and mates, lemme know if you have any requests for any hot 100 chart retrospects of any uk acts from back in the day. it don't matter how big the hit was over here, i'll gladly take everyone a trip down hot 100 memory lane *to the best of my knowledge* and find out what happened :D i'm off again this coming weekend and i'll have another hot 100 chart retrospect of another uk act ready ;) talk to you all soon!

oh and if the girls of mis-teeq are out there reading my posts...i in no way want anyone's feelings to be hurt ;). i wanted to give the uk fans an idea on what was going on with the hot 100 chart and u.s. music scene @ the time. nobody's a failure, ok? i've also seen huge u.s. acts like britney spears struggle to get into the hot 100 top 10 back then...and even after awhile usher himself couldn't notch anymore hot 100 top 10 hits.

so i just wanted to clear that up! and same for any future uk acts i do u.s. hot 100 chart retrospects on...i don't think ANYONE is a failure! i just don't want mis-teeq to feel bad or have any regrets....there were also huge selling u.s. acts back then that couldn't compete with usher in the hot 100 top 10...so just wanted to tell the girls that :) i totally dig their music and couldn't be more happier and prouder of them for all their success in the uk and in europe. the u.s. is just too hard sometimes to make it for many international acts. esp. pre-social media and pre-internet.

so 'scandalous' peaks @ #35 on the hot 100 chart for the wk of 7/10/2004....here's the link: https://www.billboard.c*m/charts/hot-100/2004-07-10

now what was going on this wk here in the states is usher! as you can see he has the #2, 3 & 7 positions. his #7 song *yeah* was a huge #1 smash and you couldn't miss him on the radio. in 2004 billboard still hadn't made the comments section...it's too bad, cuz i could've passed along some ideas and suggestions for mis-teeq. see, just like today, when an artist is dominating the hot 100 top 10 with 2+ spots, it'll be awhile before they fall out of it ;)...but they won't be in there forever. as soon as usher falls out of the top 10, would've been a better time to release 'scandalous' in the u.s. or even a re-release ;)

it's too bad mis-teeq never went on trl back then...i personally didn't know who they were or heard this single too much on u.s. radio. i also would've suggested they go on the disney channel and nickelodean and try to connect with the u.s. teen and pre-teen market. *and if they did, i would've had them go on repeatedly!* so to me, this was bad timing...cuz after usher's first single...he's never gonna leave the top 10 for about 1 year...his 2nd single *burn* will go in the top 10 as well as the 3rd single 'confessions' while 'yeah' is still in the top 10. even @ the end of this year, he'll have a big hit with alicia keys' 'my boo'....but again, all momentums cool down and the top 10 will continue to fluxuate. and all you had to do was follow the hot 100 chart for about a month to see usher dominate and stay put in the top 10.

but congrats to mis-teeq for achieving great success in the uk. and scoring a top 40 hit over here is no easy feat.... usher! LOL! but i do love 'scandalous' and maybe, if their label tried one more time the following year after usher's momentum cooled down, maybe the results could've been different.

hey what's up mates! so sorry i couldn't do my mis-teeq retrospect last time *had to upgrade my cable boxes*. ok, so mis-teeq had one hit over here in the states 'scandalous' (which i've been totally diggin'!!! and very addicted to it). let's take a look back on the hot 100 chart to find out why this wasn't a bigger hit over here ;) and thanks again to thierry hieron *sorry mate if i misspelled* for recommending that track to me ;)

'scandalous' enters the hot 100 chart on 5/22/2004 @ #82-68-61-51-50-43-39-35-peak*-40-45-52-62 (and then falls off the chart not too long afterwards)

ok, so like most songs, 'scandalous' enters @ the bottom of the chart and works it's way up (very normal back then, i've seen destiny's child back in the day go thru the same thing)...and it takes about 7 wks to crack the top 40. so what that tells me, the top 10-20 just isn't budging! and/or 'scandalous' just can't make a bigger impact on u.s. radio. it stays in the top 40 for about 3 wks but starts falling down the chart. i'll put up the hot 100 chart *hopefully!* for the peak week in my next post.

The Top 40 just seems to get Worse and Worse as the time goes by. Too much Boring R&B dominated by Auto Tune. We need some Rock / Indie back so we do.

HEAT jumping from #94 to #69 gives me hope that, with the weather picking up as we head into summer, Paul Woolford will get a much deserved second Top 40 hit. I'm also hoping that Noizu will break into the Top 40 with Summer '91!

time to do this again. i haven’t heard much of the top 100 as i’ve been so obsessed with aj tracey’s new album and “flower boy” by tyler the creator so i’ll do this based off the tracks i’ve actually heard.

100-91:
best: cloud 9 (10/10)
worst: plugged in freestyle (6/10)

90-81:
best: shallow (10/10)
worst: what’s next (4/10)

80-71:
best: watermelon sugar (8/10)
worst: met him last night (4/10)

70-61:
best: kukoc (9/10)
worst: cover me in sunshine (4/10)

60-51:
best: summer 91 (looking back) (8/10)
worst: way too long (3/10)

50-41:
best: black hole (8/10)
worst: don’t you worry about me (1/10)

40-31:
best: drivers license (10/10)
worst: blinding lights (-1/10)

30-21:
best: calling my phone (9/10)
worst: leave the door open (3/10)

20-11:
best: don’t play (9/10)
worst: astronaut in the ocean (2/10)

10-1:
best: kiss me more (9/10)
worst: let’s go home together (0/10) (but good god is tiesto lucky i didn’t give him the worst again)

the entire top 100:
best: cloud 9
worst: let’s go home together (blinding lights will never leave so i gotta do the second worst)

Finally, ‘Let’s Go Home Together’ joined ‘Little Bit Of Love’ in the Top 10 after all!

Most people I know prefer the latter, but I honestly think both are equally as amazing, haha.

It looks like ‘Deja Vu' will probably make it here next week & I’m also very excited about the possibility of ‘Good Without’ getting there soon too!

Do you think Save Your Tears can get a boost in the UK this week? Peaches is stable at No. 2 again so I'm happy about that. Hello everyone, I'm late today but reading all the comments. :)

Piran

1

I think it'll probably end up being the 'Mr Brightside' of the 2020's! Even ACR can't kill it off, haha. :)

avatar

Piran

2

The funny thing is, it's set to rebound 14 places in our charts (28-14) despite being placed on ACR, so it would probably be entering the Top 5 on Friday if it weren't for that rule.

It's expected to be #1 in the US next week, although it's currently unclear as to whether or not Ariana will be credited on it!

Anyway, can you access the Headline Planet website at all? It won't load for me. :/

avatar

Marcothedonjuan

2

I have been really adamant about Ariana receiving credit as its obviously her win too. Talk about doing charity work if not...

The original deserved to be a #1 hit anyway, but this remix only confirms that, haha. :)
