The last time the charts were this farcical (Edageddon) the OCC changed the rules.
Perhaps they can do so again.
The easiest thing is to realise that streaming means they count the same people over and over again. This week suggests that people were listening to exactly the same things as last week. But the same people.
It is illogical if a song gets 1m streams in Week 1 and 1.5m in Week 2, the OCC counts all 1.5m streams in W2 for the chart. The overwhelming likelihood is that 1.5m includes the vast majority of the 1m streaming in W1.
So, in future...only count stream increases for the chart. And when the streams start to drop off, that's the equivalent of falling out of the chart.

I don't see why they should have to change rules to make the chart appear more active. If the same ten songs are the most popular in the UK for two weeks running, the official chart should reflect that. That's the point of the chart.

The charts though were about sales . If you bought a record in week 1 and listened to it a hundred times a week over the rest of the month, it only counted for week 1.
Now it counts for all 4 weeks. Effectively the same sale over and over again.

it is almost July and I have heard no news about Now 103. I should of least expected that they would reveal the front cover on their social media websites but they have not. I should hope that they are not going to stop the Now That's What I call Music albums because I grew up listening to them and I would be upset if they did stop them. If Now 103 is going to be released then I hope they reveal the tracklist in early July.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
- Thanks to a new acoustic version, ‘I Don’t Care’ by Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber is #1 on the singles chart for a fourth straight week! Over the past seven days, it was streamed 8.96 million times across the nation!
- ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X has now been at #2 for the past six weeks.
- ‘I Don’t Care’ also returns to #1 on the national airplay chart for a second non-consecutive week.
- ‘Old Town Road [Remix]’ by Lil Nas X ft Billy Ray Cyrus is #1 on the country’s YouTube chart for a seventh week in total, losing 25.5% of its weekly views to 5.22 million.
- As for the entire Top 10 having no movement whatsoever, I've asked about this to OCC authors or moderators (or any other chart-followers) on the other article as to when this last happened. I certainly haven't seen something like this before since I started following the charts!
- KATY PERRY - NEVER REALLY OVER (#13)
I’ve been missing the classic ‘Teenage Dream’ Katy for a while now, especially since a lot of her recent material has been extremely underwhelming (including most of last album outside of ‘Chained To The Rhythm’), but this… wow, it’s actually awesome! I was a little unsure how the production from Zedd would turn out given I didn’t really like ‘365’, but the structure of the ticking clocks, piano chorus, drumline & the synths on the song really works here! I think a lot of people can relate to the lyrics too; describing a wave of love that you can’t break out of & for the first time in a little while, Katy has been able to do this without sounding cheesy in the slightest. Her vocals sounds incredible too; I can totally believe she wanted to make a big impact with her return. My only wish now is that the rest of the album is like this, but this comeback is very strong! As for me, this has to be a solid 9/10!
- SKEPTA FT J HUS - WHAT DO YOU MEAN? (#14)
With J Hus growing on me with almost every song he releases & Skepta always being one of my favourite grime artists, I had good expectations for this & honestly, I’m not sure we completely got them. I can appreciate how the second verse is a complete freestyle, but then Skepta tries to imitate J Hus in an unusual way & it just doesn’t fit. I also don’t understand why the production is swamped with a heavy beat that drowns out a fair amount of the vocals by both artists. I mean, there are some intriguing ideas & I can see why a song like this would become a hit, but it just falls apart at times for me & that kind of killed my enjoyment of it sadly. Overall, eh, 5/10.
- MOSTACK FT STORMZY - SHINE GIRL (#15)
I initially wondered if it was purely Stormzy’s name attached to this as to why it became one of the top debuts of the week, but there actually seems to be a fair bit of hype for Mostack’s new album which came out yesterday, more than I otherwise would’ve thought. That said, I’m hearing this song for the first time & if the rest of the album is like this, I can definitely see why! Stormzy’s chilled vibe really took me by surprise here & I love the perfect balance between the tropical feel & the standard trap beat, especially the piano line that closes the song too. Mostack might have a bit of a choppy flow, but him & Stormzy at least have some chemistry between one another. It’s this kind of song that I’d expect to be opening British summers with & it also sounds like a grower, so I’m giving this a solid 7/10 for now.
- LEWIS CAPALDI - BRUISES (#16)
It’s about time this charted… it would’ve been here weeks ago if it wasn’t for the “three songs maximum per artist” rule, but anyway, I guess I’m glad it finally made it. Relative of other songs from Lewis’ earlier discography, this isn’t up there with those, but it’s still not bad at all! He’s gone for the same formula of a heartbreaking ballad, with Lewis’ raw vocals roaring over a series of gentle piano chords, but I guess it lacks the emotional touch that made ‘Someone You Loved’ & ‘Hold Me While You Wait’ huge & it doesn’t massively stand out in context with the rest of the album. Still, I’m impressed that this has stuck around & despite playing it safe, I do like the song. Light 7/10 for this!
- MILEY CYRUS - MOTHER’S DAUGHTER (#31)
While her dad is partly responsible for the biggest hit in the world right now, there’s no doubt that Miley hasn’t gone unnoticed, getting a Top 40 debut with an EP track that got next to nothing in terms of promotion! I don’t see this becoming a hit, but I still think it’s fairly good. I’m glad that she’s going for a female empowerment anthem that actually sounds incredibly convincing & while the fact that she describes herself as nasty & evil is a bit off-putting, we kind of knew that from her 2013 antics, haha. I’ve seen some comparisons between this song & ‘Swish Swish’ by Katy Perry ft Nicki Minaj, but I feel like this song has more interesting production & sounds nowhere as annoying. Yeah, it’s got less appeal than her biggest singles, but I still like the hook & the verses are fine enough. As such, very light 7/10!
- SKEPTA - BULLET FROM A GUN (#32)
Second Skepta track here today & you know, I think while this might have charted a lot lower than ‘What Do You Mean?’, it’s probably better! I certainly like the clever use of wavy production here, which blends in a lot better with Skepta’s more energetic & tactical delivery than you would normally expect, even if it can feel a bit too distorted & bombastic at times. As for the content, if you look past the fact that he just wants to sleep with supermodels, he’s actually paying tribute to his dad & giving shout-outs to other UK urban acts that made him the artist he is today. There’s a reason why Skepta is one of the bigger names in the British hip-hop scene & I think song highlights that fairly well. Strong 6/10!
- On the albums chart, ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ by Lewis Capaldi is #1 for a third consecutive week, thanks to another 29,000 combined sales over the past seven days! The album has now sold over one million copies worldwide!
- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’ by Skepta (debuts at #2), ‘Further’ by Richard Hawley (debuts at #3), ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ by Billie Eilish (2-4) & ‘Ten’ by Susan Boyle (debuts at #5).
- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Shockwave’ by Liam Gallagher, ‘Dream Glow’ by BTS ft Charli XCX, ‘Heaven’ by Avicii, ‘Mad Love’ by Mabel, ‘Rescue Me’ by OneRepublic, ‘Stinking Rich’ by Mostack & J Hus ft Dave, ‘I’m The One’ by Mostack & Fredo, maybe even more.

