Couldn't agree with Son of Belushi more. I have been collecting the charts since they first started in October 1952 (I'm now 70) and I have every single one up to 2011. I also have every number 1, and 98% of the Top Ten - over 17,000 records in all. Now I've given up. There has not been a reallgood song since 2009. I still play the top ten every week, but it's all rap . Any decent songs are spoiled by what to me has absolutely nothing to do with music.
And the Official Charts Company has sodded everything up by changing the rules. It used to be actual records sold, and air time. Where did that go?

Finally reached the age where I look at the charts and think to myself "I have no idea who most of these people are". It's quite liberating; back when I knew who everyone was I would think to myself "pop chart music is and XXXXXXXX are " but now I hardly have a clue who's who and I wouldn't know whether a song I heard on the radio was in the chart or not so I'm no longer burdened by knowledge. Ignorance is bliss, and it's nearly 10 years to the day I last listened to Radio 1.

One thing though: whoever "Shut Up & Dance" are at number 8, they're definitely not the house/rave/rap duo (PJ and Smiley) they've stolen their name from - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shut_Up_and_Dance_(band) - have a word, boys...

I think Shut Up & Dance is the name of the song, though it's easy to get mixed up. I'm in the same boat as you. No idea who most of these are :-)
