The turnover was far too high back then. It's a bit slower than ideal now but given the choice I'd go for how it works now. Even that will change though so just give it time; it seems to go in waves.
A new entry at number one every week then lost forever a few weeks later used to drive me mad. The music was a lot better then but at least it's picked up a bit in recent years. 2012 was just awful but there are some good sounds around now. Those comments were a bit all over the place really weren't they, sorry!
