KSI is going to be mad when he sees how low his dumb song has down, literary.

Why is 'Power Over Me' only now becoming big in the UK?

Sure, it's still absolutely amazing & I'm glad it's selling really well, but it came out ages before 'Outnumbered' did & received nowhere near as much airplay as that song!

I doubt it was down to the MEDUZA remix, but regardless, better late than never. :)

I expect Stormzy to be in the charts all year, Heavy Is The Head is a very good, intelligent rap album.
Do we think Eminem may be back this week with Darkness? It's a hella good banger.
Have to give props to Aitch too, that kid has mad skills and a long future in the game I reckon.

The charts is missing something though, it's time Tik Tok stop dominating and normal music comes back into play, nowadays it's a tough game last thing we need is a silly video app becoming the most powerful advertising platform for new talent

Why Dalton Harris's Cry didn't chart? It's a masterpiece of a song!!!

It’s interesting how both Eminem & Halsey have ‘Without Me’ as the title of one of their biggest hits, while they also released their new albums on the same day...

Does anyone remember this Top 20 hit from back in 2013?

Not only are they are incredible group, but I could relate to this song a lot back then!

Why are Echosmith not ruling the charts at the moment? They deserve it so much...

No.21 Stormzy's Still Disappointed - I guess this is a song about being outperformed week by week by Dance Monkey … I would be disappointed too.

DERMOT KENNEDY reaching a new peak with POWER OVER ME: great news!! Do hope he finally reaches the TOP 40 next week!! DANCE MONKEY is still in the Top 10!! When is her "new" release: NEVER SEEN THE RAIN out in the UK? I think it came out in Australia 6 months ago? I really like the single...much better than DANCE MONKEY!!

Brief review of today's chart:

'Own It' is yet again not the real #1 of the week - which is unfortunate, as it's a great song, and I really hoped it would pull ahead of 'Dance Monkey' to be the true #1 of the week, but alas, it did not. In any case, 'The Box' will likely be overtaking it soon, which is hardly something to be thrilled about either - I really don't see the appeal of the song, and the 'eeh-ur' ad-lib is grating.

The new debuts this week are mostly fine - Selena's 'Rare' was a bit underwhelming, I definitely prefer her previous two singles to it. 'Life Is Good' really seems like a poor mash-up of two completely different songs - Future's part is very generic and forgettable trap, but Drake's bit was actually nice, I kind of wish it could have been drawn out to a full-length standalone song. Stormzy's diss track was probably the best debut of the week personally, although the beef seems to be mostly over, so I don't see the track sticking around, plus I'd rather have 'Audacity' in its place. And finally, Halsey's track was actually a pleasant surprise to hear, although none of her singles from the album have really disappointed.

The top 40 section of the chart should actually feel a bit more real, since there aren't 20 tracks with arbitrarily cut-in-half streams, but it doesn't, mostly because 'Dance Monkey' is the actual most-consumed track of the week, and there's at least three more songs that should be top 40 without ACR ('hot girl bummer', 'Good as ' and possibly 'Higher Love'). Which, in turn, actually makes the chart look a bit worse. Why are 'Old Town Road' and 'bad guy', tracks from May, able to still be top 40, but 'hot girl bummer', a song that first charted in late October, deemed 'too old'? Why did 'Memories' get a manual reset back to SCR, but not 'Dance Monkey', for example? Sigh... I feel like it's pointless to continue asking this at this point.

How's it going mates!!! Here is my not so brief review of the chart.

Kinda glad to see Roddy Ricch hit the top 5 with "The Box" it's not the best thing I've heard but it seems to be growing on me. Hope Trevor Daniel gets there soon though.

For the new Entries
#3 Life is Good - Future ft. Drake. Well this started out quite well with Drake's mellow part then abruptly switches beats with Future to a more trappy bounce which is kind of annoying but future's verse is okay but it's still the same cliché content you hear from trap but it's fine. At least Future now has a Top 5 in the UK. (5/10)

#21 Still Disappointed - Stormzy. I'm honestly surprised none of Wiley's Diss tracks made the chart, anyways, with this we all know who is winning and this isn't just by chart numbers but the track itself, if you've been following the beef tracks between Stormzy and wiley then you'll agree that this is the best. Stormzy calls out wiley for moving his mum to Cyprus and brutally calls all the males in his family "weak". Wonder what wiley is cooking up though (9/10)

#28 Rare - Selena Gomez. Glad this made it, well this isn't bad at all. Selena is asking a person to make her feel special and "Rare" it's an okay song but I'm not sure it'll last on the chart. There are better songs to push as singles from the album though (7/10)

#37 You should be sad - Halsey. Her album titled "Maniac" is finally out. She talks about a partner who she's glad that she never settled down with and how she's sad and he should be sad and her vocals fit right in. This is the second best single from the album after "Graveyard" for me (7/10)

