AVA MAX brand new single is only at 93!! That can't be right...what is happening to Katy Perry...she isn't able to get any new Top 10 for quite a while....Very talented artist...

She's just made a comeback after quite a while, and NRO was indeed quite successful. Just wait for her to get into the groove. What's worrying is Taylor Swift's performance.

Good morning Thierry!
Thursday has been a very very busy day. About to go to bed now....
TASMIN ARCHER: I love her first album and the singles that came with it. Haven't heard new music by her for ages!!! Is she still recording?
JOAN OSBOURNE: I only really know that single 'One Of Us'. Really liked that song a lot but haven't heard anything else by her.
I really like LISA LOEB, known from her hit STAY (I MISSED YOU). But she did release a lot more and most of that is soooo good!
Happy Friday!

Hi Ronald...nice to hear from you...I know TASMIN only released a second album but kind of disappeared after that...shame really...i will check LISA LOEB on youtube this week end...her name doesn't ring a bell...you finish work late...have a wonderful day and yeah...it is Friday...the best day of the week!! take care and speak to you soon...

I think I heard that second TASMIN ARCHER album just once, was not that good in my opinion. I had expected something better. IN YOUR CARE is such a good song.
When you listen en see LISA LOEB you will probably remember her. My favourite LISA LOEB song is FURIOUS ROSE, album track not a single.
I also really like GABRIELLE. Her last album is quite good. I like most of her songs actually, great soul voice.

I work from 08.00 till 17.30 Monday to Friday. And at home I do more wok for my school from 22.00 till 00.00 most days of the week. I do not mind because I like my work (head of department in a school).

What kind of job do you have? You seem to get up rather early!

Hi Ronald...Oh yeah, Gabrielle is definitely a great singer.Such a pity we don't hear from her that much anymore...i will listen to LISA LOEB and let you know my thought this week end...I work as an auditor/ translator and customer rep for an American company based in USA so i work from home..I work for the European market and Canadian one as well...Used to work in their London office but they closed it down a few years ago...at least i don't have to commute anymore!! I have been with that company for over 12 years now...Have a great week end and speak to you soon..

OK.... now I understand why you are up that early!
Working from home doesn't sound bad at all!

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

‘Take Me Back To London’ by Ed Sheeran ft Stormzy spends a second consecutive week at #1 on the singles chart. Its reign looks to be continuing for a little while yet, since it currently has a huge 22,500 combined sales lead!

‘Higher Love’ has been the best-selling song in the UK for the past month, while also spending a second non-consecutive week at #1 on the radio airplay chart.

‘Take Me Back To London’ also becomes the new #1 on YouTube, ending ‘Old Town Road’s reign which started back at the beginning of May! The remix video debuts at the very top of the chart with 4.22 million weekly views across the country.

POST MALONE - CIRCLES (#11)
I really don’t know what to expect from Post Malone’s new album that came out today. I mean, both ‘Sunflower’ & ‘Wow’ were both good songs which only got old quick due to overplay, but ‘Goodbyes’ just underwhelmed me from the start. That said, I feel I could find myself liking this a lot more than probably any of them! I really like that Post Malone is starting to explore the softer side of R&B, since I never really got on board with his older trap hits as much as others did. Here, we get a beautiful acoustic guitar opening, with layers slowly being added the song progresses & some smooth electronic touches in the background by the time we get to the hook. The structure & development of the song is very clever here! Also, this only adds to the further proof that Post Malone can really put on an impressive rock vocal too, with the shouting over the chorus which somehow remains melodic, over a relationship that seems doomed & cold, calling for someone to act on it in anyway they can. If this is the side of Post we’re going to see on ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’, then I might be looking forward to that album after all, because this is really cool! Strong 8/10 at the moment.

REGARD - RIDE IT (#25)
Have you guys noticed a lot of recent dance hits have sampled older artists? In this case, it’s inspired by Jay Sean’s song of the same name & for a song that’s about seduction on the dancefloor, DJ Regard modernises it rather well with his remix! He replaces the feathery groove with an addictive housebeat; the tempo increases, the pitch decreases, but somehow it also remains faithful to its original. I do wish there was a little less auto-tune & maybe it could develop into slightly more energy, but otherwise, I’m all for this becoming even bigger! Very light 8/10 here.

