i hope love tonight gets an acr reset and breaks the top 40, if it does it’ll be the best edm top 40 debut since remember and we’ve lost dancing from june!

seriously though, this song is a breath of fresh air because the edm from 2021 has been f***ing dismal so far.

Pros and Cons of a Joel Corry x Anne-Marie x Ed Sheeran x Cardi B collab

Pros:
• Joel Corry would be thrown onto the scene in America
• Anne-Marie would be known for more that just 2002 and FRIENDS
• Ed would sound amazing, especially now he knows he was made for dance tracks, like ‘Bad Habits’
• Cardi would guarantee US number one

And yep DERMOT KENNEDY reached a new peak this week in the UK chart and went back into the Top 5 in the IRISH CHART!! loving it, loving it...Do hope for a new album coming out soon?

I was expecting MIMI WEBB to climb the chart this week with her great new single:24/5! She always has a great first week with her singles:GOOD WITHOUT.... but always dropped on the 2ns week!! Hopefully she still can make it to the Top 20 next week!!

I really wanted either LIL NAS X or the hugely talented ELTON to be our new number 1 single...Not only LIL NAS x missed the Top spot in the album chart ( i can't believe drake beat him to it!!) but he missed as well the number 1 single spot !

I find it a little bit annoying that Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah) is blowing all over the world. Living in Africa, the song was already popular as far back as 2019. The vibe has come and gone. Although Afrobeats isn't my favorite genre, I can still appreciate this still representing the genre

I can't believe Talk About hit ACR. It wasn't the best dance song of the year but it's worth listening to. I grew on me more than Apricots in terms of British based EDM

Makes me sad that Talk About is on ACR. That rule needs to be removed asap :P

1) Shivers number 1… again. It has been growing on me but I still hate it and there’s far better songs (Cold Heart & Industry Baby) that should be number 1.
2) Head & Heart dropping after the projected rise 😭 also BED not re-entering the top 75 like it was supposed to :/
3) Let Them Know doing really bad with ACR as well :(
4) Need to Know on ACR as well, at least it didn’t drop as far as it was going to I guess
5) Bad Day top 40. Absolutely awful song.
6) A-Ok finally debuting. Again awful but not as bad as bad day.
7) OUT OUT flopping.

🟠 (Mixed)
1) Talk About on ACR. A strong 6/10 for me but I love taking the mick out of it lol.
2) Woman being a non mover at 14. Nice to see that it stayed at its peak but it should’ve gone up.
3) Good Without at 99. Should be way higher but unfortunately, ACR exists.
4) Obsessed With You at number 4. Ok song but is using Just for me’s fame plus Little Bit of This is way better.

🟢 (Positive)
1) Cold Heart #2 and INDUSTRY BABY #3! So happy about it, but either one of them should’ve been #1 this week.
2) Woman holding steady.
3) Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version) debuting! I’m in love with it and I don’t usually like her songs so yeah
4) My Heart Goes (La Di Da) top 20! In love with it right now!
5) Love Nwantiti top 10! Didn’t think I’d be saying it but I love the song and it’s nice to see afrobeats making an impact!
6) Butter falling. Awful song.

🔴 (negative)
1. really? shivers at number 1? again?! he’s never gonna get off the top spot at this rate.
2. kanye crashed... again! at least hurricane is still in the top 30 i guess.
3. are we gonna keep letting generic edm thrive this year? my heart goes (la di da) and if you really love me are horrible and i’d probably downgrade them to a 0 now.
4. rumours keeps falling! lizzo really doesn’t deserve this and it fell out really fast unfortunately.
5. pain went on acr... honestly this feels like it hasn’t been around long enough.

🟠 (mixed)
1. cold heart is in the top 2. wish this could’ve knocked ed off but oh well.
2. a top 40 placement for bad day. the vocals aren’t great, the production is messy, and the lyrics are ill wishing but it’s only in here because the song itself... is actually quite funny? yeah, i don’t like this but it made me laugh at least.
3. drake beat lil nas x to number 1 on albums. meh.
4. wid it got a slight rebound, the song is still not exactly good but it’s starting to grow on me further.

🟢 (positive)
1. love nwantiti is in the top 10!! i’m amazed by this song’s virality and i’ve been addicted to this song since it debuted last week.
2. it was a good week for lil nas x this week, with industry baby (still my fav song on his album) at 3, that’s what i want at 10 and montero (call me by your name) re-entering at 15! the album was decent, but those three are among my favourites.
3. heat waves has peaked for the fourth week in a row - the fourth!!
4. wildest dreams finally got a taylors version, which led this song to outpeak the original! this is one of my favourite songs by taylor and i’m so happy i can finally stream it without guilt.
5. meet me at our spot keeps climbing, which is another song i’m obsessed with!
6. talk about went on acr! i usually don’t like putting fallers in this green section, but this is probably the worst song i have ever heard, so goodbye and good riddance!

