something that stagnant always stinks.

They need to include streaming - BUT only include songs that have officially been released as singles, You never had every song from an album chart before streaming......I thought that was the point of having an album chart.

S

Sim

then again, if song 1 sells better and steams better than single 1, surely it would be unfair not to put that song on the chart? There are many popular songs, not singles that would be kept off the charts despite being popular. it's unfair to not chart them, because then it's not a real portrayal of how popular each song is. it's a fake chart.

PB

Paul Barr

2

Possibly - but it would be a case of bad luck by choosing the wrong single from the album, it happened in the past, does that mean all charts pre-internet are all fake? Popular albums that have 8-10 songs on the chart are also stopping new talent getting a hit - and in turn being dropped for "failing"

S

Sim

-1

huh? pre-internet streaming did not exist. so everything was based on sales. you could buy a single or the whole album, so before the internet it was IMPOSSIBLE for a song on an album to sell on it's own, lmao. you're argument is invalid. no, the charts weren't fake, because back then airplay wasn't huge and streaming, non-existent. now with modern times, it should be fair that any song can blow up. look at drakes too good. it has strong sales and strong streaming - why should it be kept off the charts if it's doing better than some 'single'?

PB

What I meant was someone playing an album track to death on CD, or cassette, or LP, or wax cylinder....like someone streaming a song. For example what if Madonna's Pretender was HUGE in 1985 - everyone was playing it far more than Material Girl or Baby Be Mine from Michael Jackson's Thriller.

S

Sim

1

well that kind of thing still happens today. someone buys the album in CD or download and streams it offline. they bought the entire album therefore contributing to the albums chart. i'm talking about people today buying/streaming only two or three songs from the album.

"They need to include streaming - BUT only include songs that have officially been released as singles, You never had every song from an album chart before streaming......I thought that was the point of having an album chart."

Yep, makes sense, Paul. Can't imagine anyone disagreeing with your suggestion. :)

Seven weeks at number one and I've still never heard it or met anyone who's ever heard it or even OF it. Who is buying this stuff???

avatar

Noone, it's all coming from streams :(

avatar

it's generally believed that people are streaming it to hear what it sounds like or forgetting it and streaming it again, this appears to be a fault with streaming, easily forgettable songs getting streamed a few times as people forget what they sound like.

Not quite all of it. It's number 3 on sales alone