Y2K & BBNO$ - LALALA (#37)
I’ve been hearing this song for a few weeks now, so you’d think I’d have a distinctive opinion as to whether or not I like, yet I really can’t decide! bbno$ honestly reminds me a lot of Lil Pump in the sense that he’s neither really rapping nor singing in this, but more monotonous flexing… except there’s also a sense of a fun atmosphere here too & I think that’s supported by Y2K’s production! Yeah, the trap beat might be ridiculously lumpy, but it’s an interesting trick to hear a minor-key guitar in a more upbeat song. So yeah, I enjoyed some of the instrumental melodies from Y2K here, which makes this insanely catchy & could easily become a meme, but bbno$ sadly ruins it with his off-key delivery & also coming across as really annoying! Overall, I’m still mostly indifferent to be honest. Strong 5/10!

On the albums chart, ‘Norman Rockwell’ becomes Lana Del Rey’s fourth #1! Just one week after Taylor Swift did it, she becomes only the second female artist to have four UK #1 albums this decade. ‘Norman Rockwell’ had a 12,000 combined sales lead over the #2 this week.

Two-thirds of ‘Norman Rockwell’s units came from physical sales, easily making it the most purchased album of the week. ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ came out on top in streaming.

Speaking of which, the rest of the Top 5 is: ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ by Ed Sheeran (stationary at #2), ‘Lover’ by Taylor Swift (1-3), ‘Fear Inoculum’ by TOOL (debuts at #4) & ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ by Lewis Capaldi (3-5).

Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Shameless’ & ‘Liar’ by Camila Cabello, ‘Kill My Mind’ by Louis Tomlinson. ‘Got It All’ by Professor Green ft Alice Chater, ‘Sounds Of The Skeng’ by Stormzy, ‘Buss Down’ by Aitch ft ZieZie, 'XTC' by Solardo & Eli Brown, 'Slide Away' by Miley Cyrus, a track or two from Post Malone (probably ‘Saint-Tropez’ if anything) & maybe even more.

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

Hi piran!
Sorry for the late reply, I'm just going to go right into my opinion of this week's chart. While I'm still thrilled 'take me back to London' went to number 1, I'm still annoyed it's blocking off 'higher love' but hopefully that can go to the top spot soon. I was really hoping Lalala would avoid the top 40 but I guess I was wrong. I will actual hate if it goes in the top 10. I've warmed up to 'ransom' and 'taste (make it shake)' a lot more. I'm actually surprised I didn't like post malones 'circles' but I hope it grows on me. The only good news for me about music is that next week, halsey is releasing a new song called 'graveyard' and she features on a single on post malones new album (die for me). I don't care if graveyard charts, I'm thrilled that she's releasing new music. I'm also surprised I like the new songs 'both' and 'be honest'. Lover (the single) hasn't been doing well for me unfortunatly and I'm not a big fan of the single but I do like some of the other tracks on the album
Have a good weekend!

Hey Piran! I like seeing 'Take Me Back to London' at #1 for a 2nd week, though I never would've guessed it'd have such a massive lead! I especially didn't expect it to manage to increase its lead by almost 4k sales this week either, but at this point I can definitely see it staying at #1 until it gets pushed onto ACR. I don't actually know when that would be, since it's on its currently been on the chart for 6 weeks but has been out for 8, so I don't know which is counted for ACR. Either way, its streams decreased slightly less than the market average this week, so the earliest it could go on ACR is in 4 week's time anyway.

It was definitely a good week for Aitch this week, with him being at #1, #3 and #10 when the remixes of 'Take Me Back to London' are taken into account, so it'll be very interesting to see how well 'AitcH20' does on the charts next week. Obviously it doesn't really stand a chance of beating 'Hollywood's Bleeding', but honestly I wouldn't even be surprised if he has 3 tracks from it in the Top 40, most likely 'Taste (Make It Shake)', 'Buss Down' and 'Weekday' or 'Already'.