WEEKLY CHART REVIEW (24/09/2021 – 30/09/2021):

🔴 (Negative)

1) ‘Drive’ looks to be stalling out here! It’s so typical how everyone starts getting tired of this in the same week that it grows on me massively, isn’t it?

2) What the is this ‘Bad Day’ rubbish? His “singing” (if we can even call it that?) reminds of Blackbear but a million times more annoying & the lyrics are somehow even more ill-wishing than ‘I Hope’ (which was my second least favourite song of last year). That was my first listen of it & it’ll almost certainly be the last! I’ll stick with the Daniel Powter song of the same name, thank you very much.

3) ‘Need To Know’, ‘Excuses’, ‘Pain’ & ‘Talk About’ all got hit by ACR this week! I know a few people are going to be very happy about the latter though (it soured on me a bit anyway, but I still don’t mind it).

4) ‘Psycho’ continues to go insanely underappreciated! No, I won’t stop banging on about it just yet either, it’s honestly one of my favourite songs of the decade so far now.

5) Drake beat Lil Nas X on the albums chart by just under 500 combined sales (more on the latter in a bit though).

🟠 (Mixed)

1) ‘Shivers’ gets its second week at #1, meaning Ed has ruled there for the past 13 weeks now! Honestly, I have no strong opinion on this either way anymore. The song itself is fine enough; upbeat if generic production, Ed sounds a bit more raw than usual here despite the continued “cracks” when he hits his upper range, while the lyrics are more cheesy than cringeworthy! Here’s my concern though, we’ve seen Ed use this same formula for literally years now. From a commercial viewpoint, I totally get why he’s doing this (look at how well ‘Bad Habits’ & ‘Shape Of You’ did), but from an artistic perspective, I feel that his past few singles have been played incredibly safe & tried way too hard to maintain his mainstream presence! Like, he’s had 11 #1 hits in the UK now, so you’d think he’d at least be a bit more experimental with his genres going into the release of ‘=’ in a few weeks’ time & my worry is that if he doesn’t attempt stepping back out of his comfort zone soon (which we all know he’s more than capable of doing & usually incredibly well), then I’m getting the feeling that this’ll be his worst album to date, even some of the die-hard fans will probably agree with that.

2) ‘Obsessed With You’ held up far better than I expected it to! Okay, it’s not precisely bad coming from Central Cee, but why are we letting this stick around & allowing the song it samples (‘Just For Me’ by Pinkpantheress, a much better song in my opinion) tank? :(

3) ‘Love Nwantiti [Ah Ah Ah]’ is really gathering momentum & even ended up breaking the Top 10 this week! It’s far from my favourite Afrobeats song, but between this & ‘Essence’, it’s nice to see this culture making another resurgence.

4) ‘24/5’ dropped off a fair bit from last week, but Radio 1 still love it, so that gives me hope that it’ll stabilise & make a comeback soon!

🟢 (Positive)

1) ‘Cold Heart [PNAU Remix]’ surpasses almost everyone’s expectations to take the runner-up position! One artist here is a music icon & the other is one of my favourite popstars of the past few years. A really addictive disco bop for both the older & younger generations, which isn’t something you get to say a lot in 2021! I absolutely love the interpolation of ‘Rocket Man’ on this too.

2) Lil Nas X might’ve narrowly missed out on the #1 album tonight, but the good news over here is that ‘Industry Baby’ & ‘That’s What I Want’ are the most popular tracks on it, with the former of these now in the Top 3, since they were both among my personal favourites from ‘Montero’ too (although ‘Lost In The Citadel’ being here really would’ve been the icing on the cake). Between this & aforementioned boost for ‘Love Nwantiti’, this week was a massively successful one for black singers in the charts! ✊🏿

3) Wait! ‘Take My Breath’ actually went back up for once? Maybe the British public finally listened to my pleads to make this a hit after all, haha.

4) ‘Better Days’ climbed up a few places again this week! I would it would’ve been here a lot sooner, but hey, better late than never, I guess.

💚 (Really Positive)

1) ‘Wildest Dreams [Taylor’s Version]’ outpeaks the original 2014 re-recording by 15 places! I guess the main difference this time is that Taylor’s tone is a bit deeper in parts, so her vocals become slightly less raspy & smooth because of that. You can definitely tell that her voice has matured immensely since then, but I don’t know, I feel like the original has just a bit more of a magical feel to it & is more reminiscent of “classic Taylor”, while I didn’t really find that with most of the re-released ‘Fearless’ tracks from earlier this year! Ah, I don’t really care though, this is still an absolutely incredible remake of a song that I absolutely adored even before she announced this. I’m so happy that she’s rightfully getting ownership of her older albums back & I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us when she gives ‘Red’ a new lease of life in November! 😍