Thanks for reading

Chart Review- 17/01/20
Song Of The Week
Future Ft. Drake "Life Is Good"
This is.. bizarre. Future & Drake put two short songs together to make one big one despite those songs having to connection. Drake's is better, with a nice flow, but unfortunately uses said flow to once again moan about Pusha T. Future's song is longer, and drags on as over the most generic beat he could find he mumbles on about how rich he is. This sounds like an amateur's first song, not something by two of the biggest artists in the genre. 3/10

Other Chart Observations
"This Box" goes up 11 places this week, and his #1 in America. Song's fun, always nice to see a young guy breakout.
Stormzy's Wiley diss "Still Disappointed" not only goes Top 40 but hits #21! Just shows how big he is.
"Music To Me Murdered To" 4/10. Eminem tries to continue his trademark angry offensiveness but has nothing compelling to be angry about, ending up sounding like his own tribute act. Save yourself some time and listen to "Darkness", the albums one highlight.
Looking forward to next week can we PLEASE get the new 1975 song into the Top 40! I love it so much already.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

‘Own It’ by Stormzy ft Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy rules the singles chart for a third consecutive week.

‘Don’t Start Now’ by Dua Lipa is still the biggest song on British radio!

‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones & I leads the national YouTube chart for a 13th non-consecutive week! It even increases 8.5% in views from last week to 3.16 million for the past seven days. The big debuts for this tracking week include ‘Disappointed’ by Stormzy at #2, ‘Savage’ by MIST at #3 & (unfortunately) ‘Yummy’ by Justin Bieber at #5!

I’m incredibly pleased to announce that ‘Blinding Lights’ becomes the most downloaded song over the past week! I might disagree with the charts being based on just sales, but at least that chart has an amazing smash at #1 this week.

FUTURE FT DRAKE - LIFE IS GOOD (#3, Worst Of The Week)
So here we are, officially Future’s biggest hit in the UK that was no doubt helped massively by the Drake feature & honest question, outside of ‘Mask Off’, do you remember what any of his songs even sound like? I only ask this because I certainly don’t & sadly, I could just say the same about this new collaboration too! I know they’ve worked together multiples times beforehand, so I don’t even mind them having their parts so clearly separated, since it actually causes this to be different than a lot of other trap hits. What I certainly didn’t like is how disruptive the transition is, so much that this sounds more like a Drake song mashed up with a Future song, rather than the same hit with both of them on it, just like between Travis & Drake on ‘Sicko Mode’! That being said, the former is still saying about how he won’t be shut down by haters & the latter is still mumble rapping about luxuries, so nothing’s really changed & I honestly don’t understand why this got so big outside of name recognition. Either way, I’ll forget this existed probably by the time I finish typing up this post, so for that, solid 4/10!

STORMZY - STILL DISAPPOINTED (#21, Best Of The Week)
It’s not even a question as to who won this beef at this point! I hadn’t even heard Wiley’s ‘Eediyat Skengman’ diss tracks to begin with, but nobody seemed to care for them outside of a small amount of YouTube trending, not even getting that many views. That being said, if you make a threatening comment to assault an incredibly famous rapper’s mother & claim that Ed killed grime music, yeah, you’re not getting my support! Of course, I just love how Stormzy bites back here, where he gets extremely personal with WIley’s family members, suggesting that all of the men in his family are weak & he mocks his mother’s situation in response. Now, I know that this is incredibly insulting & brutal content, but it’s a diss track, it’s supposed to be! However, it’s Stormzy being the lyrical mastermind that he is, along with his most hard-hitting flow to date & the outright rage he pumps out during the entire track, with sounds phenomenal over the rumbling bass, which is all concluded by “24 hours to reply!”. He rants, then he challenges his rival with a blunt & clear message. Stormzy, can you please start putting diss tracks on your studio albums? ‘Heavy Is The Head’ would’ve done even better if it has this on it. For me, while I don’t expect we’ll hear too much of the Wiley-Stormzy drama in the future, this is a solid 8/10 from me!

SELENA GOMEZ - RARE (#28)
Despite how well the album did, I thought there would be a bit more of a single impact for Selena Gomez this week! That said, other than ‘Lose You To Love Me’ getting an incredbly small rebound, the title track did manage to debut. Unfortunately, if the rest of the album is like it, I can see why fans are more disappointed with this album is comparison to, say, ‘Revival’! Sure, that dominant guitar groove that runs throughout the song undoubtedly will stick with you, along with Selena Gomez herself being fairly smooth & confident here, but I can’t help but feel that her upper range is a lot more strained this time round & the hook falls incredibly flat, along with the fact that’s there’s no real build-up to it either. Ultimately though, while it seems like an obvious pick for the radio, it doesn’t give me the impression that it’ll go very much further here on the official chart, if at all. I mean, it’s not bad, but I was hoping this would be better after ‘Lose You To Love Me’ wowed me so much, although ‘Rare’ itself gets a light 6/10 from me!

