Christmas drillings at 73, that has therefore lasted the longest compared to LadBaby & F The Tories, and also Wham! & Mariah Carey. Also Mr Brightside re-entry at 54, no wonder it was in the chart of the year again. And Taylor Swift up to 2 from 53! shows how crazy the chart is under streaming with Christmas songs probably below 1000 now or something.

Love to see all those Christmas songs going home to rest again and see the original tracks chart. Most of the songs got a new peak and a lot of old re entries

Ahh, Mr Brightside back in at #54 for just its 343rd(!!!) week of chart action, then – I thought the lower reaches of the 100 had been missing something for a few weeks...

This time two Januaries ago, it re-entered in the chart week ending 14/1 and spent 47 weeks pottering around the bottom end of the listings right up until W/E 2/12, before dipping out for just a few weeks to make way for the Christmas influx.

Then this time last January, it re-entered in the chart week ending 13/1 and spent 47 weeks pottering around the bottom half of the listings, right up until W/E 1/12, before dipping out for just a few weeks to make way for the Christmas influx.

Then this January, it’s promptly re-entered in the chart for the W/E 12/1.

Any bets against it now spending another 47 weeks straight randomly wandering around between positions 50 and 90, until it dips out again for a bit following W/E 30/11 just to make way for next Christmas’s return of the festive staples?

Honestly, it remains a brilliant song... but there’s something gone deeply wrong with the modern chart (or at least the compilation methods thereof, and by extension the way in which music is now distributed/‘consumed’) if I can make such a safe prediction about yet another Top 100 residency for the forthcoming entire year, for an 18-and-a-half-year-old hit. One that spent, it’s worth noting, precisely FOUR weeks on the sales charts on its initial release.

"out of nowhere" has actually grown on me so much - glad to see that reach the top 10 this week and it should continue to rise considering it's doing very well on streaming!

So out go the Christmas tracks. We really need to have a dedicated Christmas chart that runs from late November to end of December. Everything is skewed.

I haven't been here in months... Though for the new year, I thought I'd come back :)

Incredibly overjoyed for RAYE taking the #1 spot with Escapism. Her career has been an extremely long journey, with lots of struggles with her label, who weren't allowing her to release an album and how this lead to her new start as an independent artist. She has been resilient, and worked very hard to get here. The song is somewhat of a masterpiece and showcases her strong writing skills and a boldness to try something unique and risky, in a musical climate that has been dominated by standards set for how music should sound by labels. Her new creative freedom since becoming independent, in my opinion, has allowed her to unlock a lot of held back potential, which is definitely shown in the other songs she has released. Hard Out Here, Black Mascara & The Thrill Is Gone all have me anticipating her upcoming album 'My 21st Century Blues', it's going to be good!!!

@Official Charts im officially ending support for the charts after ed sheeran’s genre defining masterpiece shivers failed to chart in the top 40 this week. i am so angry it didn’t chart that i might kill myself, as might my 5 year old daughter. please rectify this situation by making it number 1 next week (and every other week) and paying the brit awards to make the song win in every category. thanks besties. ❤️
