Darren, no joke or trolling... the chart is over. Download sales had a major negative effect and now streaming has ruined it. It's stagnant like never in its history. I mentioned it last week so I don't wanna keep repeating it in case I get banned from posting (!) but 2016 is the year the UK singles chart died. Sure, it still exists but it's as good as dead - sort of in a zombie state. Alive but without life!
It has a good life, though. 15 February 1969 to 2014 (before streaming)

JUSTIN SLAYS OMG
Leslie Lees
remember the good old days went people went out and brought singles from a record shop, i miss those days. i loved record record shops but all these idiots who couldn't be bothered buying a record or CD have killed them.
Anthony Langan
its quite simple have the sales chart as the main chart then have this chart above as a secondary chart problem solved
Painmix King
I've been posting that same message for weeks mate
Stuart Mortimer
The charts used to be more dynamic when the data was collected by post. A number 1 hit would be in the charts for 12 weeks and a new creative force would come along regularly. Whilst it is impressive that so many hits have been in the charts for over a year it is an indication that streaming is king. You set up your playlist, keep playing the same songs and it stays in the charts. When George Harrison died, 'My Sweet Lord' went back to the top. Bowie couldn't even dent the top 10 for all the stuff being listened to on tinny little mobile devices. Who would have thought that all this fast moving technology would make the charts so staid?

I predict Jess Glynne's newest single "Ain't Got Far to Go" will go number 1 in February if there's no competition then.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Hopefully it will so Cheryl's record is smashed!

Yes! It happened? And there I was last month, thinking the song would never be particularly big in the uk.

Predictions for the top 10 next week:
#1: Stitches
#2: Love Yourself
#3: Sorry
#4: History
#5: What Do You Mean?
#6: The Girl is Mine
#7: All My Friends
#8: Fast Car
#9: Light it Up
#10: Hello
Gary Mewse
Two versions of "fast car" one hyped up (Jonas blue)that obviously has connections or money behind it and the other (Tobtok which is the better one) in an unfair advantage, thought the days of record and charts manipulation were in the passed but looking at Fast car scenario not the case.
Jonas has hardly any web presence yet smashed the Aussie charts knocking Bieber Bowie & Adele with a cover remix of not good quality. Has out done other big artists on Spotify with nearly 16 million plays !!! Yet only has 1200 followers on Facebook ! And I thought the Oscars story was bad enough, afraid to say that the world is still run by " the old boys club" and if your not in it your screwed.

Shawn Mendes at no. 1 now??? He's another Justin Bieber Let's hav sumthin decent at no. 1 The last decent no. 1 wuz just over 6 yrs ago wen Rage Against The Machine got Xmas no. 1 in 2009 It's all been after that
Simeon Davenport
"Decent?" Is "decent" the new word for "real music" or "good music" or whatever idiotic phrase nostalgic grandpas are using to describe the music they grew up with?
Also, I don't mean to sound like an English teacher, but your grammar is horrendous.

This proves my point above!! Heavy rock only!! I bet you hate the charts then?

Finally!! Bieber is only on top cuz he's strong in streams. If people had to pay for it, it would of never made it in top 10 let alone number 1. This is exacly why I think they shouldn't include streams to the charts. How can you have a song that makes it to number 1 with out hardly selling any copies just people streaming it for free, it's making the single chart a joke. Too many good & better artists with not so high streams as him get chucked away.
simon_g42
Bieber is at numbers two and four in the sales chart this week, so your point is nonsense (and in atrocious English).
Painmix King
Why don't you check out the sales chart. Even though i agree with you about Mr. Bieber he made it to No.1 in the sales chart so you can't argue with that. Check out the sales cahart

Too bad that Laura Mvula - Overcome is not entering the charts.the song is way better than other songs

OK. Yes I like Justin Bieber and all THREE songs that he has in the chart BUT it's getting very boring now. They have been in the chart for ages!! This streaming is effecting the chart in a big way and songs by acts like Bieber are not going away quick enough. Its soooo boring! I am fed up with these songs. They are now so over played. Please someone release something else and SOON to get them out of the Top 10 at least. The new Jason Derulo song Get Ugly is similar and catchy. Buy/Download/Stream that. Or even (and can't believe I'm saying this) a different Bieber song! Whatever you like. Just something new! Pleeaassseee!
Simeon Davenport
What Do You Mean? has definitely overstayed its welcome and I'm sick of it too. Streaming has impacted the charts a lot but it is giving Bieber a little too much oomph. That isn't the fault of the Official Charts though--that's the Beliebers' fault for streaming him to death. Go complain about that to them if you must.
Carl Mefkintallica Foxall
There's summat wrong wiv u if u like Justin Bieber

Perhaps not him personally but his music is good. But then its uncool to like someone like that isn't it. Especially a guy. I don't mind One Direction as well. How does that sit? Just varied music tastes....that what makes a good music critic.
I Am A Stegosaurus
I agree but he did get knocked off number 1, so...

He already is streamed to death. I think the last thing he needs is even more streaming.

The Eagles in the sales chart at No.65 with Hotel California. Tribute to Glenn Frey. Sales chart well worth a look

First comment! Okay, since I'm first here, I'm going to tell you all something I've told you about a billion times before, but I'm happy to tell you again:
Please DO NOT leave a comment about how streaming should be abolished from the charts. For those who want to know, streaming is not leaving the charts anytime soon. It's added because at the moment, it is a very good way to see what songs are more popular. That will become especially useful in like 5 years when sales are completely nonexistent.
The people at the OCC likely don't even read these comments, so leaving giant comment rants and essays about how it should be taken off is doing nothing. Actually, I guess I'm being a little hypocritical right here because I'm basically leaving a rant/essay right now, but it's to tell you guys that what you think the charts should be won't ever happen. So, whine and cry about it all you want, if you don't like streams being added to the chart, that's your own problem. Want to blame someone for high streams keeping outdated songs high on the charts? Blame the people who stream the songs, not the OCC!
If you'd like to see what the chart looks like WITHOUT streams and ONLY including sales, check out the sales chart right here: http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-sales-chart/
You're welcome
-Someone with a brain.
drew
streaming should stop
Simeon Davenport
Hello, Internet troll.
drew
who are you to tell people what they can think?
Simeon Davenport
I'm not. I'm merely saying streaming isn't being taken off the charts and it never will be as long as it is being heavily used and is a good way to see what songs are more popular so people need to stop complaining about it.
AnitaZinger
Ahem..... a comment board is for discussion of opinions from everyone, not just what you think.
simon_g42
The OCC have responded to some comments here, so they don't ignore us completely!
simon_g42
The point Simeon is making is that the debate about the inclusion of streams in the chart is futile. The decision has been made and there is nothing we can do about it. The charts are compiled predominantly for the music industry, not for the likes of us. Arguing for streams to be excluded is about as productive as arguing for the abolition of Thursdays.
Simeon Davenport
Yes! Thank you for understanding me!
nrb1426
If you guys hate the songs in the chart, you don't have to hate streaming - you lot can just get an account on something like Spotify or Deezer and stream YOUR favourite songs and count to the chart...