HALSEY - YOU SHOULD BE SAD (#37)
You know, going into ‘Manic’ which got released today, I have absolutely no idea what artistic direction Halsey wants to head in going forward! Yes, she’s primarlily a pop artist, but she’s had touches of R&B, EDM & even rock in some of her recent singles, so you could imagine my confusion when I found out this was country-inspired! That being said, I don’t mean that in a bad way, because I found myself listening to this a lot over the past two days. Yes, Halsey’s vocals are still a bit too raw or raspy for my liking personally & that’s always been an issue I’ve had with her singing anyway, but despite that, she can really convey both her anger & her relief of this break-up effectively, with a somewhat catchy melody attached to it too! Even the twangy elements of the production impressed me here too, except at the end of each hook where it just sounds messy & failing to carry any bombast with it. So yeah, it might not be her best single, especially when ‘Eastside’ & especially ‘Closer’ are just in a different ballpark & I still enjoy ‘Nightmare’ more among singles as a lead artist, but this has me very intrigued to hear more of what her new album will bring! For me, I’m thinking a solid 7/10. Thanks @coolocelot101 for letting me know about this!

On the albums chart, ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ by Lewis Capaldi is #1 for an eighth non-consecutive week, although only with a 637 chart sales lead!

The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘Rare’ by Selena Gomez (debuts at #2, her personal best), ‘Heavy Is The Head’ by Stormzy (1-3), ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ by Ed Sheeran (3-4) & ‘Fine Line’ by Harry Styles (4-5).

Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Black Swan’ by BTS, ‘What A Man Gotta Do’ by Jonas Brothers, ‘Those Kinda Nights’ by Eminem ft Ed Sheeran, ‘Godzilla’ by Eminem ft Juice WRLD, ‘Unaccomodating’ by Eminem ft Young M.A, ‘Ei8ht Mile’ by DigDat ft Aitch & maybe even more.

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

Another great review from you Piran!
Out of all the debuts, my favourites are "Rare" and "You Should Be Sad".
"Life Is Good" is decent, as is "Still Disappointed".
That Jonas Brothers, BTS and Eminem debuts will be intriguing to watch next week!

Thanks Sergej! :)

Since 'Manic' was released yesterday, I could see 'You Should Be Sad' climbing a lot next week, maybe to somewhere in the 20-30 range!

'Rare', on the other hand, will probably fall a lot, as that was only really down to album hype, while the radio still only care about 'Lose You To Love Me' (another incredible song!) as far as Selena Gomez songs go.

It's funny how Stormxy's follow-up diss track to Wiley did better than the original one, haha!

I haven't heard the new Eminem album nor Jonas Brothers track, but BTS' one disappointed me slightly if I'm being honest! I mean, it's decent, but I'm used to finding their songs awesome.

Congratulations to Dance Monkey for yet another week atop the charts! It fends off Own It for yet another frame, and it's so peculiar that the OCC still isn't reflecting it. I thought I would only have a reason to bring this up for 2 weeks at the most, but now we're on the third week for this matchup alone and the fourth week with a fake leader in a row. This is embarrassing.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted, it's purely and simply factual, lol.
Unfortunately, Music Week didn't provide the actual numbers for 'Dance Monkey' this week but it would comfortably have been #1 without the silly ACR.

While it's definitely not the best track from 'Heavy Is The Head', I guess I'll take 'Own It' still being #1.

That said, what I'm really excited about is 'Blinding Lights' hitting a new peak thanks to huge sales, as well as the debuts for 'Still Disappointed' & 'You Should Be Sad'!

Heck, with 'The Box' growing on me rapidly & 'Yummy' falling further than expected, this might actually be my favourite chart of 2020 so far (given that the first two were so bad for debuts).

I'll discuss more in my full review a little later this evening! :)

Hi Piran!
I'm still glad that "Own It" is the #1, only a matter of time until "The Box" maybe will get the #1 (Glad it grows on you!).
I also like "Blinding Lights" getting a new peak, still #1 in Germany!
"Yummy" didn't fall hard enough.
Can't wait for your full review later!

Hey Sergej! :)

We'll see if 'The Box' can get there, since it's very rare that trap songs reach #1 in the UK, unless they're from Drake! Honestly, that's making me think that 'Life Is Good' has potentially an even better chance.

While it doesn't look 'Blinding Lights' will reach #1 here, I'm glad that it's still dominant across most of Europe, as well as now leading our download chart too! :D

Yeah, if I had my way, 'Yummy' would've dropped off the chart completely! No, in fact, it should never have charted nor existed to begin with, haha.

The full review is up now! ;)
