The whole TOP 100 Singles chart is a farce and for years has NOT been a true reflection of what the public are buying, downloading and streaming. it should go back to the glory days when it actually meant something and when people like me actually took notice of it and followed it. Nowadays it's pointless and filled with rap and hip hop which is not popular music and is so boring repetitive explicit and instantly forgettable drivel. Let's have some PROPER music back in the charts again and some REGGAE which has been absent for many years now.

Why didn't the Pet Shop boys excellent new single with years & Years - Dreamland not even make the TOP 100 ? It was top 10 on iTunes after release and yet it is nowhere to be seen in this latest chart! also where are singles by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds & Ella Henderson? I really don't see the point of artists releasing singles these days when they get nowhere, and yet the chart is filled each week with rap and hip hop cuts off albums as new entries. It doesn't make sense.

iTunes chart is just a snapshot of sales for the last 24 hours - it’s not uncommon for legacy acts to have “relatively” high sales in the first 24 hours to make it top 10 on the first day. But in reality they’ve sold less than a thousand copies.
But if you look at the sales chart then we have
Pet Shop Boys at 38
Noel Gallagher at 68
Ella Henderson at 74
When sales are this low then you haven’t got a prayer of seeing them in the main chart

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
‘Take Me Back To London’ by Ed Sheeran ft Stormzy reaches its fourth week at #1 on the singles chart! It adds another 59,000 chart sales (including 8.2 million streams) to its tally.
‘Senorita’ by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello is proving to be one of the biggest radio hits of 2019 so far, as it spends a seventh non-consecutive week atop the national airplay chart!
‘Take Me Back To London’ also leads on YouTube for a third consecutive week, but it loses 13.2% of its weekly figure with 3.21 million views. Other notable moves are ‘Panini’s massive 100-2 climb (increasing nearly nine times in views!) & ‘Sounds Of The Skeng’ being the highest debut of the week at #4.
ARIANA GRANDE, MILEY CYRUS & LANA DEL REY - DON’T CALL ME ANGEL (#2)
For as much as I’ve never understood why Ariana keeps releasing “one-off” singles instead of promoting other tracks from ‘Thank U, Next’, it clearly seems to keep landing her massive smashes! With this, not only do the early numbers imply that it’ll have more staying power than either ‘Monopoly’ or ‘Boyfriend’ did, but also that it’s a considerable improvement from both of those! Here’s where this song gets fascinating; Ariana, Miley & Lana are three of the most distinctive pop females vocally & this song essentially celebrates their different styles! Ariana’s greater use of whistle notes here alongside Miley’s more fiery approach makes for a rather wonderful blend & that jingling trap beat that lingers in the background is a pleasant touch here. Of course, Lana’s softer rock crooning doesn’t fit in as well here, but it still adds an ominous emotion to the bridge & it grows on you regardless! It’s a collaboration that you wouldn’t expect to work on paper, but winds up ending being a bigger surprise than I think anyone thought it could be! It’s actually made me curious to see what’s coming on the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ soundtrack, so for that, strong 8/10!
D-BLOCK EUROPE FT LIL BABY - NOOKIE (#16)
I’ll be blunt, I was trying to avoid this all week. Look, having already seen comments on here that I probably wouldn’t like this earlier in the week is one bad sign, the fact that none of the three major hits from D-Block Europe have impressed me so far only adds to that concern. As for this… there’s no point ranting about it, because it’s easy enough to just dismiss straight away! Firstly, you have to listen to it a few times just to comprehend what they’re even saying, but even then, you’re not missing much as the trio brag about; brands, money & girls. The latter of these has some of the most questionable content; where on the hook they claim to treat a woman’s private parts right, yet just a few seconds later suggest they be married to four other women! I mean, you know things have gone horribly wrong when Lil Baby of all people is the most interesting part of the song, who even then, continues to not add much of a presence to anything with his incredibly annoying nasal delivery! As for production, I don’t really remember too much of it, but more to the point, I don’t care for it either! Lil Baby might be showing the slightest amount of potential as he takes on a faster melody, but it’s nowhere near enough to save this from being extremely underwhelming! Light 3/10.
POST MALONE FT OZZY OSBOURNE & TRAVIS SCOTT - TAKE WHAT YOU WANT (#22)
Who would’ve thought we’d get a week in 2019 where both Whitney Houston & Ozzy Osbourne were both in the Top 25 of the singles chart?! Let’s be honest though, Ozzy is the main reason why this is both a fan favourite from ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ & why critics absolutely adore this! Of course, what I love that adds to that is how Post Malone can actually match him is selling the darker melodrama in the content, although I think the riff that closes the song that really drives the rock swell to this & it’d go off amazing live! As for Travis Scott, his flow might be a bit more manipulative & creative than average, but we’ve heard this same kind of auto-tuned & warbled verse from him many times before, particularly on ‘Astroworld’! Overall, while I still don’t think we’ll ever get a full rock album from Post Malone that I know he’s capable of, at least we got this gem & I could see it growing on me even more. For now, solid 8/10!
DAVE - PROFESSOR X (#24)
With this being his 13th Top 40 appearance & now him being a Mercury Prize winner, Dave’s definitely cemented his name among one of the biggest British urban acts of the decade so far! This, however, is a slightly different approach from him, but I still like it all the same. Nothing’s changed in Dave himself, where he still brings his distinctive South London accent with both character & dexterity, although the differences come into the production! I found the instrumental to be a lot more oscillating & mainly down-tempo than a majority of Dave’s charting entries. Maybe it’s not up there with his absolute best singles, which had more of a haunting or menacing vibe to them, but this is still among the ones I like. Therefore, light 7/10!
STORMZY - WILEY FLOW (#37)
Stormzy’s single rollout for his upcoming second studio album is really insane! He only dropped his last hit two weeks ago & this managed to make the chart without even a full tracking week! Thankfully, this is easily the better of the two. Like ‘Sounds Of The Skeng’, Stormzy returns to a more fierce grime flow, where he brags about his success & shuts down haters. Unlike that song, we’re seeing more of a brashy & bulging production this time around, especially on that emphatic & low-end beat that runs beneath the surface of the entire track! Stormzy also finally sounds somewhat convincing again & I’d even argue he’s rightfully earned the Wiley comparisons that he mentions here, especially since he can copy his flow effectively without ripping it off. I do feel that the momentum just misses out on reaching the end of the song & some of the punchlines could’ve connected a bit more than they do, but Stormzy does an awesome job with the interpolations & tributes to Wiley, which is what this song is essentially all about. I’m thinking a solid 7/10 here!
On the albums chart, Sam Fender’s debut album enters straight in at #1 with 41,000 combined sales! Of that number, 8,200 were vinyl copies, making it the fastest-selling vinyl album of the year so far.
The rest of the Top 5: ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ by Post Malone (1-2), ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ by Ed Sheeran (2-3), ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ by Lewis Capaldi (5-4) & ‘Lover’ by Taylor Swift (4-5).
In other chart news from a couple of weeks ago, ‘The Greatest Showman’ soundtrack departed the Top 10 on the albums chart after 87 consecutive weeks in the region!
Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘The Last Time’ by The Script, ‘Good As ’ by Lizzo, ‘Turn Me On’ by Riton & Oliver Heldens ft Vula, ‘Stack It Up’ by Liam Payne ft A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, ‘God Is A Dancer’ by Tiesto ft Mabel, ‘XTC’ by Solardo & Eli Brown, ‘4AM in Coventry’ by Jay1, ‘Memories’ by Maroon 5 & maybe even more.

