If it's not broken, don't try to fix or reinvent it!

You have to be very clever and talented to do so. The design agency chosen and even paid for this horrendous update were "Electic Mustard". These were chosen by the CEO of "The Uk Chart's Company" Martin Talbot to do the work. I love change and totally agree with moving forward just not like this disgusting update. Whoever designed the old site was a genious and they must be laughing at what you have done as an "improvement" Of course this is only my opinion but the CEO has  said he designed it to appeal to "Gen-Z". I'm pretty sure this does not appeal to that generation and at the same time you've annoyed every other generation as well.

Please Mr Martin Talbort (CEO), in the interest of the company you run and the site that millions loved before you ruined it, do this. Get the useless Electric Mustard design team to do one last thing. Ask them to add to the top of the chart page (the huge pink part where there is a gigantic advert) a poll for all the people who use this website.

The question to put there is simply this :

Did you prefer the Official Charts Website before the update ?

Yes or

No

The results will hopefully confirm that I along with millions of others do not prefer your update Martin.

Hopefullly you will revert back to the fantastic old look at least for the chart pages. A small piece of advice for free. You should have pre-tested your new website at a different domain name with a large percentage of your members to find out their opinion before you went live and ruined the site!

Every single week i bet its going to be sprinter,

No one else will ever beat sprinter not even Olivia Rodrigo and i keep sweating it because i really want Olivia Rodrigo to become number 1 at some point.

Sprinter has had their time now, i hope they get 10 weeks but after i hope Olivia will earn her spot at number 1.

Theres also a new track in the charts which i believe may bring her down too so hopefully she keeps her spot at number 2 until she becomes number 1

hey what's up mates!  sorry if i haven't responded to everyone...i still don't get this new layout...so used to checking my disqus notifications for any responses.  anyway, any new news on flo?  here in the u.s., i see they have a new ep out...and it's pretty good.  i love control freak & change.

the charts are getting worse every week, some of this stuff people call music . . . . "" is in the chart a few weeks and leaves very quickly, these artists making 2 - 3 albums a year as they are out of the chart within months, long gone are the days when artists had songs and albums in the charts months or even years, oh yeah they remove artists doing well for long periods under the ACR rule, so that "" can take its place for a few weeks of non-existent non-memorable talking "music" only songs that do well are straight rip offs from other good songs tune and just talk over the top of them.
we have a total lack of talent in the UK now and i don't see it changing anytime soon.

R

RockGiant6

The part about the time spent on the charts is a complete lie. There are a lot of songs that have been on for m[nths and quite a few for years. (Mr. Brightside 7 years)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

same with the u.s.  we had TONS of artists that could make really good albums from start to finish and put out a string of hit singles.  streaming really killed the quality aspect of the charts, in my honest opinion.  cuz on the hot 100 billboard chart, radio airplay isn't a big chart component, so today's artists don't have to promote their singles @ the radio stations like artists had been doing for decades in the u.s.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

4

well they're on the charts that long due to streaming, not quality or high public demand.  same with the billboard hot 100 chart...i used to be such a hot 100 addict for the longest time and can easily come up with 100+ past top 10s that were full of great quality.  today, artists don't have to spend THAT much time on their music like artists did before streaming happened.  that's just my opinion though.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well flo's pretty good...but still no top 10 hit for them in the uk and u.s.?  that's weird cuz both mtv and mtv uk follow them on twitter *so do i*...all i've heard from them is they have a new ep out over here.

avatar

THIERRY

Totally agree with you! i miss the old days!!

A

Acer

Wow one song, i'm sorry i disagree with you on the "complete lie" if i have to i will go back and show you a list from another era, and today's "music".
Music from yesteryear had a story to the song, vocalist's who could actually hold a note and a melody and rhythm that you could move your body to, todays most popular music in the charts is oooopppss sorry Rap, no singing involved (unless they rip an old song off and use as the main tune) no rhythm it sounds as though they just hit keys and notes randomly, and more than half the time not even actually words used, there maybe a story but as you cannot understand what they are speaking it's hard to tell.
Of course we could mention Indie/alternative scene into this aswell, not all i will add, i do actually like some of it, but the others O.M.G. i listen to 10 seconds and i'm contemplating "ending it all" coldplay have this unearring sound of "death" slowly destroying your will to live, whilst some the moment i hear the voice it's like "please use a voice synvesiser to make it so you are not killing the vibe you are creating.
I am past my 50s now so i guess it has finally come to me that new music is like my parents used to call the music in my day, so i apologise to those young ones on here as they would not understand how us oldies grew up listening to music.

@Acer; I agree with you, the charts is looking pretty bad lately, thats why i consider the sales chart to be the true proper chart. There is a lot of excellent singers that often miss out in the charts and yet people can mumble and consider it music. I actually like some rap songs, but it still needs to have a melody and be audibly understandable, which many songs in the charts are not. I get criticised for stating facts here, but the kids that influence the charts the most (and the ones that are most critical of facts), will be in exactly the same position when they reach maturity. Music of course is subjective, but the current main chart (ie this one), is not really a true representation of the population, merely more a sign of what songs kids are streaming and what songs are promoted the most.