Hey Piran! I definitely like seeing 'I Don't Care' get a 4th week at #1, and it turns out my predictions were wrong as it actually has a bigger lead over 'Old Town Road' than last week! I guess the acoustic version really did help. I don't know if it'll be able to manage another week, though, since 'Old Town Road' has around 100k more streams on the most recent Spotify chart, and around 92% of the sales on iTunes. It is pretty insane to see the whole Top 12 be completely static, but I do like that the 4 highest new entries all line up directly below that. I also really like those big climbs for 'Wish You Well' and 'Falling like the Stars'.
I also really like that 'Cross Me' manages to stay in the Top 10 for a 2nd week, since it just became my most streamed song of 2019 so far! The vast majority of those streams came from its 1st week (94.58%, to be exact), but its 2nd week streams were just enough to push it into 1st. https://urlzs.com/VLkg5.
As for the debuts, I actually thought this week was pretty strong in that regard! 'Never Really Over', despite being the highest debut, was actually my least favourite debut of the week, but even then I'd still give it a solid 6/10! 'What Do You Mean?' I liked a lot more than you as I'd give it a light 8/10, while 'Shine Girl' would probably get a solid 7/10 from me. It's really good to see 'Bruises' finally break free of that "3 per artist" rule and chart, even if it was only a tiny bit ahead of 'Grace' this week (which would've charted at #17). It was actually one of my favourites from 'Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent', as I'd only put it behind the other 3 singles and I'd give it a strong 7/10 - light 8/10. 'Mother's Daughter' would only be a strong 6/10 from me, but 'Bullet From A Gun' was my favourite debut of the week, and I'm really glad it finally made the Top 40! It's my favourite track from 'Ignorance is Bliss' as a whole, and I'd give it a strong 8/10. That said, if 'Find U Again' had debuted just 1 place higher it would've easily been my favourite debut of the week with a solid 9/10!
Next week it looks like 'No Guidance' will be one of, if not the highest debut, despite having a late start, because... Drake. 'Stinking Rich' also looks like it'll be a high debut, but that 9-22 fall on Spotify on its 2nd day is pretty damaging. At least it only fell 7-11 on Apple Music. 'Shine Girl' will most likely climb, and MoStack could have a 3rd entry as well with 'I'm The One'. 'Mad Love' should be able to debut as well, though sadly it doesn't look like 'TIM' will have a particularly big impact. It may even lose to 'Stacko' on the albums chart, and definitely will in terms of streams. 'Heaven' is the only song that even looks likely to reach the Top 40 from it.