One thing I absolutely love seeing this week is 'Location' managing a 26th consecutive week in the Top 40! Staying in the Top 40 for half an entire year consecutively is of course massively impressive under any circumstance, but making it way more impressive is the fact that it's been on ACR for 8 of those weeks, and it's highly likely that it would have spent all 26 of those weeks inside the Top 20 if not for that! It's only the 5th song to manage it since ACR was introduced from what I can find, following 'Shape of You' with 39 consecutive weeks, 'Havana' with 33, 'Despacito (Remix)' with 30 and 'Shotgun' with 27. Of course 'Location' is the odd-one-out in that group as all 4 of the others were very strong #1 singles while 'Location' never even reached the Top 5, making it all the more impressive that it's lasted so long in the charts!

As for the debuts this week, my favourite was easily 'Circles', and I'm really disappointed that it couldn't quite reach the Top 10! If it had Post would've had 4 Top 10s from 'Hollywood's Bleeding' before it even released, and I can't remember the last time that happened. 'No.6 Collaborations Project', 'thank u, next' and '÷' all had 3 as well, but I can't remember any that managed 4. Anyway, strong 9/10 for 'Circles' from me! 'Ride It' was fine for me, though nothing special, so probably a light 7/10, while 'Lalala' was quite disappointing, so a solid 5/10 here.

Next week it definitely looks like 'Take Me Back to London' will be a strong #1 again, and I can see 'Circles' climbing into the Top 5 after the album release! It's currently #2 on Spotify and #3 on Apple Music, so I think Post should at least get that 4th Top 10 on the week of the album's release instead. 'Goodbyes' will probably rebound as well, possibly into the Top 10, and it'll probably be between 'Hollywood's Bleeding', 'Saint-Tropez' and 'Take What You Want' for a Top 20 debut. 'Sunflower' may even beat them all and re-enter! Other than Posty and Aitch, I can see 'Liar' making a lower down Top 40 debut, but sadly I don't think 'Shameless' will make it. I really hope both of them can climb in the coming weeks, though! 'Sounds of the Skeng' will probably make it, and 'Got It All' might also manage it, but I don't think it has the streaming.

Hey Tony! :)

That's fine! I've not been on here that much this week anyway.

I think almost everyone here wants 'Higher Love' to be a future #1, although 'Take Me Back To London' seems to be a getting a mostly mixed response for now. Sadly, I don't the former of these will get there soon, since it's looking more likely to land on ACR first. Apparently, Ed & Stormzy increased their lead by 4k combined chart sales this week.

Haha, yeah, as I said in my review, 'Lalala' is one of those songs that you can usually tell whether it'll amuse you or annoy you in the first listen. Thankfully, in your case, it might linger around the lower Top 40 for a few weeks, although Top 10 doesn't look too probable at the moment.

I'm sure 'Circles' will grow on you, since I preferred it after a few more listens too! 'Ransom' did grow on me a bit, but 'Taste [Make It Shake]' hasn't unfortunately.

'Both' & 'Be Honest' are also songs that I'm liking a lot more now, although I don't see either ever entering my personal charts unfortunately.

It's a shame that you weren't on board with 'Lover' the single, but it's cool that you're slightly warmer on some other of the album tracks. Which would be your favourites?

Thanks! I hope you have a nice weekend too.

Hey Gameskiller! :)

Yeah, it was a surprise to me too seeing 'Take Me Back To London' actually extend its lead this week! I think it was more to 'Higher Love' probably peaking than 'Take Me Back To London' losing in overall performance.

As far as I'm aware, 'Take Me Back To London' has only been on the chart for six weeks & been released for eight, but the two weeks that it was removed due to the "three songs" rule don't count towards its ACR total. Someone else asked me this though, so I'm not entirely certain.

I remember that Calvin Harris already had six Top 10s from '18 Months' before the album was released. Those being; 'Bounce' (#2), 'Feel So Close' (#2), 'We Found Love' (#1), 'Let's Go' (#2), 'We'll Be Coming Back' (#2) & 'Sweet Nothing' (#1). After the album came out; 'I Need Your Love', 'Drinking From The Bottle' & 'Thinking About You' joined them as Top 10 hits from that album, bringing the Top 10 count for '18 Months' to nine tracks! It was only until '÷' was released that this record was held & even then, Ed's historic album bomb could only tie it.

