Wish we had a Top 100 at the start of the 1980's.

I remember reading that the chart was generally only published from positions 1-75. Between 75-100, preference would be given to new songs rather than fallers. This meant that a song could be counted as a re-entry when it had, in fact, only climbed a couple of places (because it had been artificially excluded from the previous chart).

#57 is a continuation of the chart run of Xmas Party, not a new entry. The 4th week of a 4 week run.

No 57: The label of Solid STOP 006 shows the title is 'Xmas Party'.

Was a chart actually compiled for this week?
Martin Wedge
Don't think so this was the last chart complied by the BMRB. Of interest is the fact that Gallup were awarded the contract from January 1983 mainly due to their computerised system and the chart hyping scandals that surrounded the BMRB during 1980 and their manual diary system that was increasingly seen as rudimentary. Although the BMRB had also put forward a computerised system when the contract came up for renewal the BPI wanted a change. Interestingly Gallup's first chart didn't have any major surprises in it when compared to the BMRB's last chart. How much chart hyping affected the charts is really still a matter of conjecture.

No there wasn't. As was traditional at this time of year, if there wasn't a chart compiled, the previous weeks was just reprinted.