9 non-singles in the Official Chart, and 8 of them coming from the tv series "Top Boy". I just can't wait when the non-singles wouldn't be able to qualify for the chart. Because of that, such well-known artists as the Pet Shop Boys, Ella Henderson, Charlie Puth, Fall Out Boy, French Montana, Julia Michaels and Mika, to name just a few, were not able to put their singles in the chart this week...

It's disgraceful that a top 10 i tunes chart position does not even translate to a Top 100 UK Singles Chart position - especially when you consider it's two high profile acts.Instead we get yet more rap album track fodder filling up the charts.

It probably would've been way more if the "three songs" rule hadn't come into effect!
What I don't understand is how soundtracks like 'The Greatest Showman' were placed under this rule but was eligible for the albums chart, while 'Top Boy' gets several entries on the singles chart & not being allowed to chart at all on the albums side of things.
I'm not too sure if Pet Shop Boys would've made it anyway though, since their streaming was essentially non-existent for this week. :/

Unfortunately, I don't think 'Dreamland' even made the Top 200 this week! It appears that their last song to make the Top 200 was 'The Pop Kids' (#128, 2016), while the most recent Top 100 appearance from them was 'Thursday' with Example (#61, 2013).
It did chart at #56 on the UK downloads chart though, as well as #71 in Scotland. That's still not bad for a group that have been active for over 35 years now!

You know what would actually be "disgraceful"? A track that sells less than a 1,000 copies making the top 100. Do you people think that this chart is based on "talent", that it's supposed to rank "actually proper good music" based on who knows what criteria?
It's based on sales. And since we live in 2019, and most normal human beings stream the music they like, those streams are converted into sales, and, surprise surprise, the millions of streams divided by hundreds through a universally used formula still vastly outweigh digital sales figures. So if your precious legacy acts can't make the top 100, maybe don't blame the charts, who literally have nothing to do with it anyway, maybe you should blame yourself.
But, as you'll be sure to tell us, all the songs you like are "proper good songs" and if they don't chart, then there's something wrong with the system, meanwhile all that "rap album track fodder" (aka songs you don't like) should just disappear off the face of the earth to make way for the excellent new Pet Shop Boys single!
