Ere are, I like Dina Carroll's new single we bring the party is wot iss called, she's a great british singer.

Rihanna's new song is awful. Sorry to be harsh but it's utter poopsville USA!
Paul Anthony Searle
couldn't agree with you more!

Why are twenty one pilots not number 1?
Paul Anthony Searle
because believe it or not they are still relatively un heard ofs in this country
I Am A Stegosaurus
Alright, I know I'm late, but since that gay 7 Years song is number 1 AGAIN here are the top 5 artists that NEED a number 1 single this year:
5: Avicii. His latest songs have been pretty bad, not to mention the de-success of Stories. He needs to release a good song and make it his next number 1 hit.
4: Maroon 5. They have also slipped off track with that 'This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like'... I'm not gonna say the rest. Sure Sugar was a hit but it only hit 7. Considering they've only had 1 number 1 single (that's NOT Moves Like Jagger), hopefully they can change that.
3: John Newman. He's already had 3 no.1's, which is impressive for someone not particularly well-known. After that dreadful week where Tiring Game was set to hit the 60's but completely missed the top 100, let's all hope he does better in 2016.
2: Olly Murs. Though the likes of Up and Kiss Me were hits last year, Seasons deserved MUCH, MUCH better. He's not had a number 1 since late 2012 with Troublemaker and although 4's smooth, he needs MORE!
1: JESS GLYNNE. Sure, she had loads last year and the year before but surely I'm not the only one who wants to see Cheryl's record in the dust. Ain't Got Far to Go has a lot of chance of dethroning 7 Years, as does Tinie Tempah's new song, considering his last 4 consecutive songs or something hit 1.
Official Charts
Hi 3POP, thanks for your mostly passionate contributions to the site, but please watch your language and tone - we're regularly having to moderate your posts. Keep it friendly :)
Paul Anthony Searle
Yes I agree and what is supposed to be gay about 7 Years? As a gay man myself i find your comment 3POP rather offending. There's nothing gay about the song at all it's extremely popular and selling and so deserves it's chart position.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Well, it's horrible, overrated, everyone's obsessed with it for some fricking weird reason, Lukas Graham needs autotune and did not deserve its 3+ weeks at number 1.
Willing to bet you only read the first line of my comment too.
Zoltán Oskovits
I read the whole of your comment, and I must say, I don't see why you're suggesting that these artists "need a Number 1". First of all, the chart is not compiled according to requests or wishes. These are songs people in the UK are buying and streaming. It is no way a one-person's favourites list. The reason I love the UK Charts is that it's the most versatile and features various genres.
Also, what you're writing about Lukas Graham as an explanation for your first comment (when you used the word "gay" as a derogatory term) is completely offensive and should also be moderated.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Because I'm saying artists I think deserve a number 1. And that automatically means I assume the charts is based on REQUESTS, isn't it? God.
Paul Anthony Searle
I agree entirely where are the OCC moderators when you need them?
I Am A Stegosaurus
Oh, so it's fine for others to say 'sh*t' and 'd*ck' and even people telling me to choke myself for a difference of opinion, but as soon as I say 'gay', you all get off your rocker. God, some people are SO oversensitive.
Josh Dransfield
You haven't heard him sing it live, he's pretty good.
I Am A Stegosaurus
And if people call One Direction, Justin Bieber and their fans gay no-one gives a bullcrap.
drew
you should come out.
I Am A Stegosaurus
What do you mean?
drew
you are clearly gay
I Am A Stegosaurus
No I'm not. Not everyone in the world is hypocritical.

Anyone remember a song by a female artist, kind of a soft piano whispy song, chorus started with, "come on come on" was played on radio 1 roughly between July and August in 2015.

No new entries for Jimmy Savile's cover of Electronic's "Getting Away With It" nor Stuart Hall's cover of R Kelly's "Bump N Grind."
Oh well, perhaps next week.

you forgot Rolf Harris' Tie Me Little Child Down
Dan Love
This chart has just 4 new entries (7 if you include re-entries). If you can't put up with that, check out the sales chart.

It has 19 new entries/re-entries this week.
Paul Anthony Searle
work work work work work ........this song is so .......
nunzio nigro
679 -Fetty Wap ft. Remy Boyz ,not ft. Monty !!!
Paul Anthony Searle
Fetty Fetty Wap 's single 679 - there are two chart eligible versions of it one featuring Remy Boyz and the other Monty ......i believe OCC give credit to the version selling / streaming the most? Either way it's very forgettable rap with no lasting value. I give him to the end of the year before people then say ' Fetty who? '
nunzio nigro
thank you Paul
I Am A Stegosaurus
True and true.
R
RIME
Monty is credited on the album version as P. Dice's verse was removed in favor of another Fetty Wap one. I'm not sure if the original single version is still up for sale in the UK, and I see only the Monty version on the sales top 100 on iTunes, so it's at least the dominant version at the moment.