Yeah, to add to what you said regarding next week's race for #1, 'Old Town Road' is getting twice as many views over 'I Don't Care' on YouTube, but what could potentially save the latter & give it a fifth week at #1 is the fact that it's still dominant on Apple Music. I do think it'll be a much closer this week though! If 'Old Town Road' does go back to #1 next week, it would remind me a lot of what 'Shotgun' was able to do last summer.
I'm glad that you thought all of the debuts were at least decent this week, but yeah, it's a shame that 'Find U Again' narrowly missed the Top 40, but I still think it could get there before the end of the month.
I think the only thing we'll see from 'TIM' in terms of singles is the a small boost for 'SOS' & maybe a low Top 40 debut for 'Heaven'. 'Tough Love' could re-enter lower down in the Top 100, but that would be Avicii's three songs anyway.
What position are you predicting for his album on Friday then? I'm hoping Top 5 is still not out of the question.

The website is called last.fm if you were wondering, imgur is just what I used to upload the screenshot. I know it can directly link to Spotify, and I think there's browser extensions and a mobile app for other music services as well, though I don't know much about them since I've only ever used it with Spotify.

If 'Old Town Road' can go back to #1, I'm not actually sure when the last time was where there was such a large gap between weeks at #1 in the same chart run, since 'Shotgun' only had a 5-week gap. It would be very interesting to see, though.
Yeah, I really hope that 'Find U Again' will either be able to do the same as 'Late Night Feelings' and break into the Top 40 after a few weeks hovering outside it, or just be able to break in once the album releases.
As for 'TIM', it seems to be doing pretty well on digital sales, and should be doing well on physical sales as well, so I'm hoping for a Top 5 entry as well. I just wish it was getting much better streams to push it a bit further up the albums chart, and to allow it to make a bigger impact on the singles chart as well.

It sounds so much easier than what I currently do; because I stream almost all music on YouTube (if not, it's either MusicPleer or the radio), I update a tally every day of how many times I've listened to a song, then I put those figures in an Excel sheet to give me my cumulative totals. Your way of doing it is so much easier though!
What's interesting is while it took about two weeks for 'Cross Me' being on the charts to become your most streamed song of 2019, 'SOS' took even less time with 10 days for me. It's interesting how the songs we've listened to most this year so far aren't even that old, haha! :D

Yeah, last.fm is an invaluable service to me, since not only can I check what tracks I've listened to the most, I can check albums, artists, set a time range to see what I've listened to in that time range. I can also check my listening reports for each week, showing my most streamed tracks, albums & artists from that week, as well as my top tags for that week and I can even see which hour of day I listened the most across the week. There's also the listening reports for years that do much the same thing big for an entire year instead.
I looked into it a little bit and found https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/youtube-scrobbling, and it seems like you can track from YouTube using a Chrome extension and an Android app called Scroball, but if you have an iOS phone there doesn't seem to be a way to track YouTube from it at the moment other than manually adding the tracks you listen to using http://universalscrobbler.com/manual.php.
EDIT: If you have iOS you might be able to use the VOX app and then listen to YouTube through that since you can link last.fm to VOX, but I'm not 100% sure if that'd actually work.

I just had a look & outside of 'Three Lions' going back to #1 for the first time in 20+ years last summer, I can't find anything else that's been off the top spot for a larger gap than six weeks to return to #1 this century.

