Have the rules changed again? There are quite a lot of high climbers and big tumblers this week!

Amusing to see reference to position drops of 8-40 or 9-33 as 'ridiculous' or 'really surprising'. Such drops have always happened in the past, when the fan-base rushed out for the first week, and having been sated unless the single took hold on radio / public consciousness, it'd fall pretty quickly. A song hanging on was a testament to pure popularity, as voted by one's cash investment in the track. But in the current era, without some prompting, nothing would change, ever - or the change would happen only via alorithm. ACR might not be a perfect mechanism, but you can see the point behind it.

In the twenty or so years since digital music has become a thing, with 'singles' pretty much as passé concept, requiring less effort to obtain the music now than in previous eras, the singles chart is a strange beast these days. It's a logical evolution of the non-tangible model, and probably a lot more cost-and-environment efficient.

As to the quality & variety of said music, ah, one for the beholder, that...

@coolocelot101

I've streamed 'No Time To Die' so much today... I genuinely think Billie Eilish could be getting her first #1 on my personal chart next week too! :D

While it might not be the best song by either artist, the lyrics are so emotional & motivating! :)

Please get this into the charts guys...

Oh, yes please get this into the charts. I love this song so much. But I'm also a huge fan of Ava so I like almost every song of her, but this one is so so so good. 😍
It was #795 on ITunes in UK this morning, and it still isn't in the Spotify Charts of UK so it might take a while to get this into the charts. :(

Oh yeah, Ava Max in general is an amazing artist, but this one connects with more than almost any other song does. Same for Alan Walker! :D

That's a shame about it not getting much commercial success in the UK, but if it means anything, it's #1 on my personal charts on Crown Note this week: https://crownnote.com/charts/piran-delves/pirans-top-50-0

For as much as I love Taylor's pop smashes, I really like she releases another country album one day! :)

We need more songs like this from her again...

Hi Piran! Yep! I remember this powerful song by these 2 great artists. Sadly, they've disappeared these days

Yeah, we never hear much of either of them anyone. It is indeed a shame, but hey, that's why we all post throwbacks here every week! :D

Hey Piran. Sorry about your dreadful experience, this week hasn't been so good on me either and I'm still trying to recover. So please take care of yourself hopefully the rest of the year goes well. :)

You gave birthday by Anne-Marie a 5? Common!!!

It's a funny coincidence that Billie Eilish released a song called 'No Time To Die' yesterday, while Sam Smith has one out titled 'To Die For'.

On top of that, Billie released the current Bond theme, while Sam did the last one! :D

Thanks to Justin Bieber for the great track. The music is nice. The theme of the clip makes you think. Everyone loves Bieber! The backpacks presented to the girls were a pleasant surprise. However, at the end of the clip it’s clear that Justin Bieber gave a beautiful stranger a ride in a car, and did not present this car to this girl. The reaction to the clip of other people is negative. And all because of an inappropriate gift. I think that singer Bieber the best guy!

Ballin - Mustard ft. Roddy Ricch (9/10) - This was one of my favourite songs of 2019, so i'm happy its hit the chart! It has never got old for me despite it releasing last year. The production from mustard is great, and the hook is so catchy. A great feel-good tune!

Suicidal - YNW Melly (6/10) - I don't mind this from YNW Melly, his vocals don't sound bad to me at all. Although i could definitely see it not being some people's cup of tea. I slightly prefer his song mixed personalities to this though

Birthday - anne marie (3/10) - The chorus is so annoying, the beat sounds so messy to me with all the weird sounds coming from every direction. The one saving grace is that her vocals aren't bad.

Know your worth - Khalid (5/10) - Quite underwhelming compared to Talk, which i really liked from Khalid. I feel like this song just doesn't really have anything interesting about it.

London- m24 and tion wayne (5/10) - The exact same drill beat that I've heard about 30 million times by now, as well as the annoying "uh uh" in the hook. Tion Wayne was decent on this though.

Destined for greatness - tobi and manny (6/10) - The songs lyrics are telling a story about what they've been through in life, and i like the back-to-back style that they are doing. however, its is quite simple and one-dimensional to me, still impressive for their first song.

Intentions - Justin Bieber (6/10) - Once again, this is a pretty mediocre song from Justin Bieber, but at least its an improvement from his last song yummy, which most people would agree was not great. Quavo doesn't add anything to the song, i've never really seen the appeal behind quavo, and i see him as the worst member of the migos.

I am surprised that neither NIALL HORAN nor 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER made the Top 40!! but even more shocked to see TONES & I: NEVER SEEN THE RAIN ( which i find to be much better than MONKEY DANCE) being a massive flop in UK!!

Very happy to see HALSEY still close to get a new Top 10 under her belt! Hopefully next week?! Massive fan of DERMOT KENNEDY so i am extremely happy to see him getting a well deserved second Top 40 but do hope it will make the Top 10 soon!! I did however have better expectation for PUSSYCAT DOLLS, love their new single but only at 29!! When it was 15 mid week.

It's great to see Khalid back in the chart! I'm hoping "Know Your Worth" will climb higher over time, but #34 is still nice (also considering that his tracks "Eleven" and "Up All Night" didn't enter the top 40 at all). He often seems to have trouble getting into the charts (not only the british ones).

"Roses" is climbing and I'm happy about it. I think it may even have a chance to be in the top 3 in a few weeks (or even number 1?).

Why did "Hold Me While You Wait" by Lewis Capaldi re-enter the chart at #30??? And "This is Real" and "Pump It Up" both slipped more than 20 places in one week.

I hope that Roddy Ricch and Future ft. Drake will drop out of the top 10 soon, I don't really enjoy that kind of music.

The new Billie Eilish song may enter the chart at a high position next week. I gave it a listen - for me it's a bit too sad and depressing, "everything i wanted" was better.

Lastly, did anyone notice that "Baby Shark" is gone? :D

I don't think many people here are exactly going to miss 'Baby Shark', haha! :D

"This Is Real", "Pump It Up", "Baby Shark" and "Bruises" all got ACR'd this week, which explains why "Hold Me While You Wait" is back up due to the latter being "starred-out" by the three song rule.

What is ACR'd?

avatar

Rector

0

Accelerated Chart Ratio. When a song is on the charts for at least 10 weeks and has declined in streams for three consecutive weeks, ACR is applied, which halves the amount of streams calculated in the charts, causing massive falls as seen in the four songs above.

how come tones and 1 "never seen the rain" is down from 99 to 100, when last week it was new entry at 100????? now i see iit was 99, but when i put down on my copybook charts last week i swear it was 100...now im confused....

Okay, I did like this week more than expected after all! :)

'Blinding Lights' at #1 is an amazing start, but what impresses me more is how so many older songs are making such big climbs now.

Even though 'Roses' & 'Power Over Me' have already been big around the globe in streaming & airplay respectively for a few months now, it's awesome to see the former enter the Top 10 & the latter finally in the Top 40 regardless!

I'm also loving a lot of the gains for the newer smashes too, like 'Say So', 'Lonely', 'Better Off Without You' & even 'Ballin'. :D

Looks like I'm going to be reviewing a lot of songs tomorrow afternoon, haha!

I hope everyone has a good weekend. ;)
