14th different week in position 100 by the Killers' 'Mr Brightside'. It must be 10 weeks or more ahead of its nearest rival. It has even held on to the position in successive weeks twice!

Great to see "Dance Monkey" by Tones and I in the Top 10 though
"Take me back to London" by Ed Sheeran better hit ACR soon. I'm tired of seeing it at number one, not that it's a bad song or anything

The scripts and maroon 5 didn't make the top 40. I'm not impressed

I'm surprised Ella Henderson didn't even make the top 100 with "Glorious". That's a bad start for a come back

"Shallow" becoming Lady Gaga's first song to chart for a year since "Telephone" is such a pleasant surprise. Just a couple years ago she could only scrape a few weeks in the Top 40 before plummeting.

And I quite like this song! It is supposedly a cover version of a very popular Swedish 80's song. Can't wait for a full album too. Have a great Monday!

It is a great song indeed! Wish they could have released it in English as well...a pity really...Just hoping they will released this year an album so i can go and buy right away! What is happening to DUNCAN LAWRENCE since ARCADE? i check regularly on wiki but i don't think he has released yet a new single? Take care and have a great day..

avatar

Ronald van Veen

And I'll buy that album too! I really hope it'll get a pre-Christmas release! For some (obvious) reason KEiiNO sounds a lot like ALPHABEAT!

DUNCAN LAURENCE... he is constantly touring according to his website. No new single yet, no news about an album so far. Hope he doesn't wait TOO LONG because it is easy to fade away nowadays....

Morning Ronald. How are you today? Any plan for the week end? BTw do you remember LUCA HANNI, the entry for Switzerland at the Eurovision song contest? He just released a new single BELLA BELLA...Fantastic! Do hope he will release as well a new album this year for SHE GOT ME which reached number 1 in his country for 3 weeks in a row!! Enjoy your day...

Hi Thierry,
Going to visit my mum in the city where I was born 51 years ago: The Hague / Den Haag. Looking forward to that!
Yes I remember LUCA HANNI. I quite liked the ESC song. Did not chart in the Netherlands though. Will check out his new song later today. If it is as good as his previous song I will like it!
What are your plans this weekend?
Have a nice Saturday!

BTW: check the Scottish Singles Chart!

Oh... no... it wasn't my birthday... hahaha! Turned 51 on July 17, not today but I do understand the confusion.

BELLA BELLA is quite nice! It could enter the UK charts just like that!

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

‘Take Me Back To London’ by Ed Sheeran ft Stormzy spends its fifth consecutive week at #1 on the singles chart! It received 53,000 combined chart sales for the week, which is 14,000 ahead of its nearest competitor.

‘Higher Love’ by Kygo & Whitney Houston was the most played song on national radio for a fourth non-consecutive week!

‘Take Me Back To London’ also continues its YouTube reign, as it’s been #1 there for four consecutive weeks now! It loses 11.6% of its weekly views to 2.84 million. There were also three debuts inside the Top 10; ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’ (#2, 2.44 million), ‘Nookie’ (#4, 1.68 million) & ‘Wiley Flow’ (#9, 1.34 million).

LIZZO - GOOD AS (#23)
Woah… I did not expect this! Yeah, I knew ‘Good As ’ would be breaking into the Top 40 this week, but I didn’t think it’d be anywhere near as high enough to give Lizzo now officially her highest charting hit to date! That said, honestly, this may even be able to top ‘Juice’ for me & I’ve been singing praises for that song ever since I reviewed it. I could just say that this is another older Lizzo track that promotes self-confidence & being happy with who you are, but I feel that Lizzo’s incredible pipes & effortless charm elevates this to a much better level, even if the backing vocals are a little flatter than they probably should be. In terms of production, while I think that the drum mix was a bit overdone, the horns & piano melody are what your attention is immediately drawn to! So yeah, we might get a certain commenter bringing up this artist every day for the next few weeks, but at least the song truly impressed me. Therefore, strong 8/10!

TIESTO & MABEL - GOD IS A DANCER (#37)
All you need to do is just look at the names here to know that this’ll be a massive hit in bars & clubs across Britain, as well as having potential to be big in the charts, but all of that is essentially confirmed when you actually hear the song itself! I love how it so clearly resembles a lot of Tiesto’s early roots with the 90s-house feel, yet it’s also something that could’ve fit just as well on ‘High Expectations’ that came out earlier this year, since Mabel’s voice continues to remain distinctive & convincing! I think what really caught my interest was how bubbly the Caribbean inspired melody felt, but on the other hand, Mabel’s vocals are clearly auto-tuned way more than they need to be here (in fact, her completely natural tone might’ve been an even better fit) & I’ve never liked the religious comparisons in dance songs, especially when you focus on Mabel’s choreography in the official video, but hey, this’ll still easily bring brightness & fun to your weekend. So for that, solid 8/10!