Spotify usually tells you what genres, artists, albums, songs, groups, etc. you've been listening to at the end of each year though, doesn't it?
Last.fm certainly looks a lot more interesting & up-to-date though! :)
So with your personal charts on Crown Note, do you update them throughout the week then post the final chart on the Friday, or do you decide the Top 40 on the day the chart gets posted? I do the latter at the moment, but I'm considering changing to the former method.

Spotify does, but I find last.fm's to be more accurate and comprehensive, and it tends to have more information. Plus, with last.fm I can check at any time for any time range, not just at the end of a year for that year.
For my CrownNote charts, I tend to create a Spotify playlist for my Top 40 at the start of each week, and then add, remove and move songs throughout the week as I start to like some songs more and some songs less. Then I just put the finalised Spotify playlist into a CrownNote chart at the end of each week, and start again for the next week. It's worked pretty well for me!

That seems a really accurate method to be fair! So does that mean 100% of your chart is influenced by Spotify?
One thing I've noticed in my personal charts is that, while I generally go to YouTube or the radio for new music, the discussion forum on Billboard have a particularly keen interest for foreign language songs & you might've noticed that these are becoming more of a thing on my personal charts lately. Next week, we could have as many as seven different languages in my Top 40, haha! :D

Yeah, since I rarely listen to music other than on Spotify, it makes sense for it to be by far the biggest influencer of my charts! I have noticed foreign language songs becoming more common on your charts, actually. Off the top of my head I can only think of 'Despacito (Remix)' and 'MIA' for foreign language songs on my charts, though I do think there's been at least a few more. But yeah, my chart is around 95%+ English songs, since British hip-hop is probably my favourite genre as a whole at the moment, and I don't really listen to many foreign language songs.

iTunes actually used to influence my personal charts a lot before Crown Note! Back when I started my personal charts, if I purchased a song on my phone, then it would get a massive boost in points for me & if I played that song on my mobile multiple times in a day, it would probably a contender for #1. Obviously that methodology had to change, since I think the last time I downloaded a song was probably 'Look What You Made Me Do', so I went from buying like seven songs in 2017 to absolutely none in 2018, haha.
Yeah, Spanish & maybe Korean are the only foreign languages that will get any real commercial success in the UK charts. Of course, no matter how much impact foreign language songs have for me, EDM & pop will always remain my favourite genres! :D

I think the last time that I actually bought a song was when I bought 'Camila' at the start of 2018, and before that I think it was 'Havana', and before that '÷', and even before that 'Shape of You' and 'Castle on the Hill'. But, since I started using Spotify in May 2017, 'Havana' and 'Camila' were more to support the artist, and because when I bought 'Camila' I could play it at exactly midnight, while I don't think it was available on Spotify until a couple hours later. But I haven't bought anything in the past 17 months or so. It's definitely cheaper to use Spotify and pay the £5/month, since I'm usually adding 10 or more songs to my playlist every week! I'd probably be paying 10x that if I bought every song that I add to my playlist.

Yeah, I don't even buy that many physical albums anymore either. I think it's better to not pay & wait a few days until all the tracks are available on streaming services. There are some exceptions though, such as Taylor & Camila, where I will probably always purchase physical copies of their albums based on name recognition alone, same for Ed too.
Thankfully, with 'TIM', every track from the album had been put on Spotify, YouTube, etc. by the time I got up in the morning. Being a big dance fan, there's a YouTube channel called Proximity that publishes highly anticipated dance tracks (including 'SOS' for example) at the exact minute they're officially released.

The same rules that were implemented in 2017;
1) Artists could only make a maximum of three appearances on the chart in the same week as a lead credit.
2) If a song has charted for 10 or more weeks & has declined in streams in the previous three consecutive weeks, its streaming to sales ratio is changed to 150:1 to 300:1.

I don't remember when the whole Top 10 was so static since I started following the charts either. We've had many weeks in the past with no new Top 10 entries, especially during Xmastime, but what we saw last Friday is the exact copy of the Top 10 from the previous week. Fortunately we have 6 new entries in the Top 40 and 13 new entries in the Top 100 !!!

It appears that last week's chart was the first static Top 10 since 1943 & it wasn't even until 1952 until the Official Charts as we know them in its current format.
We got even more new arrivals to the Top 40 this week with eight of them, but still no change whatsoever in the Top 5!

Might be the first time the top 10 have all been non-movers, not counting unpublished weeks. Having the same 10 records in the top 10 (in a different order) has happened several times before, usually around New Year.