Was All Saints' new song ineligible for the chart? Is it likely to chart next week? It's brilliant and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.
polysix
Certainly does deserve to chart, the girls did good and are far more talented than most of these modern girl-bands (all show and no go!)
Stuart Mortimer
9 songs on the chart for over a year now, with another 2 to hit the anniversary next week. The music industry is giving the people what they want, over and over, but is it what we need? And don't just say new acts, we've got them coming out of the kazoo. Few acts are allowed to mature these days with support from the labels. Coldplay are the most established act on the charts. Is this lack of diversity the way it should be?
S
Sachin
Wow, who would've thought the UK chart would stagnate this much. Even the Billboard Hot 100 sees more activity these days.
I don't mind streaming in the charts but perhaps the ratios are too much in its favour to the detriment of new music. The stagnation caused by streaming appears to indicate that British subscribers are:
a) updating their playlists far too infrequently;
b) significantly more conservative with their taste in music;
c) are followers than trend setters; or
d) aren't exposed to enough new music.
Or all of the above.
Simeon Davenport
Yes, on the Billboard Hot 100, they recently changed something to make the favor more in sales than in streams because of how impactful streams are. I think the UK Singles Chart should do something similar as that would move the charts along quicker.
You're always welcome to check out the sales chart: http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-sales-chart/ This is what the chart looks like WITHOUT streams and ONLY including sales.
David Holdstock
Interesting comment, but I'm tempted to say "none of the above." The main reason the chart has stagnated is because today's music is mostly rubbish and boring.
Painmix King
Sort of agree. The stuff in the chart is boring, but there's some good stuff out there
JC
John Crane
There's good stuff but you have to really search beyond the UK/US pop charts. I am getting tired of all the sound alike female bluzak singers (and the male ones for that matter). Perhaps it's just song choices...they have decent voices...but their tunes all sound alike.
R
RIME
To clarify, the reason for the ratio change in the US was because of an analysis by the RIAA, the first done since 2012, which evaluated the revenue delivered to labels on average from streams in the country. Because aggregate streams increased, there are proportionally fewer royalties than 4 years ago as subscribers consume more streams than back then, which means they are somewhat devalued compared to the constant-value (~60 cents, if I recall), if declining, sales format.
Painmix King
In the "Sales Chart" a new entry at No. 74 is "I've gotta be me" by Sammy Davis Junior. Does anyone know why? i'm guessing it must be used in an ad. Anyone got an answer
Paul Anthony Searle
possibly performed on The Voice or from a TV advert ?????
TheInkAndThePaper
It's on an advert for Sky i think.
SH
Scott Harris
So far, not a single female artist has topped the UK singles chart.
I Am A Stegosaurus
You mean this year? Let's hope Jess Glynne does it with 'Ain't Got Far To Go'.
Paul Anthony Searle
Well this has to be a record? Of the 13 New Release Singles listed by OCC last friday NOT ONE has entered the TOP 100!!!! Not even Karen Harding 's (mega plugged by OCC but constant incorrect release dates published) Open My Eyes can dent the 100! Now this really is getting ridiculous. I agree partly with Nicholas' comments BUT the whole point of the weekly chart is to show ' what is popular and selling in the UK ' or at least that's how i interpret it. ' A True reflection of what's popular and selling in the UK' It's certainly good to see climbers climbing progressively week on week like in the good old 80's days of the chart but i strongly agree that the ' hanger around-ers' are indeed clogging up the chart and preventing the aforementioned New Releases from having any chance whatsoever of getting a foothold on the chart. There is a lot of very good music out there but it's not selling or being promoted enough to stand a chance and basically if Radio 1 isn't playing it then it'll never be a hit. It would be nice to see Icona Pop / Miike Snow & Corine Bailey Rae (All Excellent Singles This
Week) make the top 100 next Friday but as with this week they all need a miracle!
Zoltán Oskovits
I can't believe that "Open My Eyes" is basically the same song as "Say Something". They changed a few notes and that's it. It had worked before: just think of Robin S's "Show Me Love" and "Luv 4 Luv" or Rozalla's "Everybody's Free" and "Are You Ready To Fly". :)
Paul Anthony Searle
Didn't work this time Zoltan the song is a no show and mega flop despite the aforementioned OCC plugs, time and money wasted on remixes and scant radio airplay. Back to the drawing board Ms Harding and please come up with something original!
NA
Nicholas Alexander
The Official Singles Chart is busted but it can easily be put right. The singles chart was and still should be the showcase for brand new music only. Any song that has been in the chart for more than 26 weeks should not show up on the Official Chart (but on a separate but equally important 'Classic Song Chart'). So many exciting new artists can't even get in the Top 100 because they are being crowded out by thirty plus songs that have been in the chart for more than six months and often over a year.
Paul Anthony Searle
May i please ask why 16 weeks? I was thinking more fairly 26 weeks + Don't forget Frank Sinatra's My Way hung around for 122 weeks! Why? Because it was popular and selling. Another more recent example being Snow Patrol's - Chasing Cars. Where do you set the barrier? I'm not knocking your suggestion but it's really diffucult to decide just where the cut off point is.
NA
Nicholas Alexander
You are right - 26 weeks is a better cut off point. Six months is more than enough time to slowly move up the charts. Now that streaming figures are included it means the chart doesn't work as well as it used to.
I Holmes
The singles chart is not and should not be a showcase for brand new music only. Its purpose is to rank the most popular tracks in the country. It has never been more accurate than it is now.
David Holdstock
I agree. The chart is very democratic because it just tells us what people are buying. THAT is its purpose.
Zoltán Oskovits
I agree!!! I love it when a song can be Number One for several weeks. Remember Bryan Adams or Wet Wet Wet? :D
Zoltán Oskovits
Exactly!
G
garry
back in the 90s, gallup chart positions 76-100 were a 'next 25' , including only songs which did not decrease their sales for two weeks in a row or some such formula. maybe this should be re-introduced...
G
garry
So that's a whopping four new entries in this week's chart! Exciting times!
Paul Anthony Searle
YUP! .............and none of them are Official Singles Releases .........apart from Riton ......which charted on sales of just one pre released mix i believe. (It's out fully this week)
Painmix King
And the highest one is at No.67. So only 1 in the Top 75