LOUD LUXURY & BRYCE VINE - I’M NOT ALRIGHT (#16 CANADA) [WORLD HIT]
With two new arrivals, I think it’s fair to say this new singles chart didn’t interest anyone all that much! So, on that note, I’ve looked into what’s big abroad which could potentially make it’s mark over here in the near future! While you’re not going to get the bombastic beats that these guys did on the summer anthem of 2018 that was ‘Body’, I still found the guitar line to be interesting over Bryce Vine’s relatively soulful & sincere delivery. The more intriguing feature of this song is that while the horns & synths in the drop might give this a considerable groove, the content is rather bittersweet, which sees a reflection on a relationship that is falling apart because of Bryce thinking the woman he’s with is out of his league, so he turns to drinking & smoking to get over it. It’s actually surprising how sad the writing is, when the production of the song feels more uplifting & the way Loud Luxury mix both of those is rather clever. On that note, their home-country made this their follow-up hit there, so I can only hope us Brits will allow it to do the same here, because I really like this one!

On the albums chart, ‘Why Me? Why Not.’ becomes Liam Gallagher’s second solo #1 album & his 10th overall including Oasis records, debuting with 68,000 combined chart sales! Of that figure, 17,000 (25%) were vinyl copies, making it the fastest selling vinyl album of 2019 so far.

The rest of the Top 5 is: 'Cause & Effect' by Keane (debuts at #2), 'Hollywood's Bleeding' by Post Malone (2-3), ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ by Ed Sheeran (3-4) & ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ by Sam Fender (1-5).

For the first time in the 11 weeks it’s been charting, ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ departs the Top 3 of the albums chart.

Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Playing For Keeps’ by D-Block Europe ft Dave, ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’ by J-Hope ft Becky G, ‘Turn Me On’ by Riton & Oliver Heldens ft Vula, ‘Greatest Mistake’ by Jack Savoretti, ‘Got It All’ by Professor Green ft Alice Chater, ‘Writing On The Wall’ by French Montana ft Post Malone, Cardi B & Rvssian, maybe even more.

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

Hey Piran! Sorry I couldn't comment over here last week, I've been pretty busy with college work lately. That said, I do like 'Take Me Back to London' being at #1 for these past 2 weeks, even if this will almost certainly be its last week at #1 thanks to ACR. There are so many great climbs this week, especially with 'Be Honest' finally reaching a new peak after 4 weeks at #18 & 1 at #19, as well as 'Professor X' reaching the Top 20 and 'Location' re-entering the Top 40! It managed to drop out of my charts and the OCC on the same week, and now it's managed to re-enter on the same week as well! It's pretty incredible that it's managed to stay in the Top 20 on Spotify for the majority of its over 200 days on the chart, despite never making it any higher than #8!
I've really liked the majority of the debuts from these past 2 weeks! For last week's, it was cool seeing 'Don't Call Me Angel' debut at #2 (even if it did drop massively this week), since I'd probably give it a strong 8/10, while 'Nookie' definitely wasn't nearly as good with a light 4/10 from me. Predictably I loved seeing 'Take What You Want' debut since that's a solid 10/10 from me, though I am quite surprised it's not managed to make your charts since you gave it a solid 8/10! 'Professor X' is really good for me, probably a strong 8/10 - light 9/10, while 'Wiley Flow' was also good with a strong 7/10. As for this week's debuts, unfortunately I can't get behind Lizzo's music at all. 'Juice' was only a strong 5/10 - light 6/10 for me, and it's still easily my favourite song of hers. 'Truth Hurts' is one of my least favourite Top 40 hits of the year, at a light 1/10 from me, while 'Good As ' is more of a middle ground at a strong 3/10 - light 4/10. Luckily, I really like 'God Is A Dancer', currently at a strong 8/10 - light 9/10 for me, and it's still growing on me a lot!
Next week it definitely looks like 'Take Me Back to London' will be going onto ACR, and I think 'Dance Monkey' will probably be the song to replace it! Looks like your bold prediction will be coming true sooner than probably even you expected! 'Taste (Make It Shake)', 'Ride It' and even 'Ladbroke Grove' could have a shot at #1, though, and that latter track is another very impressive British rap track in terms of longevity, reaching #1 on Spotify for the 1st time on its 231st day on the chart! D-Block Europe have a pretty good chance of getting 'Playing For Keeps', 'Nookie' and 'Home P*ssy' all inside the Top 40, though I think 'Writing On The Wall' is the only thing that really looks like it has a decent chance of debuting. Maybe 'Turn Me On', but I think it'd need to increase some more on Spotify. Either way, it doesn't look like it'll be a particularly interesting week for debuts, but it should definitely be an interesting battle for #1!

Hey Gameskiller! :)

That's alright, hope your studies are going well! The reason for my late reply to you here is because I went away for a few days, partly to see Russell Howard in Bournemouth on Monday night (he was really good!). :D

Anyway, it looks like 'Take Me Back To London' could set a new record for biggest fall from #1 thanks to ACR. It's currently expected to drop 1-12, while 'Senorita' currently holds the record by crashing from 1-11 in week that it was placed under the lowered streaming ratio.

So it seems like we're mostly in agreement over the past couple of weeks, except you liking 'Take What You Want' & 'Professor X' more than me, but especially 'Good As ' getting a much lower score from you. Yikes on the light 1/10 for 'Truth Hurts' though! I don't think I've ever given a song that low of a rating here (although 'Robbery's solid 1/10 comes close). You won't like the US BIllboard Hot 100 then, where 'Truth Hurts' is currently reigning for a fifth consecutive week!

Yeah, the general outlook for next week is that there won't be any considerably high debuts, but it looks like we'll finally get a new #1! The latter is especially promising as it's a song you know I've been rooting for from the start. ;)