Regarding your question for me on Crown Note, I think the only other time at least half our Top 10 was the same was in the week that 'Camila' was released, meaning we both had: 'Inside Out', 'In The Dark', 'Havana', 'Something's Gotta Give', 'Never Be The Same', 'Real Friends' & 'Consequences' (seven songs!) inside our respective Top 10s for that week! Maybe 'Romance' will allow that record to be broken?

avatar

Foxes

1

Yeah, I think 'Higher Love' has probably peaked now, unfortunately. It would've been really cool to see it reach #1, though I do still like seeing 'Take Me Back to London' at #1 pushing Ed closer to reaching his 40th week at #1 on the singles chart, something he just managed on the albums chart a few weeks ago with 'No.6 Collaborations Project's 4th week at the top.
That's really impressive for '18 Months', especially if it's the only album from this decade to manage more than 3 Top 10s before its release! It's even more impressive given that all 6 of them were Top 2 hits! I'm pretty sure '÷'s album bomb did manage to break that record though, since it had 10 Top 10s in total: the 9 from release week and 'How Would You Feel (Paean)', which was #11 that week.
I did think that 'Camila's release would've been the last time we'd shared over half our Top 10s, but I was wondering if there'd been another time since then. It looks like next week might be the only time it's ever happened with more than just the 1 artist then, even if Camila is still a big contributor with her 2 new tracks! It'd be really cool if 'Romance' could break that record; for both of my other favourite artists, Post Malone & Ed Sheeran, their 2nd albums have easily been my favourite, so that trend may continue with Camila and 'Romance'!
In the new update it looks like Post might manage 3 Top 10s which would be fantastic! Though, honestly, I think 'Circles' is the only really safe Top 10 for him, and the others might fall back throughout the week. I do like that 'Hollywood's Bleeding' is currently outperforming 'Saint-Tropez', since the former was among my favourite of the new tracks on the album while the latter was actually my 2nd least favourite track, just above 'Im Gonna Be'.

avatar

Piran

1

I don't believe there was any other times that we shared five songs in our Crown Note Top 10s in the same week, nor an artist this decade having more than three Top 10s from an album before it was released. I'll let you know if I spot anything though! :D

Oh yeah, I forgot that 'How Would You Feel [Paean]' was a Top 10 hit when it first came out, but dropped out of the Top 10 in the week that the album came out.

'Hollywood's Bleeding' outperforming 'Saint-Tropez' was actually a bit of a surprise to me, but I do prefer the former slightly more than the latter myself, so I don't really mind that at all! I'd have thought 'Goodbyes' would've been in the chart update with it being still inside the Top 15 today, but it looks like that's heading for ACR next week.

The only other week that I thought the 5+ songs being matched in our Crown Note Top 10s might've been was the week that 'No.6 Collaborations Project' came out, since Ed's the only other artist that could have such a big impact on both of our charts. That said, we only shared: 'South Of The Border', 'Take Me Back To London' & 'Way To Break My Heart' if I checked correctly. I'm still amazed that Ed got all 15 tracks inside the Top 15 for that week... neither even 'Lover' nor 'Sucker Punch' could do that for me!

avatar

Foxes

1

Yeah, I think 'Goodbyes' has to be going onto ACR next week, since it's currently the 2nd highest track from 'Hollywood's Bleeding' on both Spotify and Apple Music. In that case it definitely looks like 'Hollywood's Bleeding' and 'Saint-Tropez' will be the debuts, probably both in the Top 20, though personally I would really love if 'Take What You Want' could debut instead.
'No.6 Collaborations Project' did have an incredible debut on my charts, since not even 'Camila' or 'thank u, next' could match it! The former held the Top 10 and the latter had 12 in the Top 14, with the other 2 also being Ariana tracks. 'beerbongs & bentleys' didn't have the same kind of massive debut, but it has every other album beat when it comes to longevity. It had 3 songs in the Top 10 and 11 on the chart on its debut week, then the next week it had 6 Top 10s and 13 Top 40s, and it wasn't until its 4th week on the chart that it got all 17 of its tracks on the chart simultaneously. It even managed to chart 10 or more tracks simultaneously for 18 consecutive weeks after its release! That means Post held over 25% of my chart from 4th May when 'beerbongs & bentleys' first impacted the chart up until 7th September when 'Kamikaze' impacted the chart!