Unfortunately, it's looking like a real possibility. :/

It's already spent 14 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, so it only needs five more to tie it and there seems to be no consistent challenger that'll replace it for good.

avatar

Piran

Really happy she got her ninth Top 10 single with it this week! 😊

avatar

Revan

Ughhh, the charts are getting so predictable now, boring mumbeling doing well and vocally talented people getting slept on. Wish the charts actually reflected the general populations taste better. At least we've finally got Harry Styles out the top 10, i thought it was gonna be in there forever, lol

avatar

Foxes

1

i agree that the charts should reflect the general populations taste better but if anything that would make the charts more predictable lol. the main things making the charts less representative are the cap on 3 songs per artist and ACR (the reason as it was fell so far this week). there's certainly no denying that the #1 is representative of the public's taste though, it's doing double the chart sales of everything else and has been far and away the most popular song in the country ever since it released, and has actually increased in consumption over the past 2 weeks.

avatar

Revan

0

@Foxes; You are mostly incorrect with your response. First of all, the charts would be no more predictable with it reflecting the publics taste unless you was in the know of what songs were the most popular, like having access to the amount of streams/sales etc, but even if it did, i would prefer a predictable chart that reflects the publics overall taste more than one that is biased to one method of music consumption. As for your point about about Dave outselling the others, well then you are ignoring the fact he is WAY down at No 32 on the sales charts, which shows that the streams (which is heavily mostly kids), has more effect on the main charts, however people that actually but music physically (like the older generations or as i call them, people with taste) influences the sales charts more, which is where i personally believe the more accurate representation lies. And this is even before you take into account Youtube, Spotify, Pandora and many others methods of music consumption that are almost meaningless in the biased streaming charts, which this basically is. Obviously Dave is loved by kids, but the whole population is not kids streaming the same music like sheep, some of us have unique tastes and that would be better shown with a fairer chart. Sorry for the rant, just needed to show why you misrepresented my point and were also inherently wrong.

Birthday cake is a great song  but so old, how come it just gone in there?

avatar

Piran

1

Three reasons...

1) There was a duet version with a singer called Alexander Stewart that was released earlier in the month (not as good as the original, but still amazing!).

2) As you can see from the rest of the Top 10, I've been revisiting a lot of Dylan's older music following the release of her recent EP.

3) My friend sadly lost a close family member on Thursday, so a lot of the lyrics are kind of relatable.

love fukumean in the top 5 as well as overdrive and sprinter in the top 10, a lesser man sneaking into the top 20 is great to see as well. nice that pink tape and spider-man: across the spider-verse both still doing well on albums too

green day are amazing! i bought their greatest hits album at a hmv nearby (a coursemate’s band was playing there) and checked out after listening because i loved every song on it. american idiot is fantastic too, i was only just born when it released but i know that was their commercial peak

yeah i think a lesser man might be my favourite song from the idol. pink tape doesn’t stand a chance with austin and utopia dropping next week tho (boutta be the biggest albums chart battle in the history of my charts lmao)

Disappointed about ‘Tattoo’ being put on ACR, but it had a really good chart run for a Eurovision song.

Yeah. I was expecting that artist to make real inroads into the UK consensus. ;)

You wonder if her doppelganger, Lauren Spencer-Smith, is smirking to herself right now at the sight of this.

Lauren Spencer Smith - That Part... such a beautiful song...

Seriously though, Lauren's album was really good!

Happy that 'Bigger Person' charted, but my favourite track is 'ily'. :)

Awesome to see ‘Fukumean’ and ‘What Was I Made For?’ both hit the Top 10.

Glad that Troye and Becky are here too albeit lower down, but shame to see Posty missing out! 😔

Also kind of that ‘Toxic Trait’ left this early, but hoping Stormzy will be back in the Top 40 alongside RAYE with ‘The Weekend’ next week.

RIP Tony Bennett! 🙏

He was truly a legendary pop and jazz crooner throughout his seven-decade career!

He also had one of the earliest UK #1 singles recognised by OCC with ‘Stranger In Paradise’ back in 1955.

Remember on the first day when OCC said; “We've also got lots more enhancements to come over the coming weeks, this is just the beginning of the new platform.”?

We’re now a month into the new platform and there have been no real enhancements at all except for just enabling a very basic reply feature (which as of today is now in the wrong order), so when are we getting everything else back? Not even any updates from the site developers in that time either…

This is why the saying “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” exists, except now it is broken! 😭

Not all three of Harry’s songs going on ACR in the exact same week! 😳

First time ‘As It Was’ hasn’t been in the Top 40 since the first week of February lol.
